- IR Lens: Window used to capture the infrared signal from the transmitter for channel synchronization with the receiver. Battery cover must be open, and IR Lens must face the receiver.
- Plastic Screwdriver: Used for adjusting the Input GAIN control.
Quick Start
Follow these steps to set up and use your Stage 412 wireless system:
- Receiver Placement: Place the SR412 receiver where it will be used. Extend antennas vertically. Maintain "line of sight" between the receiver and transmitter.
- Power Connection: With the SR412 powered off, connect the included power adapter. Turn the SR412 on momentarily to confirm power (LED displays should light up), then turn it off.
- Audio Connections: With your amplifier or mixer off and volume down, connect the SR412 receiver's XLR Mix Outputs or 1/4" outputs to the mixer/amplifier inputs. Turn the SR412 Level knob fully counterclockwise, then turn on its power.
- Transmitter Setup: With the transmitter powered off, install two fresh AA batteries into the VH12 transmitter, leaving the battery compartment open. Turn on the transmitter; the indicator LED should light green.
- Channel Selection: Press the CH A SELECT button on the SR412 receiver to choose an available channel (1-6). The channel number will increment.
- IR Synchronization: Position the VH12 transmitter 6-12 inches (15-30 cm) from the SR412 receiver, with the transmitter's IR window facing the receiver's IR transmitter. Press and hold the SR412 CH A SELECT button to send the channel information via infrared.
- Confirmation: The SR412 will receive the RF signal and tone-key. The CH A READY indicator will light. Repeat these steps for the remaining transmitters and receivers. Available frequency channels do not overlap, allowing multiple receivers to be set to the same channel number if needed.
- Final Setup: Turn on your connected amplifier or mixer with volume still down. Set the SR412 Volume knob to "10" (unity gain). Speak or sing into the microphone and slowly raise the amplifier/mixer volume until the desired level is reached.
- Troubleshooting: If experiencing dropouts, reduced range, or noise, change the operating channel. When using multiple systems in the same frequency band, ensure each system is set to a different operating channel.

All About Squelch
Squelch circuitry silences the audio output of the receiver when the desired RF signal is absent. Without it, receivers might output noise or unwanted signals when the RF signal is lost (due to dropout, distance, or transmitter being off). This is related to the "capture effect," where an FM receiver seeks the strongest signal.
Wireless systems use several squelch circuit types:
- Carrier Squelch: Sets an RF signal threshold; audio is muted when signals drop below it.
- Noise Squelch: Compares incoming RF signal to a reference voltage (e.g., 200 kHz) to distinguish valid signals from radio noise, muting output when noise is detected.
- Tone Squelch (Tone-Key/Tone-Code): The Stage 412 system uses this method. Transmitters add a supersonic tone to audio signals; receivers only pass audio signals containing this tone.
