The product contains replaceable CR2450 batteries. The nominal voltage is 3V.

⚠ WARNING

  • INGESTION HAZARD: This product contains a button cell or coin battery.
  • DEATH or serious injury can occur if ingested.
  • A swallowed button cell or coin battery can cause Internal Chemical Burns in as little as 2 hours.
  • KEEP new and used batteries OUT OF REACH of CHILDREN
  • Seek immediate medical attention if a battery is suspected to be swallowed or inserted inside any part of the body.

Symbol description: A warning triangle with an exclamation mark, and a symbol indicating a battery with a plus sign and a circle with a diagonal line through it, signifying danger from batteries.

  1. Remove and immediately recycle or dispose of used batteries according to local regulations and keep away from children. Do NOT dispose of batteries in household trash or incinerate.
  2. Even used batteries may cause severe injury or death.
  3. Call a local poison control center for treatment information.
  4. Non-rechargeable batteries are not to be recharged.
  5. Do not force discharge, recharge, disassemble, heat above (manufacturer's specified temperature rating) or incinerate. Doing so may result in injury due to venting, leakage or explosion resulting in chemical burns.

SECTION 4 - OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

4-1. Helmet Controls

The helmet features several controls for operation. The main viewing area is an auto-darkening lens with controls for shade, sensitivity, and delay. A battery compartment is also present.

Control Descriptions:

  1. Variable Shade Control (No. 9-13): A rotary knob on the side of the helmet, used to adjust the darkness of the lens.
  2. Test Button: A small button near the low battery indicator, used to check lens function.
  3. Low Battery Indicator: A small LED light that illuminates when battery power is low.
  4. Sensitivity Control: A rotary knob, typically labeled 'SENSITIVITY', used to adjust the lens's responsiveness to light.
  5. Lens Delay Control: A rotary knob, typically labeled 'DELAY', used to adjust the time the lens takes to return to the clear state after welding.
  6. Battery Compartment: Located on the side of the auto-darkening filter, requiring extra tools to open.

4-2. Test Button and Low Battery Indicator

1. Test Button: Press the Test button to check if the lens is working properly. When pressed, the lens should darken and then return to the clear state. The lens will not darken in GRIND MODE. Do not use the helmet if the lens does not function as described. Refer to Section 9, Troubleshooting.

2. Low Battery Indicator: The low battery indicator lights when 2-3 days of battery life remain. If battery power is low, replace with CR2450 lithium batteries (1 required).

4-3. Lens Delay Control

1. Lens Delay Control: This control is used to adjust the time for the lens to switch to the clear state after welding. The delay is particularly useful in eliminating bright after-rays present in higher amperage applications where the molten puddle remains bright momentarily after welding. Lens delay adjusts from minimum (0.10 second) to maximum (1 second).

4-4. Variable Shade Control (No. 9-13)

1. Variable Shade Control: The lens shade can be adjusted from No. 9-13 on the Variable Shade helmet. Use this control to adjust the lens shade in the darkened state. Refer to the table in Section 4-5 (Shade Selection Chart) to select the proper shade control setting based on your welding process. Start at the darkest shade and adjust lighter to suit the welding application and your personal preference.

* Start with a shade that is too dark to see the weld zone. Then, go to a lighter shade which gives a sufficient view of the weld zone without going below the minimum.

4-6. Sensitivity Control

1. Sensitivity Control: Use this control to make the lens more responsive to different light levels in various welding/cutting processes. Use a Mid-Range or 30-50% sensitivity setting for most applications. It may be necessary to adjust helmet sensitivity to accommodate different lighting conditions or if the lens is flashing On and Off.

SECTION 5 – ADJUSTING HEADGEAR

The headgear offers four adjustments: headgear top, tightness, angle adjustment, and distance adjustment.

☞ There are four headgear adjustments: headgear top, tightness, angle adjustment, and distance adjustment.

The headgear assembly consists of a main headband with a rear adjustment knob, side tension knobs, and a comfort cushion. The lens assembly is attached to the front of the headgear.

  1. Headgear Top: Adjusts headgear for proper depth on the head to ensure correct balance and stability.
  2. Headgear Tightness: To adjust, push in the adjusting knob located on the back of the headgear and turn left or right to desired tightness.

☞ If adjustment is limited, it may be necessary to remove the comfort cushion.

  1. Distance Adjustment: Adjusts the distance between the face and the lens. To adjust, loosen both outside tension knobs and press inward to free from adjustment slots. Move forward or back to desired position and retighten. (Both sides must be equally positioned for proper vision.)
  2. Angle Adjustment: Four pins on the right side of the headband top provide adjustment for the forward tilt of the helmet. To adjust, loosen the right outside tension adjustment knob then lift on the control arm tab and move it to the desired position. Retighten tension adjustment knob.

☞ When using the back distance adjustment positions, only the back three angle adjustment pins can be used.

NOTES: When the welding helmet stands up to 90 degrees, a click may be heard on the right side, indicating that the buckle is stuck. To fix this, secure both ends, tighten the back of the headgear, and tighten the buckle on both sides to prevent the welding helmet from slipping.

SECTION 6 – REPLACING THE LENS COVERS

⚠ Never use the auto-darkening lens without the inside and outside lens covers properly installed. Welding spatter will damage the auto-darkening lens and void the warranty.

The lens cover assembly involves an outside lens cover, lens assembly, lens frame, lens frame snap, and an inside lens cover. The lens assembly is connected to the battery via a cable.

Outside Lens Cover Replacement:

Push down the snap on the bottom of the lens frame. Rotate the frame clockwise to take it out. Remove the old outside lens cover by pushing it into the helmet and reinstall a new outside lens cover. Be careful not to break the cable connecting the battery and the lens.

Inside Lens Cover Replacement:

Remove the inside lens cover by prying the cover from the groove in the gasket and reinstall a new one.

SECTION 7 – REPLACING THE BATTERY

The battery compartment is located on the auto-darkening filter. The battery is a CR2450 lithium battery.

☞ Be sure Positive (+) side of battery faces up.

Battery Replacement Steps:

  1. Rotate the battery cover with a screwdriver or coin in the groove to open it.
  2. Press the battery at the left spring of the battery; the battery will pop out, allowing removal of the old battery.
  3. Put the positive electrode of the new battery upward into the left side of the spring, and press it to install it.
  4. Rotate the battery cover back to the original position using a tool.

☞ Be sure Positive (+) side of the battery faces up toward the inside of a helmet.

Reinstall the battery tray. To test, press the Test Button. The lens should darken and return to the clear state. Reinstall the lens assembly.

SECTION 8 – INSTALLING OPTIONAL MAGNIFYING LENS

1. Optional Magnifying Lens: Starting at the bottom, slide the magnifying lens into the helmet retaining brackets. Align the magnifying lens with the auto-darkening lens assembly.

☞ To prevent lens fogging, install the flat side of the magnifying lens toward the auto-darkening lens.

SECTION 9 – MAINTENANCE

NOTICE – Never use solvents or abrasive cleaning detergents.

NOTICE – Do not immerse the lens assembly in water.

The helmet requires little maintenance. However, for best performance, clean after each use. Using a soft cloth dampened with a mild soap and water solution, wipe the cover lenses clean. Allow to air dry. Occasionally, the filter lens and sensors should be cleaned by gently wiping with a soft, dry cloth.
