⚠️ WARNING: For your safety, the information in this manual must be followed to minimize the risk of fire, explosion, electric shock, and to prevent property damage, personal injury, or death.
⚠️ WARNING: PROPER INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE
This dishwasher must be properly installed and located according to the Installation Instructions. If you did not receive an Installation Instructions sheet, you can receive one by visiting GEAppliances.com. In Canada, visit www.GEAppliances.ca.
- Connect the dishwasher to a grounded metal, permanent wiring system, or run an equipment-grounding conductor with circuit conductors and connect to the equipment-grounding terminal or lead of the appliance.
- Improper connection of the equipment-grounding conductor can result in a risk of electric shock. Consult a qualified electrician or service representative if unsure about grounding.
- Detailed grounding instructions are in the "PREPARE ELECTRICAL WIRING" section of the Installation Instructions.
- Dispose of discarded appliances and shipping/packing material properly.
- Do not attempt to repair or replace any part of your dishwasher unless specifically recommended in this manual. Refer all other servicing to a qualified technician.
- Use only cord kit WX09X70910 or hard-wire to building electrical. Failure to follow this instruction could result in fire and personal injury.
- To minimize electric shock risk, disconnect the appliance from the power supply before maintenance. Turning the dishwasher off does not disconnect it from the power supply.
⚠️ WARNING: WHEN USING YOUR DISHWASHER, FOLLOW BASIC PRECAUTIONS:
- Use this appliance only for its intended purpose as described in this Owner's Manual.
- Use only detergents or wetting agents recommended for dishwashers and keep them out of reach of children. Using non-dishwasher detergents will cause excessive suds.
- Locate sharp items so they do not damage the door seal.
- Load sharp knives with handles up to reduce the risk of cut-type injuries.
- Do not wash plastic items unless marked dishwasher safe. Check manufacturer recommendations for unmarked plastic items.
- Do not touch the heating element during or immediately after use.
- Do not operate your dishwasher unless all enclosure panels are properly in place.
- Do not tamper with controls.
- Do not abuse, sit on, or stand on the door or dish rack.
- To reduce the risk of injury, do not allow children to play with, on, or inside this appliance at any time.
- Do not store or use combustible materials (gasoline, flammable liquids/vapors) near this or any other appliance.
- Small parts (rack clips, filter retaining posts) can be a choke hazard to small children if removed. Keep out of reach of small children.
Proper Disposal of your Appliance
Dispose of or recycle your appliance according to Federal and Local Regulations. Contact your local authorities for environmentally safe disposal or recycling. Consider recycling options for your appliance packaging material.
ℹ️ NOTE: READ AND SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
⚠️ WARNING: WATER HEATER SAFETY
Under certain conditions, hydrogen gas may be produced in a water heater not used for two or more weeks. HYDROGEN GAS IS EXPLOSIVE. If hot water has not been used for two or more weeks, turn on all hot water faucets and let them run for several minutes before using any electrical appliance connected to the hot water system. This allows built-up hydrogen gas to escape. Do not smoke, use an open flame, or use the appliance during this process.
⚠️ WARNING: RISK OF CHILD ENTRAPMENT
PROPER DISPOSAL OF THE DISHWASHER
Junked or abandoned dishwashers are dangerous. If disposing of your dishwasher, follow these instructions to help prevent accidents:
- Do not allow children to play with, on, or inside this or any discarded appliance.
- Take off the door of the washing compartment.
⚠️ CAUTION: TO PREVENT MINOR INJURY AND PROPERTY DAMAGE
- During or after a wash cycle, contents may be hot. Use care before handling.
- Close supervision is necessary if this appliance is used by or near children. Do not allow children to play around the dishwasher when closing the door, closing the middle rack, or vertically adjusting the middle rack, as small fingers can be pinched.
- Non-Dishware Items: Do not wash items like electronic air cleaner filters, furnace filters, or paint brushes in your dishwasher, as this may damage the dishwasher or cause discoloration.
- Load lightweight plastic items so they do not become dislodged and drop to the bottom of the dishwasher, potentially contacting the heating element and being damaged.
ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ensure the electrical connection and wire size are adequate and conform to the National Electric Code, ANSI/NFPA 70 (latest edition), and all local codes and ordinances.
This appliance must have:

Dispensers
Check the Water Temperature: Entering water should be at least 120°F (49°C) and not more than 150°F (66°C) for effective cleaning and to prevent dish damage. Check temperature with a candy or meat thermometer. Turn on the hot water faucet nearest the dishwasher, let water run continuously into a glass until temperature stops rising.
Use a Rinse Agent: High-quality rinse agents like Cascade® Platinum™ Power Dry™ Rinse Aid or Finish® Jet-Dry® Rinse Aid are designed for great drying and to protect against spots and film build-up.
Filling the Rinse Agent Dispenser: The dispenser holds 3.5 oz. (104 ml) and lasts approximately one month. Ensure the dishwasher door is fully open. Open the rinse agent dispenser door. Slowly add rinse agent until full, pausing as needed for it to settle. The indicator window does not light up. Clean up any spilled rinse agent with a damp cloth to prevent foam. Close the dispenser door.
Rinse Aid Setting: Adjust the amount of rinse agent released in the final wash. If water drops or hard water spots remain on dishes after drying, increase the setting. To adjust: Open dispenser door; turn adjuster clockwise to increase, counterclockwise to reduce.
Detergent Dispenser: Located in the center of the dishwasher door with two compartments: main wash and pre-wash (for very hard water or heavy soil loads; not used with tablets/packets). Do not block dispenser with large or tall dishware.
[Diagram: Illustration of the detergent dispenser with Pre-Wash and Main Wash compartments, and a Rinse Agent compartment.]
Detergent Amount: Amount depends on water hardness, temperature, and soil load. Contact your water company for hardness information (grains per gallon). You can purchase a hard water test strip (Part # WD01X10295) from GE Appliances.
Number of Grains/Gal. | Detergent Cup(s) to Fill |
---|---|
Less than 4 | Fill cup to 1/3 full |
4 to 8 | Fill cup to 2/3 full |
8 to 12 | Fill cup completely full |
Greater than 12 | Fill both main wash cup and pre-wash cup |
Use only detergents specifically labeled for automatic dishwashers. Never use liquid hand dish detergent. Sudsing and poor wash performance will result from improper detergents. Store detergents in a dry location in their original container.
Filling the Detergent Dispenser: Café recommends high-quality tablet or packet detergents (e.g., Cascade® Platinum™ ActionPacs™ or Finish® Quantum® Powerball®). For shorter cycles, if wash-out occurs, place tablet/packet in the pre-wash compartment or bottom of dishwasher. For cycles 60 minutes or longer, place tablet/packet in the main wash compartment.
Using too much detergent with soft/hot water may cause permanent etching on glassware. Using too little detergent causes poor wash performance.
DO NOT USE HAND DISH DETERGENT
ℹ️ NOTE: Using non-dishwasher detergent causes suds that can spill out. Store dishwasher detergent separately from other cleaners. Show users the correct detergent and storage location.
Appliance Communication
WiFi Connect (on some models): Your dishwasher is GE Appliances WiFi Connect capable, allowing remote monitoring and control via smartphone. Use the QR code or visit cafeappliances.com/connect to download the SmartHQ App or connect your appliance. In Canada, visit cafeappliances.ca.

Loading
For best dishwashing results, follow these loading guidelines. Features and appearance of racks and CustomFit Baskets may vary.
Middle Rack: Primarily for glasses, cups, and saucers. Tilt openings toward the center for best wash performance. Pots, pans, and plates can be placed here. Dishwasher-safe plastic items are secure. Odd-sized utensils, sauce pans, mixing bowls, and similarly shaped items should be placed face down. Ensure small plastic items are secure to prevent them from falling on the heater.
[Diagram: Illustration of the middle rack with glasses, cups, and plates loaded, showing tilt for optimal washing.]
IMPORTANT: Ensure items in the middle rack do not interfere with the CustomFit Top Rack. Ensure items do not protrude through the bottom of the rack or CustomFit Basket, as this blocks the middle spray arm rotation, potentially causing noise or poor wash performance.
Bottle Jets system (on some models): Ideal for baby bottles, tall sports bottles, or other tall items with narrow openings. Bottle Jets clips hold bottles so water jets clean hard-to-reach areas. Clips can be installed/removed by slipping the clip opening over the nozzle.
[Diagram: Close-up of a Bottle Jet clip holding a bottle nozzle.]
CAUTION: A loaded middle rack can be heavier than anticipated. Do not raise or lower the middle rack after it is loaded to prevent injury or damage.
Middle Rack Adjustment: Some models allow 2" adjustment up or down for larger items. Lower by pushing long flaps on each side. Raise by lifting the rack until it locks.
[Diagram: Illustration showing how to adjust the middle rack height by pushing flaps or lifting.]
Middle Rack Adjustment (alternative method): Fully extend the rack, lift the front so roller wheels clear end hooks on rails. Pull rack until remaining wheels clear end hook. Select desired height rollers and reinstall rack, aligning wheels on end hook and rails. Ensure wheels are above and below rails.
CustomFit Lid Caddy (on some models): Adds flexibility for items like lids, blender blades, or small bowls. Can be placed in the up or down position.
Fold down tines (on some models): Provide flexibility for extra-large and hard-to-fit items. Tine rows adjust to vertical or lay-down position.

10 Place Settings - Middle Rack
[Diagram: Illustration of the middle rack loaded with 10 place settings.]
Lower Rack: Best for plates, saucers, and cookware. Large items like broiler pans and baking racks go on the sides. Oversized glasses/mugs can fit for flexibility. Plates/saucers should be placed between tines securely. Do not load large items where they might block the detergent dispenser or wash jets.
[Diagram: Illustration of the lower rack loaded with plates and bowls.]
Lower Rack Fold Down Tines (on some models): Can be adjusted to different angles or placed flat for hard-to-fit or extra-large items.
[Diagram: Close-up of lower rack tines showing angled and flat positions.]
Reversible Tine Blocks (on some models): Allow greater loading flexibility by changing tine block direction.
WARNING: Clips for fold down tines are a choke hazard for small children if removed. Keep out of reach.
To change tine direction: Lower tines, pull away from bar clips, remove. Reverse direction, reattach by pushing back until they click. Switch the indexer to the opposite side (slide to "unlock", align, slide to "lock").
[Diagram: Illustration showing how to remove and reattach tine blocks and indexer.]
IMPORTANT: Ensure items do not protrude through the bottom of the rack or CustomFit Basket, blocking the lower spray arm. Ensure large plates, pots, or tall items do not hit the mid spray arm.

Care and Cleaning
Control Panel: Clean with a lightly dampened cloth, then dry thoroughly.
Exterior Door Panel: Identify panel type by the last two letters of your model number (D1/W2 for painted, S1/SS for stainless steel). Locate model number on the left-hand tub wall inside the door.
- Painted Door Panel (D1-Matte Black or W2-Matte White): Use a clean, soft, lightly dampened cloth, then dry thoroughly.
- Stainless Steel Door Panel (S1 or SS): For rust/tarnish, use cleaners with oxalic acid (e.g., Bar Keepers Friend Soft Cleanser™). Use a liquid cleanser free of grit and rub in the direction of brush lines with a damp soft sponge. Do not use appliance wax or polish on stainless steel.
- Glass Door Panel: Use window cleaner for cleaning, then let dry thoroughly.
- For other blemishes/marks on stainless steel, use Stainless Steel Magic or a similar product with a clean soft cloth. Do not use appliance wax, polish, bleach, or chlorine products. Order Stainless Steel Magic (WX10X29) via cafeappliances.com/parts. In Canada, visit cafeappliances.ca.
Dishwasher Interior: To clean and de-odorize, use citric acid, Cascade® Platinum™ Dishwasher Cleaner, or Finish® Dishwasher Cleaner. These break up mineral deposits and remove hard water film/stains. Order citric acid kit (WD35X151) via cafeappliances.com/parts. You can also purchase dishwasher cleaners at your local grocery store.
Stainless Steel Inner Door and Tub: Provides high reliability. Scratches or dents during normal use will not cause rust or corrosion and do not affect function or durability.
Filters: Inspect and clean filters periodically (every other month or more). Decreased wash performance or gritty dishes indicate filters need cleaning.
Ultra-Fine Filter Assembly: Remove bottom rack. Twist Ultra-Fine Filter assembly counterclockwise and lift to remove. Rinse with warm soapy water and use a sponge to remove particles. For 2-piece assemblies with an additional Filter Basket, twist Filter Basket counterclockwise to unlock, pull to remove, discard food particles, rinse, and clean. Replace Filter Basket into Ultra-Fine Filter assembly and twist clockwise to lock.
[Diagram: Illustrations of Ultra-Fine Filter Assembly and a 2-piece Ultra-Fine Filter Assembly with Filter Basket.]

[Diagram: Illustration showing Fine Filter and Ultra-Fine Filter locations relative to the spray arm.]
Protect Against Freezing: If dishwasher is left in an unheated place during winter, ask a service technician to: 1. Turn off power. 2. Turn off water supply and disconnect water inlet line. 3. Drain water from inlet line and valve. 4. Reconnect water inlet line.
Does Your Dishwasher Have an Air Gap? An air gap protects the dishwasher from water backing up if a drain clogs. It is not part of the dishwasher and not covered by warranty. Not all plumbing codes require air gaps.
Check the air gap any time your dishwasher isn't draining well.
Air Gap Cleaning: Turn off dishwasher, lift off cover. Remove plastic cap underneath and clean with a toothpick. Replace cap and cover.

Noise | Rattling dishes when the spray arm rotates. | Make sure dishes are properly loaded. See Loading section. |
Noise | Rattling silverware against door during wash. | Tall utensils may be placed in the middle rack to avoid bumping the inner door. |
A white film on glassware, dishware and the interior | Caused by low quality phosphate-free detergent. | To remove film, run a cycle with citric acid (order kit WD35X151) or use Cascade® Platinum™ Dishwasher Cleaner or Finish® Dishwasher Cleaner. Place citric acid in detergent cup, run cycle without detergent. Glassware, dishware, and dishwasher should come out film-free. Alternatively, use 1 cup of vinegar in the detergent cup after it opens. Repeat as needed. Use high-quality rinse agents and detergents to minimize repeat build-up. Do not interrupt cycle. |
Feel air on your legs when standing in front of the dishwasher in cycle | This is normal. | No action required. |
Fan keeps running after cycle is complete | The fan may run for an additional 90 minutes to maximize drying performance. | Depends on cycle and options selected. See Dry and Ultrafresh sections. |
