Prior to Installation
- A) Installation: Install parts using provided hardware and written instructions. Failure to do so, or using alternative methods, hardware, or materials (e.g., Loctite, Superglue), will invalidate the warranty. Install parts on cleaned vehicle surfaces.
- B) Fit: Verify the fit of parts before installation. Minor filing, sanding, or cutting may be necessary for a proper fit.
- C) Painting: (Optional) If painting, clean the outer surface with a good grade degreaser (do not use lacquer thinner or enamel reducer). Wipe with a tack rag before painting. Use plastic adhesion promoter for TPO plastic as recommended by your paint system manufacturer. Apply high-quality enamel or polyurethane automotive paint.
- D) Metal Protection: Treat all exposed fasteners and bare metal with rust-resistant paint before installation.
- E) Decals: Parts may cover existing vehicle decals. Remove decals prior to installation if desired.
- F) Care & Cleaning: Parts are durable. Use any standard vehicle detergent for cleaning. Avoid harsh abrasive detergents.

Section 1: Tailgate Protector Installation
Step 1: Clean Surface
Open the tailgate. Use the supplied alcohol wipe to clean the tailgate area where the protector's tape will be applied. Alternatively, clean the area with alcohol or a suitable degreaser.
Step 2: Prepare Tape Leaders
Peel back 2-3 inches of the red tape leader from each piece of adhesive tape on the protector. Fold these leaders forward onto the front surface of the part. Using masking tape can help secure the leaders in place.
Step 3: Position the Protector
Center the tailgate protector on the tailgate rim. Aim for approximately 1/8 inch of clearance at both the top and bottom ends. Ensure all red tape leaders are folded outward and remain accessible for removal.
Step 4: Remove First Tape Leader
Start with the upper tape leader. Carefully pull the red tape leader downwards at a 45-degree angle, away from the part. This releases the adhesive tape from the protector. Press the part firmly against the vehicle as you pull to maintain its position.
Step 5: Secure Initial Placement
After pulling a few inches of the tape leader, press the part firmly against the adhesive area. This helps maintain the protector's position before proceeding with the rest of the installation.
Step 6: Remove Second Tape Leader
Hold the corner of the part securely. Pull the second tape leader downwards at a 45-degree angle, away from the part, to release the remaining adhesive tape.
Step 7: Final Adhesion
Press the part firmly against the vehicle at all tape contact areas for a full 30 seconds to ensure maximum adhesion. The adhesive typically cures completely after 24 hours at 65 degrees Fahrenheit (18 degrees Celsius). Note that curing may take longer in colder ambient temperatures.
Step 8: Installation Complete
The Tailgate Protector installation is now complete.
