Tools you will need to complete your installation:

OPTIONAL

If mounting to a support structure, you will also need these tools:

What's in your box:

We recommend you unpack everything and lay it out in front of you. We have grouped the components drawn below along with the hardware you will need for those parts. The screws below are drawn to scale to make it easier to identify which hardware piece is needed to install each component.

Hunter Pro Tip: Do not discard hardware bags or mix parts from different bags. Note the symbol printed on each hardware bag. The symbols can be used to identify the appropriate hardware for each step.

⚠️IMPORTANT! Remove the shipping blocks from the motor. Save the screws. They will be needed for installing the blade bracket. Note: Some fans come with a shipping ring instead of shipping blocks. Please remove the ring and save the screws.

Note: Fan type may vary.

Choosing the right installation location.

You probably bought this fan with a location in mind. Let's look below to make sure it's a good fit.

Check room dimensions:

Check the outlet box:

It must be capable of securely supporting the fan to the building structure or an outlet box approved for fans.

Checking the ceiling slope:

If you have a flat ceiling

Use standard mounting or low-profile mounting to hang the fan from a flat ceiling.

If your ceiling is sloped:

  1. You will need a longer downrod (sold separately).
  2. If the slope of your ceiling is greater than 34°, you will also need an Angle Mount Kit (sold separately).

A little more information on Sloped Ceiling Mounting:

For optimal performance and appearance, you should use a longer, hollow downrod with your Hunter ceiling fan when installing on high or sloped ceilings. If your ceiling has a slope greater than 34°, you will also need an Angle Mount Kit. Longer downrods and Angle Mount Kits are sold separately at HunterFan.com.

Hunter Pro Tip: Determining if you need an Angle Mount Kit: Fold on the dotted line. Place the edge against the wall. Slide it up to the ceiling. If the guide touches the wall but not the ceiling, you need an Angle Mount Kit.

Installing the Ceiling Mount.

You have two installation options. Choose the one that best suits your location. Remove any existing bracket before installation. Use only the ceiling bracket provided by Hunter that is inside the fan box.

⏏️ Turn off the power

Option 1: Machine Screw

Use machine screw (provided with the outlet box) to secure to the existing ceiling outlet box. Make sure it is securely installed and acceptable for fan support of 31.8 kg (70 lb) or less.

Angle Mount Tip

For sloped ceilings, point the opening toward the peak.

Option 2: Wood Screw

Use 3" wood screw (included) to secure to the support structure with the approved electrical outlet box. Drill 9/64" pilot holes in the support structure to help secure the ceiling bracket with the hardware from the bag.

Hunter Pro Tip: Machine screws are the ones that come with your outlet box.

Installing the Downrod.

Follow along if you are using the downrod that came pre-assembled in your box. Need to install a longer or shorter downrod? Refer to the guide at the end of this manual.

Hunter Pro Tip: The ground wire attached to the downrod is approximately 8 inches long.

STEP 1

Remove the pre-installed set screw to allow the downrod to be inserted.

STEP 2

Tighten the downrod set screw with pliers. DO NOT TIGHTEN BY HAND.

STEP 3

Tighten the downrod by rotating it (at least 4-5 full turns) until it stops. The wires can be cut, but leave at least 8" extending from the top of the downrod.

⚠️FAN FALL HAZARD

To prevent SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH:

Hanging the fan.

Slide the canopy over the downrod and wires.

Progress Check: Your fan should look like this.

NOTICE

To prevent fan damage, ALWAYS lift by holding either the fan housing or the support tube. Place the downrod ball into the ceiling mount slot.

Wiring the fan.

We know wiring can be tricky. Let's make it easier. Follow these steps to wire your fan quickly and safely. Follow the path that most closely matches your wall switch installation. If you are not familiar with wiring or uncomfortable doing it yourself, please contact a qualified electrician.

You will need the following:

Do you have a single switch?

Follow these steps:

⚠️WARNING

All wiring must be done in accordance with local and national electrical codes ANSI/NFPA 70. If you are not familiar with wiring, or if you have doubts, consult a qualified electrician.

Hunter Pro Tip: Additional wiring? Tuck the splices upward and carefully push them back through the hanging bracket into the outlet box. Separate the wires, with the ground wires to one side of the outlet box and the non-ground wires to the other side of the outlet box.

Do you have dual switches?

Follow these steps:

Hunter Pro Tip: Connecting wires? Hold the bare ends of the wires together and place a connector over them; then twist in a clockwise direction until they are tight. Give a gentle tug to make sure none of the wires are loose.

Installing the Canopy.

Adjust the canopy into place as shown. Lift the canopy to position it so the screw holes for the screws are aligned. Insert the two canopy screws that are in the hardware bag.

Installing the Blades.

Insert the washers from the hardware bag into the blade bracket holes, then secure each blade to a blade bracket with the blade bracket screws from the hardware bag.

Repeat x5

Attach the blade brackets to the motor using the motor screws and then firmly tighten once both screws are seated.

Remember the screws you saved after removing the shipping blocks? You need them for this step.

Assembling the Light.

STEP 1 Partially screw in two of the light kit screws that are in the hardware bag into the motor housing. It doesn't matter which holes you choose.

STEP 2 Pass the wire plug through the center hole of the upper switch housing, then wrap the keyhole slot around the screws and turn clockwise.

STEP 3 Insert a third screw, found in the hardware bag, into place and tighten all three screws.

⚠️FAN FALL HAZARD Ensure all three screws are tightened to secure the upper switch housing to the mounting plate.

STEP 4 Connect the fan and light fixture plugs. Make sure to align the color-coded marks on the connectors.

STEP 5 Lift the lower switch housing until the screw holes align with the screw holes in the upper switch housing.

STEP 6 Install the three switch housing screws included in the hardware bag.

⚠️FAN FALL HAZARD Ensure all three screws are tightened to secure the lower switch housing to the upper switch housing.

Installing the Bulbs and Glass Shades.

Hunter Pro Tip: Install one bulb in each socket. When necessary, replace bulbs with the same type and wattage.

Repeat x2

Want to install your fan without a light kit? Visit www.HunterFan.com/FAQs and click on "How do I install my fan without the light kit?"

Note: Fan type may vary.

Press the glass shade and globe fitter flush against the metal plate. Pass the light chain through the hole in the center of the decorative canopy cover and pass the fan chain through the hole in the side of the cover. Finally, pass the light chain only through the hole in the decorative cover and screw the decorative cover onto the threaded rod.

⚠️GLASS FALL HAZARD To prevent SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH, ensure the glass is properly secured.

Connect the power.

Installing the Pull Chains.

Pass the pull chains from the fan switch and light switch down through the holes in the upper switch housing. Connect the pull chain fobs to the pull chains for the light and fan.

Repeat x2

The fan pull chain controls the speed: from high speed to off.

The light pull chain controls the light accessory: on and off.

Changing the direction of airflow.

Ceiling fans operate in two directions: down (counter-clockwise) and up (clockwise). To change the direction of airflow, turn off the fan and let it stop completely. Slide the fan's reverse switch to the opposite position. Turn the fan back on.

Troubleshooting.

The fan does not operate

Excessive Wobble

Noisy Operation

Hunter Pro Tip: To clean the fan, use a soft brush or lint-free cloth to avoid scratches. Cleaning products can damage finishes.
