Appliance Location Options
Diagrams illustrating various appliance placement scenarios:
- Across a corner: Requires 24" [610] clearance.
- As a divider: Requires 42-1/2" [1080] and 54-1/2" [1384] clearances.
- In an exterior chase: Requires 16" [406] clearance.
- Along a wall: Requires 16" [406], 48" [1219], 54-1/2" [1384], 42-1/2" [1080] clearances.
Faceplate to sidewall clearance is 16 inches.
*If interior of chase will be drywalled, add the thickness to this measurement.
Framing Dimensions
Diagrams showing framing requirements:
- Header and framing above the header must be 2x4s to maintain pipe clearances.
- Finished cavity depth must be no less than 24" (610 mm) from the finished backwall to the outside of front wall framing.
- Allow 12" minimum cavity depth if using an elbow/bend for the required outside air. Duct may be installed on either side.
- Framing dimensions: 14-1/2" (368 mm) for SL300 Chimney, 16" (406 mm) for DuraPlus Chimney.
- Overall height: 56-3/4" (1441 mm).
- Width: 42-1/2" (1080 mm).
- Header height: 12" (305 mm).
You must use 2x4's for the header in order to maintain clearances to the pipe.
Mantel Projections
Diagram illustrating mantel placement relative to the fireplace. Non-combustible board and decorative facing (steel, iron, brick, tile, concrete, slate, tile, plasters) should not cover air openings. Combustible mantel may be positioned within a grid representing 1" squares.
- Combustible mantel may be positioned anywhere within the grid area.
- Maximum mantel height: 60" (1524mm) measured up from the base of the fireplace.
- Minimum mantel depth: 12" (305 mm).
- Non-combustible mantel may be positioned as low as 1 in. above the Fascia (Fronts) and 12 in. deep or from the base of the fireplace 38 in. up.
- Seal joint with non-combustible sealant to prevent heat from being drawn into the wall cavity.
Hearth Extensions
Diagrams and instructions for hearth extensions:
- Minimum 8" [203] from each side of fuel opening.
- Minimum 20" [508] in front of fuel opening.
- Total hearth extension dimensions: 41" [1041] wide, 24" [610] deep.
Hearth Extension Construction:
- Minimum 2" [51] Cement Board or equivalent (or one piece HX4).
- Non-combustible material supplied with unit (Fascia/Outer Shell/Flange).
- Protective metal hearth strip.
- Tile, marble or other non-combustible finish material.
- Non-combustible sealant or grout.

Clearances to Combustibles
Diagrams illustrating required clearances for chimney components:
- Top of appliance to ceiling: 36" (914mm).
- Ceiling Firestop: 2" (51mm) minimum clearance from ceiling.
- Attic Insulation Shield: 2" (51mm) minimum clearance.
- Offset/Return with hanger straps: 2" (51mm) minimum clearance.
- Header: Must have 2" (51mm) minimum clearance to header.
- Chimney Air Kit required with SL chimney.
- DuraPlus base plate required with DuraPlus chimney.
- Electrical wires must be a minimum of 16" (406mm) from top, 1/2" (13mm) to back of appliance, 1" (25mm) to side of appliance.
