Mounting & Wiring
RS485 OUTPUT READER:
Each A22K controller supports two readers per reader port (Entry/Exit). Readers should be connected in parallel.
Switch Settings: Set the position of the internal switch before powering the reader. If changing the switch position, unplug and replug the reader.
Interference Avoidance: Offset readers by a distance of at least 6 inches (20 cm) to prevent interference.
Wiring Diagram Description:
The wiring connects the K4 reader to an A22K ATRIUM controller using RS485 communication. The connections are made in parallel for multiple readers on a single port.
- A22K Controller Ports: 12V DC, GND, D0 / A+ (RS485 BUS), D1 / B- (RS485 BUS), BUZ 1, GRN 1, RED 1.
- K4 Reader Ports: 12V, GND, D0 / A+, D1 / B-, BUZ 2, GRN 2, RED 2.
- Connections:
- Reader 12V connects to Controller 12V.
- Reader GND connects to Controller GND.
- Reader D0 / A+ connects to Controller D0 / A+.
- Reader D1 / B- connects to Controller D1 / B-.
It is recommended to use twisted pair wiring for connections between the reader and the A22K ATRIUM controller. The maximum recommended distance for AWG 22 cable is up to 1220 meters (4000 feet).
Internal Switch Positions:
- Position the switch to the left next to the terminal block (manufacturer setting).
- Position the switch to the right.
(Note: The specific function of these switches, e.g., termination or mode, is not detailed but they are critical for proper RS485 communication.)
LED Status Indicators
When connected to an A22K ATRIUM controller, the K4 reader provides status feedback via its LED and buzzer:
LED State | Buzzer | Description |
---|---|---|
Steady blue | - | Standby (door secure) |
Green 5 sec. | Chirp beep | Access granted ✔️ |
5 rapid red blinks | Steady beep for 3 sec. | Access denied ❌ |
Flashing blue | - | Reader compromised (lost its encryption key) ? |
Blinks green every 3 sec. | - | Door unlock schedule |
Flashing red | Steady beep | Door forced alarm ? |
Flashing red rapidly | Beep every 2 sec. pre-alarm | Door open too long pre-alarm ⏳ |
Fast beep | - | Door open too long alarm ? |
Note: Door output timings (e.g., unlock time, door open too long pre-alarm/alarm) can be configured in the ATRIUM software's "Door Properties" window.
