DEPLOYMENT AND SET-UP

DEPLOYING YOUR VMS TRAILER

1. If using a compact or medium device, extend the draw-bar fully from the under chassis and use the locking mechanism to hold it in place.
Lock securely with pin to allow you to tow the trailer.

2. Lower the jockey wheel.

3.

Once the jockey wheel is retracted, the drawbar coupling will slot in the towbar and the couplings

will engage fully from an unlocked to a locked

position automatically.

Note: Large Trailer Devices If deploying a large trailer, use the non-retractable towbar. You will not need to manually lock your device in place.

4.

When deploying the unit, undo the trailer cable and store under the shelf in the VMS control

box.

5. When deploying, undo the chain, extend the jockey wheel fully and unlock the coupling handle which disengages the trailer from the vehicle's tow bar.

6. Extend the 4 outertrigger arm bars if required, then lower the 4 wind-down legs.

7.

Rotate and tilt the solar panel to face true south. Unlock the red handle on the mast to roatate the panel, then unlock the red clips either side to tilt using the leaver in

the control box.

8.

Rotate the sign head to face oncoming traffic and extend to the required height.

To adjust the height use the hydraulic controls in the control box in the trailer base. If you have a compact device, this will be done with a manual winch.

POWERING THE SIGN ON
To power on, turn the switch inside the control cabinet, then you will be able to communicate to the sign using the Remote Connect System (RCS) software.
BATTERY AND CHARGER
For large trailers, there will be a battery charger located in the trailer base for mains charging. For compact and medium devices this will be an additional item. To charge the batteries on medium and compact devices, plug the power cable into 240V Mains power. It takes about 15 hours to fully charge the batteries from a minimum acceptable charge level.

FUEL CELL CHARGING
If your unit utilises a fuel cell, this will keep the battery permanently float/trickle charged. The fuel cell will maintain the battery charge at all times.
For example, if a 12V battery falls to 11.9V the fuel cell will bring this back up to 12V instantly. A solar panel will also keep the battery levels topped up.

SIGN TRANSPORT AND REMOVAL CHECKLIST
Please follow the below guidelines when preparing to transport your VMS trailer, as failure to follow procedure can cause serious injury or death if the sign becomes loose in transit.
` Ensure the door is locked during transportation. ` Lower the Sign Head using the Hoist Down switch on the VMS Control Panel in the
trailer base (use manual winch if using a compact device). ` Ensure the sign is blank when towed - turn off all messages. This can be done by turning
the screen off from RCS and ensuring the switches in the control box are off. ` Ensure the sign is fully lowered into the groove on the trailer base before transportation. ` Rotate and lower the solar panel back into the park position and lock with the arms
provided. ` Retract the wind down legs and slide in the outriggers on all four sides. Ensure the legs
are fully retracted, using the spring clip when transporting. ` Pull the safety clip and rotate the wind-down legs upside down, ensuring the safety clip
goes back in to lock the wind-down leg in the upwards position. ` Use the Jockey wheel to lower the tow coupling onto the tow ball. Ensure the tow
coupling fits snugly onto the tow ball of the towing vehicle.Attach the safety chain onto the tow/draw bar. ` Wind up the Jockey wheel, ensuring it will not move once in the towing position. ` If the unit has one, release the handbrake if still engaged. ` Plug the tow cable into the plug on the trailer and the towing vehicle. Check the trailer lights are functioning correctly. ` Attach the handbrake cable or chain to the tow bar fixings on the vehicle. ` Ensure the screen has been powered off.

MAINTENANCE ACCESS
For safety purposes, any maintenance on a VMS Trailer unit must only be performed by a qualified electrician
Cleaning Your VMS Unit The displays should not be cleaned unless discolouration (from trees, traffic film, road dust) is excessive. The textured paint finish has strong anti-reflective properties and can be affected by excessive cleaning. If cleaning is required a light soapy cleaning agent can be used with either soft cloth or soft bristled brush and gentle wiping. It is essential that no excessive rubbing occurs otherwise paint finish can lose anti reflective properties.
COMPACT AND MEDIUM TRAILERS
For inside access to a compact or medium sign for maintenance, use the key provided to unlock each lock located on the outer perimeter of the sign, then pull the sign door upwards. Once finished, ensure door is closed and all locks are locked again using the key.
Ensure the door is locked during transportation.

LARGE TRAILERS
Large trailer devices do not have a door to open, rather they are composed of individual tiles of LEDs that must be removed from the trailer by unscrewing the screws on the face of the sign.
