Speaker Configuration
The table below shows the channels that should be used based on the number of speakers you have. Regardless of the number of speakers used, a subwoofer is recommended for solid, powerful bass. For the best possible result from your home theater system, you should manually adjust your speakers.
Number of Channels | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
---|---|---|---|---|
Front Speakers | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
Center Speaker | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | |
Surround Speakers | ✓ | ✓ |
Placing Speaker Cable Identification Labels:
Speaker terminals are identified by a color code.
Speaker | Color |
---|---|
Front Left | White |
Front Right | Red |
Center | Green |
Surround Left | Blue |
Surround Right | Gray |
The supplied speaker cable identification labels also have a color code, and you should place them on the positive (+) side of each cable, according to the table above. Once done, you just need to match the color of each label with the corresponding speaker terminal.
Precautions Regarding Speaker Connections:
Before connecting your speakers, read the section below.
- You can connect speakers with an impedance between 6 and 16 ohms. If the impedance of any of the speakers is lower than these values and you use high volume levels for a prolonged period, the internal protection circuit may activate.
- Disconnect the power cord from the power outlet before making any connections.
- Read the instruction manual supplied with the speakers.
- Ensure that the positive and negative wires of the speaker cables are connected correctly. Connect the positive (+) terminals only to the positive (+) terminals, and the negative (-) terminals only to the negative (-) terminals. If they are reversed, the acoustic image and bass sound will be impaired.
- Unnecessarily long or very thin speaker cables can affect sound quality and should be avoided.
- Be careful not to short the positive and negative cables, as this could damage the TX-SR309.
- Be careful that the metallic core of the cables does not come into contact with the rear panel of the TX-SR309, as this could damage it.
- Do not connect more than one speaker cable to a single terminal. This could damage the TX-SR309.
- Do not connect one speaker to multiple terminals.
How to Connect an Active Subwoofer
To find the best placement for the subwoofer, while playing a movie or music with good bass content, try placing it in various locations in the room and choose the one that provides the best results.
TIP: If your subwoofer is a passive model (without an internal amplifier), connect the SUBWOOFER PRE OUT output of the TX-SR309 to the input of an external amplifier.

Before making any AV connections, read the instruction manuals provided with the equipment.
Do not connect the power cord to the power outlet before making all audio and video connections.
For good connections, push the plugs fully into the jacks (poor connections can cause noise or malfunction).
To prevent interference, keep audio and video cables away from power cords and speaker cables.
Diagram: Illustrates correct vs. incorrect insertion of audio/video cables (e.g., optical cable).
