Z-Wave Network Operation
This product can be operated in any Z-Wave™ network with other Z-Wave certified devices from other manufacturers. All mains-operated nodes within the network will act as repeaters regardless of vendor to increase network reliability. In an ELAN SC Series System Controller, the host application controls the device reset feature. If this controller is the primary controller for your network, resetting it will result in the nodes in your network being orphaned, and it will be necessary after the reset to exclude and re-include all nodes in the network. If this controller is being used as a secondary controller, use this procedure to reset it only if the network primary controller is missing or otherwise inoperable.

Mounting
The EL-SC-100 is designed for flexible mounting: on a shelf, in a cabinet or rack, or in a structured wiring enclosure using an optional mounting bracket.
Wall Mounting:
The chassis is designed for convenient wall mounting in any orientation. Use the arrows on the rear panel to mark screw locations. Mount screws leaving approximately 3/16" (5mm) of the screw exposed. Slide the chassis over the screws. Ensure a 3/16" gap is left between screw heads and the wall.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows how to mark screw holes on a wall using arrows found on the rear panel. Another diagram presents a mounting bracket template with overall dimensions of 7 inches by 5 inches, indicating internal mounting points spaced 3 inches apart.
Structured Wiring Cabinet Mounting:
Using the optional Structured Wiring Cabinet Mount:
- Attach the mounting bracket to the wiring cabinet using snap rivets and washers.
- Snap the controller onto the two hooks on the mounting bracket.
Diagram Description: Two diagrams illustrate the process of attaching a mounting bracket to a wiring cabinet and then securing the controller to the bracket.
Shelf Mounting:
The EL-SC-100 features rubber feet to protect finished surfaces. Place the controller on a stable surface, ensuring connected wiring is managed to avoid tension on the connections.
Connections
Serial Connection:
Connect an RS-232 serial controlled device using an RJ45 connector (not included) to the RS232 port on the rear of the controller. The EL-SC-100 is not compatible with RS-485 serial devices; use a gSC10 controller for RS-485 connections.
RJ45 Connector Pin-Out:
- 1: (Unspecified)
- 2: CD (Carrier Detect)
- 3: DTR (Data Terminal Ready)
- 4: SG (Signal Ground)
- 5: RD (Receive Data)
- 6: TD (Transmit Data)
- 7: CTS (Clear To Send)
- 8: RTS (Request To Send)
Diagram Description: An illustration shows an RJ45 connector and its pin configuration, numbered 1 through 8, with corresponding signal names.
Sense Input Connection:
ELAN sensors can trigger events from third-party devices. The status is binary (ON or OFF). This can be used to trigger or condition an event map. Connect only ELAN sensors to this port.
Available ELAN Sensors:
- Audio Sensor (P/N: AUDSENSOR)
- Video Sensor (P/N: VIDSENSOR)
- Contact Closure Sensor (P/N: CTSENSOR)
- Current / Magnetic Field Sensor (P/N: CRSENSOR)
- Light / LED Sensor (P/N: LTSENSOR)
- Voltage Sensor (P/N: VTSENSOR)
IR Output Connection:
Three discrete IR outputs are provided to control third-party devices, compatible with Xantech single and dual emitters.
Diagram Description: A diagram shows the IR OUTPUTS ports connected via cables to external devices labeled DVD, Media Player, and TV.
HDMI Connection:
The EL-SC-100 includes an HDMI connector for an On-Screen Display (OSD) interface. Connect the OSD output to an available HDMI input on a display or AVR.
USB Connection:
The USB connection is primarily for the optional USB Z-Wave antenna. Refer to integration notes for configuring Z-Wave devices through the EL-SC-100.
LAN / PoE Connection:
The EL-SC-100 features a Gigabit PoE compatible Ethernet port. Connect an Ethernet cable to an available network port. A wired connection is preferred over Wi-Fi. The unit can be powered over Ethernet (PoE) with a minimum requirement of IEEE 802.3at (42.5 - 57 VDC, 600 mA maximum).
Reset Button Procedures
The recessed pinhole reset button on the right side of the controller can be used in three ways:
- 2-second press and release: Resets the controller to DHCP.
- 20-second press and release: Removes all configuration information, while maintaining the software version.
- 10-second press and release (during power-on): Performs a full factory reset, reverting to the factory default software version. ⚠️ WARNING: DO NOT remove power during a factory reset, as it will permanently damage the unit. Allow approximately 4 minutes for the unit to reboot and become discoverable. The LED will remain red during the reset process. These actions cannot be undone.
Powering On and Status Indicators
Power:
Once all other connections are complete, connect an Ethernet cable to a PoE switch or the 12 VDC, 1A power supply to the DC input.
Power Button:
- When the controller is off, a short press powers the unit on.
- When the controller is on, a short press (less than three seconds) restarts the controller.
- When the controller is on, a long press (3 seconds or longer) powers down the controller.
LED Status Indicator:
The LED communicates the status of the controller:
- Blue: Connected OK / Power
- Blue flashing: Boot up
- Amber: No network found
- Red: Boot failure
- Red flashing: Self-check failure
Network and Software
Network Connection:
The EL-SC-100 is factory set to use DHCP. Connect to a wired network and use the ELAN Configurator to connect to the controller. Once connected, use the configurator to set a static IP address or connect via Wi-Fi.
Software Update:
Before configuring the controller, upgrade the software to the latest available version from the ELAN Dealer Resources portal. Download and open the executable file, then follow the on-screen instructions.
