Children are constantly on the move, learning new things, experimenting, and playing. They need a safe place to rest and sleep while processing the day's impressions. When children outgrow their cribs, adult beds can seem too large. A children's bed is the perfect size, offering a snug, cozy, and safe environment.
Let your needs, space, and taste help you choose
Consider your child's sleeping habits: a smaller bed with a guardrail is suitable for restless sleepers. For growing children, an extendable bed is ideal. If space is limited, a loft bed provides room for a sofa or desk underneath. Day-beds offer an extra bed or storage, while bunk beds can accommodate three people with an additional bed. IKEA offers beds for all needs, spaces, and tastes.

Mattresses
IKEA children's mattresses are well-ventilated to prevent moisture and mould build-up, and most outer covers are washable. They offer various comfort choices, needing to be firm enough for growing bodies yet soft on top. All mattresses are made from safe, durable, and chemical-free materials, promoting a healthy sleep environment.
How to choose a mattress
- Foam or spring? Decide between foam or spring mattresses to narrow down your selection.
- Your budget Mattresses are available to fit every budget, designed with your child's safety and healthy sleep as the top priority.
- Identify individual needs Consider the bed size (junior or extendable) and how many years the mattress will be used. Extendable beds may require a three-piece mattress. Thicker, more durable mattresses offer better support for growing children.
- Choose your mattress Detailed facts for all children's mattresses are available on subsequent pages. All mattresses promote good airflow through careful material and construction choices.

How are our children's beds tested?
Children's beds undergo various tests to ensure safety. This includes inspection for protruding parts, loose parts, fittings, and sharp edges. Gaps and openings are measured. The bed is tested for strength, stability, and durability using impact and pressure tests. For example, bed bases are tested with a 10 kg weight dropped 1,000 times from five different positions (European market test). Similar tests are conducted globally, adapted to specific country requirements.

Suitable for children ages 3+
Extendable beds adjust in length as the child grows, offering a good environmental choice by providing multiple sizes in one. They are ideal for children graduating from cribs.

PLUTTEN foam mattress
Dimensions: 97×190 cm (38¼×74¾"). Simple and safe, 7 cm (2¾") thick foam with a soft, smooth surface on both sides. Cover can be easily wiped off.

Loft and bunk beds
Suitable for children ages 6+
Bunk beds offer sleeping for two, while loft beds provide sleeping for one with space underneath for storage, play, or study. Both are twin size beds. Children over age 6 should sleep in the top bunk, which features a solid guardrail. Ensure the mattress thickness is appropriate for the guardrail to remain protective.
