Setup Information for Troubleshooting PreSonus FaderPort

General Troubleshooting Steps
If you are experiencing issues with the MIDI Remote script for the FaderPort, please follow these steps:
- Restart your system between each step.
- Perform all steps slowly and deliberately to ensure they are processed correctly by the system and the FaderPort.
Firmware and Software Setup
- Ensure you have installed the latest UNIVERSAL CONTROL Software from PreSonus (Version 4.2.0.96206) and updated the FaderPort firmware to v3.74.
- Reloading the current firmware can sometimes resolve issues, even if it is already up to date. Warning: Do not interrupt the firmware reloading process under any circumstances.
- After reloading the firmware, you can uninstall the UNIVERSAL CONTROL Software to optimize CPU performance.
- After uninstalling, set the FaderPort to its native Studio One mode. To do this:
- Switch off the FaderPort.
- Press and hold the Next button.
- While holding the Next button, power on the FaderPort.
- Wait for the FaderPort's lights to illuminate.
- Release the Next button.
- Press the Solo button.
- The PreSonus user manual details how to switch to MCU (Cubase) mode. Do not use this mode, as it is a factory mode and not compatible with the MIDI Remote script's operation. The FaderPort must be in native Studio One mode for communication with Cubase via the MIDI Remote script.
- Do not define the FaderPort as a MCU/HUI-Device in Cubase. Instead, copy the file
PreSonus_FaderPort.js
to the designated special folder.
Note on Script Path: The specified path below is for a typical Cubase installation. The actual path might differ based on your Cubase installation and system language. If the folder does not exist, you may need to create it, which might require adjusting your operating system's folder creation settings.
Script Installation Paths:
- Windows:
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\Documents\Steinberg\Cubase\MIDI Remote\Driver Scripts\Local\PreSonus\FaderPort\PreSonus_FaderPort.js
- Mac:
/Users/<USERNAME>/Documents/Steinberg/Cubase/MIDI Remote/Driver Scripts/Local/PreSonus/FaderPort/PreSonus_FaderPort.js
Further Problem Solutions
- Clear Cubase Preferences: Start Cubase while holding Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Cmd+Option+Shift (Mac) to delete all Cubase preferences. This is often necessary after a Cubase update.
- Clear Temporary Files (Windows): Delete the contents of the hidden system folder
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Temp
. Note that this path may vary depending on your system language. - Toggle MIDI Remote Script: In Cubase, try disabling and then re-enabling the MIDI Remote script. Navigate to:
Studio > MIDI Remote Manager > Scripts > FaderPort, PreSonus > Disable Controller Script
. - Check MIDI Input for Instrument Tracks: If unwanted sounds occur when an Instrument track is active, check the MIDI input assignment in the Channel Editor. Ensure the FaderPort is not assigned as an input. Also, disable the FaderPort's input in Cubase's MIDI Port Setup:
Studio > Studio Setup > Remote Devices > MIDI Port Setup > In 'All MIDI Inputs'
. This setting should be enabled only if you intend to use the Motorfader Mode directly with the MIDI Remote script. - Startup Order: Always turn on the FaderPort after the PC has fully booted. Start Cubase (Version 12.0.70 or 13.0.10/13.0.20 recommended) after the FaderPort is on. Always turn off the FaderPort before shutting down your system.
- Steinberg Forum: Consult the Steinberg Forum for additional information on general system problems related to USB connections.
- Rotate Knob Issues: If the Rotate Knob behaves erratically, try turning it fully counter-clockwise for 30 seconds, then fully clockwise for 30 seconds. Afterward, re-apply the troubleshooting steps mentioned above (including firmware reload). If the issue persists, treating the Rotate Knob with electronic spray might help. Further information can be found online.
Issue with Context Menus
The connection to the FaderPort is interrupted when a context menu is open in Cubase (activated by a right-click). Ensure you close any open context menus before pressing a button on the FaderPort.
