Introduction

Congratulations for your curved stairlifts type Alpha. Before starting to use the stairlift, please read the operating instructions carefully in order to assure a safe and reliable operation of your stairlift.

Please observe the following guidelines:

Ensure that only qualified stairlift installers install and service the stairlift. Under no circumstances is anyone other than a qualified installer allowed to install, adjust, or service any mechanical or electrical device on this equipment. Failure to follow this warning can result in safety system compromises or defeat; this can result in serious injury or death. Lehner Lifttechnik GmbH accepts no liability for property damage, warranty claims or personal injury, in this circumstance.

Passenger safety is the result of countless details in the equipment's design, manufacture, and installation. After installation, reliable operation and continual safe operation requires regular service and inspection at least once per year, or more frequently where usage, environment, or local jurisdiction requires. As the owner, you are responsible for ensuring that regular service and inspections occur in a timely manner.

Refer to this manual for specifications, operating instructions and maintenance of your stairlift. Upon completion of installation, the dealer must provide you with the information below and ensure it is recorded in this manual. In addition, either the dealer or you must keep any service and/or maintenance records in the Maintenance Record section of this manual.

The chairlift may only be used by a person who is familiar with its use. People not meeting this requirement (for example children) may use the seat under the supervision of a competent person who takes the responsibility. Keep the keys for the seat in a secure place and do not leave the key in the switch on the armrest or on the hall calls when not in use.

Take the following precautions:

Seat Function Overview

Controls

Standard controls:

Control of the seat can be performed using the joystick direction located in the armrest or using one of the hall call remotes, located at each stop position.

Armrest Controls:

Hall Call Remote:

The keyswitch on the handset must be on in order to use the drive joystick. Also the keyswitch in the hall call must be on in order to call or send the chairlift.

Hall Calls in Case of Automatic Swivel Seat

The radio controlled external call stations are used to rotate the swivel seat as well as to drive the chairlift up and down between the landing stations.

Using the Chairlift

Steps:

  1. When the unit is parked and folded up, make sure the keyswitch ? and main power switch ⚡ are on.
  2. Fold down the footrest, the folding seat, and the armrest.
  3. Sit on the chairlift and use the seatbelt.
  4. Use the joystick [joystick] on the armrest by pushing it in the driving direction – there is a 3-second security time delay between the activation of the joystick and the start of the lift.
  5. The lift will drive as long as the joystick switch is being pressed and stops after releasing it or at the landing stop station.
  6. Always watch in the driving direction ➡️ for any obstacles while driving!

Diagrams illustrate folding down components, sitting, and driving.

Sending and Calling the Chairlift from the Hall Calls

Diagram shows a hall call remote and the chairlift on stairs.

Battery cover: ? [Battery cover]

  1. Make sure that the seat is not in use by someone else.
  2. Call or send the seat by pressing the appropriate direction button (⬆️ or ⬇️) on the hall call remote.
  3. The lift will drive as long as the directional button is being pressed and stops after releasing the button or when arriving in the landing station.

Hall calls are usually supplied with two 1.5V AAA batteries. Battery life is approximately one year, so the battery can be replaced during regular service visits (minimum every 12 months).

Battery function can be checked at any time. Each hall call has a green LED ? which flashes after being activated. If the LED indicator is off, the battery must be replaced.

Seat Rotation with Manual Swivel Seat

At the upper landing, the seat can be rotated for easier entry and exit.

Diagrams show the seat rotating on the landing.

  1. Push the swivel lever [swivel-lever] (10) on the sides of the seat to its lowest possible position to unlock rotation.
  2. Turn the seat towards the upper side while still sitting on the seat.
  3. There are 5 different swivel positions: 0°, 20°, 45°, 70°, and 90°. Release the swivel lever when the chair is in your desired position and make sure the swivel mechanism safely engages again by pushing the lever back up into its original position. The seat should then be locked.
  4. Carefully get out of the seat.
  5. Turn the seat back to the drive position by pulling the lever upwards, ensuring it latches correctly.
  6. If required, raise the footrest, folding seat, and armrest to allow maximum clearance on the stairway or to send the lift to its lower stop position.
  7. Remove the keys ? from the armrest to prevent unintended use.

Seat Rotation with Automatic Swivel Seat

At the upper landing, the seat can be rotated for easier entry and exit.

Diagrams show the seat rotating on the landing.

  1. When driving upwards, keep pushing the joystick [joystick] in the upward drive direction. After a short delay, the seat will start to rotate. Keep pressing the joystick until the seat has fully rotated.
  2. Carefully get out of the seat.
  3. Turn the seat back to the drive position using the seat closing function ↪️ [Seat close] on the external hall call station.
  4. If required, raise the footrest, folding seat, and armrest to allow maximum clearance on the stairway or to send the lift to its lower stop position.

Driving Through an Intermediate Stop with Automatic Swivel Seat

When driving into an intermediate stop position with an automatic swivel seat, the seat will stop by itself. If you keep pressing the upwards button ⬆️, the seat will start to rotate. However, if you do not want to get out at this position, fully release the joystick [joystick] for 1 second as soon as the lift stops at the landing, and then press the joystick again into the desired driving direction. In this way, the chair will continue driving without the seat starting to rotate.

Folding Rail

In case the unit is equipped with a folding rail, please read the following points:

Driving Down from the Upper Landing:

Driving Up from the Lower Landing:

Emergency Release of Folding Rail

In case of a technical failure, the folding rail can be folded and unfolded manually. It is necessary to release the black pin by pressing the red tip ? [red-tip].

Attention: The actuator is not connected with the rail anymore and will fall down immediately!

After the pin is removed, the rail can be folded and unfolded by hand. To leave the rail in the folded position, it is necessary to bring the holding bolt ? [holding-bolt] into the correct position.

Diagrams show the manual release mechanism for the folding rail.

Fault Detection and Troubleshooting

The lift is equipped with a number of electrical and mechanical safety features. If the lift is not working, check the following points:

Next to the main power switch ⚡ are 3 LEDs. The left and the right LED indicate the directional obstruction sensors on the drive unit and trolleys. The middle LED indicates the safety circuit. If all 3 LEDs are turned off, the safety circuit is open.

Diagram shows the LEDs and power switch. The LEDs are labeled as follows:

The safety circuit consists of the following switches:

The directional obstruction sensors consist of the following switches (left/right):

Emergency Drive Wheel

In case the chairlift stops working on the driveway, the unit can be moved by turning the emergency handwheel ⚙️ [drive-handwheel]. The handwheel must be inserted into the front of the drive unit into a hole next to the main power switch ⚡. Before using the handwheel, turn off the main power switch.

The handwheel must be pushed into the hole with a certain force and can then be turned in the desired direction. The movement of the unit will be slow, and the lift should be moved to the nearest acceptable position.

Diagram shows the location of the main power switch and the drive handwheel.

Charging the Battery

The two 12V batteries that power the chairlift are charged at each landing station using the AC charger. The seat must therefore always park in one of the landing stations.

The seat is equipped with the following audio signals:

Maintenance

Regular maintenance of the entire stairlift is particularly important. The minimum inspection intervals (also with minimal frequency of usage) are:

Check regularly, at least once a week, the following points on your seat:

Cleaning:

Before cleaning, you must always turn off the main power switch ⚡. To clean the whole device, use a damp cloth and ordinary non-abrasive household cleaners. For cleaning the upholstery material of the seat and the backrest, also use a damp cloth to remove dirt.
