Indoor Air Quality Functions
Event-Based™ Air Cleaning (If Installed)
This function activates the fan for air cleaning. It offers temporary events and persistent modes.
Events (Temporary)
- 3 Hrs: Air cleaner runs for 3 hours continuously, then returns to the previous mode (Auto, Continuous, or Off). Useful for diluting odors after activities like vacuuming.
- 24 Hrs: Air cleaner runs continuously for 24 hours, then returns to the previous mode. Useful during periods of high pollen or poor outdoor air quality.
Modes (Persistent)
- Auto: Air cleaner runs a minimum of 30 minutes per hour, monitoring system run time. If 30 minutes isn't reached, it activates automatically to maximize cleaning while minimizing energy use.
- Continuous: Provides maximum air cleaning, running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Off: Air cleaner fan does not run for air cleaning purposes.
Note: The thermostat manages fan and air cleaning selections when they overlap.
Humidifier Control (S86N MUPR Only, If Installed)
The thermostat can control a humidifier in either Automatic or Manual mode, based on installer setup. Automatic mode adjusts humidity based on outdoor temperature to prevent window condensation. Manual mode allows setting a specific humidity level.
Automatic Mode
In Automatic Mode, the thermostat aims to provide optimal humidity, protecting your home and furnishings. It automatically adjusts home humidity based on outdoor temperature to maximize humidity while preventing window condensation.
Initial Setup: Adjust the humidity setting to '3' (low-normal range). Monitor over 24-48 hours and adjust as needed for comfort and home construction. Minor adjustments may be necessary during the first heating season based on window insulation and overall home insulation.
Manual Mode
In Manual Mode, it's important to anticipate temperature changes. Use Table 1 to determine the proper relative humidity setting. Adjustments may be needed throughout the heating season.
Outdoor Temperature | Indoor Relative Humidity |
---|---|
+50°F | 50% |
+40°F | 45% |
+30°F | 40% |
+20°F | 35% |
+10°F | 30% |
0°F | 25% |
-10°F | 20% |
-20°F | 15% |
Dehumidifier Control (S86N MUPR Only, If Installed)
This thermostat can control a whole-home dehumidifier or the air conditioner (cooling unit) for dehumidification. You can set the desired humidity level (% relative humidity) and turn dehumidification On or Off.
Initial Setup: Set the dehumidification setpoint to 60% when first installed. Allow it to run until the setpoint is reached before adjusting. Raising the setting makes the air less dry (reduces run time); lowering it makes the air more dry (increases run time).
Note on Initial Run: It's common for dehumidification to run for an extended period initially as it removes moisture from home materials.
If Dehumidification is Done with the Air Conditioner
The thermostat will cool up to 3°F beyond the cooling setpoint for dehumidification. Note: Overcooling may not always be sufficient to meet the dehumidification setpoint.
Energy Saving Tips:
- Tip 1: Set the dehumidifier as high as comfortable to reduce run time. If the air feels damp or smells musty, lower the setting. Turn the dehumidifier OFF when opening windows, similar to air conditioning.
- Tip 2: If vacating your home for an extended period in summer, set relative humidity to 60% and the cooling setpoint to the highest comfortable level for pets and possessions. Consult professionals for optimal setpoints. This helps prevent mold while minimizing cooling energy use. Use Vacation Hold for convenience. (See page 26).
Fresh Air Ventilation (S86N MUPR Only, If Installed)
This thermostat can control fresh air ventilation based on a schedule. You can temporarily override the schedule or turn it off if outdoor conditions are poor.
Events (Temporary)
- 3 Hours: Ventilation runs continuously for 3 hours, then returns to the previous mode (Auto or Off). Used when fresh air is needed, e.g., to dilute cooking odors.
- 24 Hours: Ventilation runs continuously for 24 hours, then returns to the previous mode. Used when a large amount of fresh air is desired, e.g., on a day with desirable outdoor conditions.
Mode (Persistent)
- Auto: Ventilation cycles based on installer-set parameters to meet home ventilation requirements.
- Off: Ventilation will not run.
Program Schedule and Holds
Set Time and Date
1. Select 'Settings' from the Main Menu.
2. From the Settings menu, select 'Clock' to set the time or 'Date' to set the date.
Understanding Program Schedules
The daily schedule is divided into four sections:
- Wake: Preferred temperature upon waking.
- Leave: Temperature when away from home.
- Return: Preferred temperature upon returning home.
- Sleep: Preferred temperature while sleeping.
Table 2 shows default times and temperatures. These can be changed to fit your schedule and can help reduce heating/cooling expenses. The fan program defaults to 'Auto' for all events.
Event Designator | Start Time | Set Temperature (Heat) | Set Temperature (Cool) | Fan |
---|---|---|---|---|
Wake | 6:00 AM | 70°F (21°C) | 78°F (25.5°C) | Auto |
Leave | 8:00 AM | 62°F (16.5°C) | 85°F (29.5°C) | Auto |
Return | 5:00 PM | 70°F (21°C) | 78°F (25.5°C) | Auto |
Sleep | 10:00 PM | 62°F (16.5°C) | 82°F (27.5°C) | Auto |
Progressive Recovery
This feature allows pre-heating or pre-cooling before a scheduled event to reach the desired temperature by the event's start time. For example, if the Wake time is 6:00 AM with a 70°F heat set point, the heat will turn on before 6:00 AM to ensure the temperature is 70°F by then.
How to Modify Program Schedules
1. From the 'Schedule' option in the Main Menu, you can turn the schedule On or Off and make changes.
2. Select 'Modify' to change default schedule settings.
3. Select the group of days or the specific day you wish to modify.
4. Adjust Wake details (Start Time, Heat, Cool, Fan) and select 'Next' to proceed.
5. Adjust Leave details and select 'Next'.
6. Adjust Return details and select 'Next'.
7. Adjust Sleep details and select 'Next'.
8. After modifying a group of days, you can 'Save & Exit' back to the Home screen. If you modified a single day, you can copy the settings to another day or group of days.
9. Confirm copies using the provided options, then return to the Modify menu by selecting 'Edit More Days' or return to the Home screen by selecting 'Save and Exit'.
Heat Blast® (If Installed)
Heat Blast® raises the room temperature by 3°F to 5°F (based on installer settings) before resuming normal operation. To activate, select 'Heat Blast' from the Menu and set the toggle to ON. This feature is only available if enabled in Installer Setup and the thermostat is in Heat or Emergency Heat mode. To cancel, select 'Heat Blast' from the Menu and set the toggle to OFF.
Program Schedule Holds
Temporary Hold
Press [⬆️] or [⬇️] to immediately adjust the temperature. This temporarily holds the setting until the next scheduled event. A temporary hold can also be set from the 'Hold' option in the Menu, where the end time can be adjusted. The hold can be canceled from the 'Hold' option in the Menu or by adjusting the temperature back to the scheduled setting.
Vacation
This energy-saving feature suspends the programmed schedule for an extended period. The selected temperature and dehumidification setpoint (if applicable) are maintained until the vacation hold end date and time. The programmed schedule resumes automatically. If you return early, turn off the Vacation hold via the 'Vacation' option in the Menu.
