Installation

This Use & Care Guide provides general operating instructions. Use the appliance only as instructed. Follow these important first steps before starting the unit.

Cleaning your Refrigerator

Remove tape and glue residue from surfaces before turning the refrigerator on. Use a small amount of liquid dish soap with your fingers, rinse with warm water, and dry with a soft cloth. Do not use sharp instruments, rubbing alcohol, flammable fluids, or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the surface.

After removing all packaging materials, clean the inside of your refrigerator before use. Refer to the CARE AND CLEANING section.

Moving your Refrigerator

Your refrigerator is heavy. When moving it for cleaning or service, raise the anti-tip bracket. Cover the floor with cardboard or hardboard to avoid damage. Always pull the refrigerator straight out; do not wiggle or "walk" it, as this could damage the floor.

Location

  • Choose a place near a grounded electrical outlet. Do NOT use an extension cord or adapter plug.
  • If possible, place the refrigerator out of direct sunlight and away from the range, dishwasher, or other heat sources.
  • The refrigerator must be installed on a floor that is level and strong enough to support a fully loaded refrigerator.
  • Consider water supply availability for models equipped with an automatic ice maker. If not connecting water, turn the ice maker off.

Intended Use and Environment

⚠️ WARNING: This appliance is intended for use in residential household and similar interior applications such as Kitchen/Kitchenette, Pantry Room, Basement, Enclosed Garage, or other interior residential type environments.

Temperature Requirements

❗ CAUTION: Do not install where the temperature will drop below 55°F (12.8°C) or rise above 110°F (43°C), as the compressor may not maintain proper temperatures.

Water Supply Connection

Ice Maker Models Only

ℹ️ NOTE: Automatic ice makers are optional accessories. Visit www.frigidaire.com for information about Ice Maker Kit IMKTTM0018.

⚠️ WARNING: To avoid electric shock, disconnect the refrigerator from electrical power before connecting a water supply line.

❗ CAUTION: To Avoid Property Damage:

  • Use stainless steel braided tubing for the water supply line. Do not use 1/4 in. plastic tubing, as it increases the potential for water leaks.
  • DO NOT install water supply tubing in areas where temperatures fall below freezing.
  • Chemicals from a malfunctioning softener can damage the ice maker. If connected to soft water, ensure the softener is maintained and working properly.

ℹ️ IMPORTANT: Ensure your water supply line connections comply with all local plumbing codes.

Before Installing The Water Supply Line, You Will Need:

  • Basic Tools: adjustable wrench, flat-blade screwdriver, and Phillips screwdriver.
  • Access to a household cold water line with water pressure between 30 and 100 psi.
  • A water supply line made of stainless steel tubing. Measure the distance from the ice maker inlet valve to your cold water pipe to determine the required length, allowing for refrigerator movement.
  • A shutoff valve to connect the water supply line to your household water system. DO NOT use a self-piercing type shutoff valve.
  • Do not reuse compression fitting or use thread seal tape.

ℹ️ NOTE: Check with your local building authority for recommendations on water lines. Frigidaire recommends its Smart Choice water line kits for homes with or without existing valves.

Water Supply Connection (Continued)

To Connect the Water Supply Line To the Ice Maker Inlet Valve

  1. Disconnect the refrigerator from the electrical power source.
  2. Place the end of the water supply line into a sink or bucket. Turn ON the water supply and flush the line until the water is clear. Turn OFF the water supply at the shutoff valve.
  3. Remove the plastic cap from the water valve inlet and discard it.
  4. If using copper tubing, slide the brass compression nut and then the ferrule (sleeve) onto the water supply line. Push the line into the water valve inlet as far as it will go (1/4" / 6.4 mm). Slide the ferrule into the valve inlet and finger tighten the compression nut. Tighten another 1/2 turn with a wrench; DO NOT overtighten.

Illustrations show connection of plastic water tubing to ice maker fill tube, and copper/stainless steel water lines from household supply to the water valve. Details include compression nuts, ferrules, and required tubing length.

If using braided flexible stainless steel tubing, the nut is already assembled. Slide the nut onto the valve inlet and finger tighten. Tighten another 1/2 turn with a wrench; DO NOT overtighten.

  1. With the steel clamp and screw, secure the water supply line (copper tubing only) to the rear panel of the refrigerator as shown.
  2. Coil the excess water supply line (copper tubing only), about 2 1/2 turns, behind the refrigerator, arranging coils so they do not vibrate or wear against any surface.
  3. To turn the ice maker on, press the ice maker's On/Off power switch so the LED is illuminated.
  4. Turn ON the water supply at the shutoff valve and tighten any connections that leak.
  5. Reconnect the refrigerator to the electrical power source.

Ice Maker

ℹ️ NOTE: Automatic ice makers are optional accessories. Visit www.frigidaire.com for information about Ice Maker Kit IMKTTM0018.

If your refrigerator has an automatic ice maker, it will produce minimal ice during the first 24 hours. Air in new plumbing lines may cause the ice maker to cycle 2 or 3 times before making a full tray. With no usage, it takes approximately 1 to 2 days to fill the ice container. Discard ice made during the first 24 hours, as new plumbing connections may cause discoloration or odd flavor.

Ice Production: What to Expect

The ice maker will produce 2 to 2.5 pounds of ice every 24 hours, depending on usage conditions. Ice is produced at a rate of 10 cubes every 100 to 160 minutes.

ℹ️ NOTE: Set the freezer to a colder setting to increase ice maker output. Allow 24 hours for the temperature to stabilize.

❗ CAUTION: Do Not place the ice container in your dishwasher.

ℹ️ IMPORTANT: The ice maker is shipped in the On position. To ensure proper function, hook up the water supply immediately or turn the ice maker Off. If the ice maker is on and the water supply is not connected, the water valve will make a loud chattering noise.

Turning your Ice Maker On

After connecting the plumbing, open the water supply valve. Place the ice container under the ice maker, pushing it as far back as possible. Press the ice maker's On/Off button.

Turning your Ice Maker Off

To stop the ice maker, press the ice maker's On/Off button. The ice maker regulates production, stopping when full and starting again when ice is low.

Door Bin

Door bins accommodate gallon-sized plastic drink containers and economy-sized jars and containers.

To remove the door bin:

  1. Lift up on the bin.
  2. Pull it straight out.

To install the door bin:

  1. Push the bin back and down into the locking tabs.
  2. The bin sides will lock into the tabs.

Illustrations show how to remove/install a door bin, adjust/replace a shelf using clips (A), and a glass shelf.

Shelf Adjustment

Shelves are easy to adjust to suit individual needs. Remove all food before adjusting. To adjust shelves, slide the shelf forward and lift it upward. To replace shelves, insert the rear of the shelf into any pair of shelf rails and carefully push it back into position, ensuring the shelf clips (A) go into the notch in the liner.

❗ CAUTION: When reinstalling a shelf, ensure the shelf clip is attached to the liner and holds it in place.

❗ CAUTION: Do not clean glass shelves or covers with warm water when they are cold. Shelves may break if exposed to sudden temperature changes or impact. Tempered glass is designed to shatter into small pieces; this is normal. Glass shelves and covers are heavy; use both hands when removing them to avoid dropping.

❗ CAUTION: To avoid personal injury or property damage, handle tempered glass shelves carefully. Shelves may break suddenly if nicked, scratched, or exposed to sudden temperature change.

Storage Features (Continued)

Crisper Humidity Control (some models)

The crisper humidity control allows you to adjust humidity within the crisper to extend the life of fresh vegetables that keep best in high humidity.

ℹ️ NOTE: Leafy vegetables keep best on High Humidity or in a drawer without a control. Store non-leafy vegetables and fruits at the low humidity setting.

Care and Cleaning

Protecting your investment

Keeping your refrigerator clean maintains appearance and prevents odor build-up. Wipe up spills immediately and clean compartments at least twice a year. Take the following precautions:

  • Never use CHLORIDE or cleaners with bleach to clean stainless steel.
  • Do not wash removable parts in a dishwasher.
  • Always unplug the electrical power cord from the wall outlet before cleaning.
  • Remove adhesive labels by hand. Do not use razor blades or other sharp instruments that can scratch the appliance surface.
  • Do not remove the serial plate.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, flammable fluids, cleaning waxes, concentrated detergents, bleaches, or cleansers containing petroleum products on plastic parts, interior doors, gaskets, or cabinet liners. Do not use paper towels, metallic scouring pads, or strong alkaline solutions.

ℹ️ NOTE: Setting temperature controls to OFF does not cut power to lights and other electrical components; unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

❗ CAUTION: Pull the refrigerator straight out to move it. Shifting it from side to side may damage flooring. Be careful not to move the refrigerator beyond the plumbing connections.

ℹ️ IMPORTANT: If storing or moving your refrigerator in freezing temperatures, be sure to completely drain the water supply system to prevent leaks when it is put back into service. Contact a service representative.
