3 Services and Applications

3.1 Data Services

The B311-221 enables Internet access via mobile networks and Ethernet networks. Connecting via Wi-Fi or a network cable allows users to access high-speed Internet and establish a local area network (LAN).

3.1.1 Accessing the Internet through a Mobile Network (LTE/UMTS/GSM)

The B311-221 can connect to the Internet using mobile networks.

Textual Description of Figure 3-1: Accessing the Internet through a mobile network. This diagram illustrates a mobile network connection. It shows a device (likely a smartphone or tablet) connected wirelessly to a cellular tower icon, which is then connected to the Internet cloud. The HUAWEI B311-221 LTE CPE is depicted receiving the signal from the cellular tower and distributing it wirelessly to other devices like a laptop and a smartphone.

3.1.2 Accessing the Internet through an Ethernet Network

The B311-221's LAN/WAN port can connect to a wall-mounted Ethernet port via a network cable.

Textual Description of Figure 3-2: Accessing the Internet through an Ethernet network. This diagram shows the HUAWEI B311-221 LTE CPE connected via an Ethernet cable to a wall-mounted Ethernet port. The CPE then provides Wi-Fi connectivity to devices like a laptop and a smartphone.

3.2 Voice Services

The B311-221 features one telephone port for connecting telephones for voice calls.

Textual Description of Figure 3-3: Connecting telephones to the B311-221. This diagram shows the back panel of the HUAWEI B311-221 LTE CPE with its ports. A telephone is shown connected to the phone port (RJ11).

3.3 SMS

The B311-221 supports message writing, sending, receiving, and group sending (up to 50 contacts simultaneously).

3.4 Security Service

The B311-221 offers comprehensive security features, including a firewall and PIN protection, to safeguard connected computers against Internet threats.

3.4.1 Firewall Service

The B311-221 allows enabling or disabling a firewall to protect the device and network from unauthorized access and control Internet access.

3.4.2 MAC Filtering

The B311-221 supports Media Access Control (MAC) address configuration to restrict network access.

3.4.3 Wi-Fi Authentication

The gateway supports the following WLAN user authentication protocols: No encryption, WEP, WPA2-PSK (AES), and WPA/WPA2-PSK (TKIP/AES).

3.5 VPN Function

3.5.1 VPN Client

VPN tunneling establishes a logical network connection where packets are encapsulated and transmitted between a VPN client and server. The B311-221 supports L2TP and PPTP tunneling protocols.

Textual Description of Diagram: A network diagram illustrating VPN client functionality. It shows a PC connecting to a HUAWEI B311-221 LTE CPE (labeled as LTE CPE), which then connects to the Internet via an MME, SGW, and PGW. The connection path includes a VPN tunnel established using L2TP/PPTP protocols between the CPE and a VPN Server.

3.5.2 VPN Pass-Through

The B311-221 supports L2TP/PPTP/IPsec VPN pass-through, allowing LAN-side devices to create VPN tunnels to a VPN server.

Textual Description of Diagram: A network diagram illustrating VPN pass-through. It shows a PC (VPN Client) connecting to the HUAWEI B311-221 LTE CPE (LTE CPE). The CPE connects to the Internet through MME, SGW, PGW. The diagram highlights that the VPN tunnel (L2TP, PPTP, IPsec) is established between the LAN device (PC) and the VPN Server, passing through the CPE.

3.6 IP Pass-Through

The LTE CPE obtains the WAN IP address and passes it directly to a connected PC (Case 1) or Router (Case 2), allowing them to use the WAN IP address.

Textual Description of Diagram: Two cases illustrating IP Pass-Through. Case 1 shows a PC connected via RJ45 to the HUAWEI B311-221 LTE CPE, which is connected to the Internet. Case 2 shows a Router connected via RJ45 to the CPE, which is then connected to a PC. Both cases show the CPE passing the WAN IP address to the connected device.

3.7 IPv6 Only and IPv4v6 Dual Stack

3.7.1 IPv4v6 Dual Stack

The CPE provides dual stack functionality, supporting both IPv4 and IPv6.

Textual Description of Diagram: A network diagram illustrating IPv4v6 dual stack. It shows an IPv4-only device and an IPv6-only device connecting to the HUAWEI B311-221 LTE CPE (UE). The CPE connects to the Internet via MME, SGW, PGW, supporting both Internet IPv4 and Internet IPv6 connections.

3.7.2 IPv6 Only (CLAT)

The LTE CPE supports IPv6-only connectivity with the CLAT transition solution for IPv4 devices.

Textual Description of Diagram: A network diagram illustrating IPv6-only connectivity with CLAT. It shows an IPv4-only device and an IPv6-only device connecting to the HUAWEI B311-221 LTE CPE (UE). The CPE uses CLAT to provide IPv4 access for the IPv4-only device over an IPv6 network, connecting to Internet IPv4 and Internet IPv6.

Note: When IPv6-only (CLAT) is enabled, NAT-based functions like DMZ/Port Forwarding/Port Triggering are not available. When an IPv4 device accesses the Internet, performance may degrade due to packetization/unpacking, but IPv6 devices are unaffected.

3.8 Multi-APN

The B311-221 supports the establishment and maintenance of three APNs, isolating data, voice, and remote management services. It also supports an independent APN for CPE internal/VoIP/TR-069.

Textual Description of Diagram: A network diagram illustrating Multi-APN functionality. It shows an LTE CPE connected to an MME, SGW, and PGW, which then connects to the Internet IPv4. The diagram indicates separate APNs for Default APN, VoIP APN, and TR-069 APN, managed by the CPE.

3.9 HiLink

3.10 Customer management

3.10.1 WebUI

The B311-221 supports local configuration and management through its Web User Interface (WebUI), ensuring normal and stable performance.

3.10.2 HUAWEI SmartHome APP

Users can download the HUAWEI SmartHome APP (QR code available in Quick Start Guide and Web UI) to configure the router from their smartphone.

3.11 Operator maintenance

The B311-221 supports operator maintenance via TR-069, allowing remote management of CPE software updates and parameter configuration.

Textual Description of Diagram: A network diagram showing operator maintenance. It depicts an LTE CPE connected to an MME, SGW, and PGW, leading to an Internet IPv4 connection. An Auto-Configuration Server (ACS) is shown connected to the network, facilitating remote management of the CPE.
