Safety Information

General Safety Precautions

CAUTION: Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in minor or moderate injury or in property damage.

General Warnings:

  • Minor electric shock, fire, or Product failure may occasionally occur. Do not disassemble, modify, or repair the Product or touch the interior of the Product.
  • Minor burns may occasionally occur. Do not touch the Product while power is being supplied or immediately after power is turned OFF.
  • Minor fires may occasionally occur. Tighten terminal screws to the specified torque (M3.5 screws: 6.55 to 10.00 lb-in (0.74 to 1.13 N•m), M4 screws: 9.56 to 11.68 lb-in (1.08 to 1.32 N•m)).
  • Minor injury due to electric shock may occasionally occur. Do not touch the terminals while power is being supplied. Always close the terminal cover after wiring. Working voltage can be 370 V max. inside. This voltage can be also available 30s after the switch off.
  • Do not allow any pieces of metal or conductors or any clippings or cuttings resulting from installation work to enter the Product.

Environmental and Installation Precautions

Installation and Storage Environment

Storage: Store the Product at a temperature of −25 to 75°C and a humidity of 90% or less.

Installation Environment:

  • Ensure proper heat dissipation for long-term reliability.
  • Models S8FS-G015 to S8FS-G150 are cooled by natural convection; ensure adequate air circulation.
  • Models S8FS-G300 and S8FS-G600 are cooled by forced airflow; do not block ventilation holes.
  • Do not use the Product beyond the derating curve range. Refer to the Product catalog for derating curves.
  • Use at a humidity of 90% or less.
  • Avoid direct sunlight.
  • Avoid places with liquid penetration, foreign substances, or corrosive gas.
  • Avoid places subject to shock or vibration. Keep away from vibration sources like contact breakers.
  • If used in areas with excessive electronic noise, separate the Power Supply from noise sources.
  • Do not loosen screws on the Power Supply to prevent internal part damage due to poor heat radiation.

Installation and Wiring

Grounding: Connect the ground completely using the protective earthing terminal [ground symbol]. Failure to do so may cause electric shock or malfunction.

Wiring: Ensure input and output terminals are wired correctly to prevent fire hazards. Use specified wiring materials to prevent smoking or ignition from abnormal loads.

Terminal Current Ratings:

  • S8FS-G015 to S8FS-G300: 20 A per terminal.
  • S8FS-G600: 30 A per terminal.
  • If current exceeds rating, use two terminals simultaneously.

Clearance and Creepage Distances:

  • Between L, N, FG terminals and metal case: 6.4 mm min.
  • Between +V, -V, FG terminals and metal case: 3.2 mm min.

Terminal Block Tightening: Do not apply more than 150 N force to the terminal block.

Preparation: Remove protective sheets before power-on.

Specific Safety Standards

Use Environment: Pollution degree 2.

Isolation: DC output terminals are electrically isolated from input terminals.

Overvoltage Categories: Category III (≤ 2,000 m), Category II (2,000 m < and ≤ 3,000 m).

Protection Class: Class I.

Climatic Class: 3K3.

Applicable Standards: EN50178, UL62368-1, EN62368-1 (Category II), EN61558-2-16, IEC61558-2-16, EN/IEC60204-1.

DC Input Safety: Standards apply for DC input with specified voltages (120 to 320 VDC). Use appropriate fast-acting fuses on the positive (L) side.

DC Input Fuse Recommendations:

  • S8FS-G015/030: 320 VDC min., 3A
  • S8FS-G050: 320 VDC min., 4A
  • S8FS-G100: 320 VDC min., 8A
  • S8FS-G150: 320 VDC min., 10A
  • S8FS-G300: 320 VDC min., 12A
  • S8FS-G600: 320 VDC min., 20A

Product Features and Operation

Mounting

Standard Mounting

Mounting Panel: Metal plate is recommended.

Screw Holes: Ensure screws do not protrude more than 3 mm inside the Power Supply. Refer to datasheet for longer screws.

Mounting Torque:

Screw Size Torque
M3 screws 0.48 to 0.59 N·m
M4 screws 1.08 to 1.32 N·m

Standard Mounting on DIN Rail

Clearances: Minimum 20 mm clearance required on sides and top/bottom (30 mm min. for some configurations as per diagrams).

Diagram Description: Figure 2 shows standard mounting, indicating clearances. Figure 3 shows standard mounting on a DIN rail, also indicating required clearances.

Output Voltage Adjustment

Default Setting: Rated voltage.

Adjustable Range: -10% to +15% of rated output voltage using the V.ADJ adjuster (⑨).

Adjustment: Clockwise increases voltage, counterclockwise decreases voltage.

Note: Output voltage may exceed the +15% range. Verify output voltage and ensure the load is not destroyed during adjustment.

Input Voltage Tolerance

Rating: 100 to 240 VAC.

Mains Supply Tolerance: -10% to +10% (90 to 264 VAC).

Parallel Operation

This Power Supply is not designed for parallel operation. Attempting parallel operation may damage internal parts. Parallel operation is possible with optional models (e.g., S8FS-G60024-W).

Built-in Fan

(For S8FS-G300, S8FS-G600): The built-in fan cannot be replaced.

Tests

Dielectric Strength Test

Rating: 3,000 VAC for 1 minute between input and output terminals.

Test Condition: Cutoff current set to 20 mA. Ensure output terminals are short-circuited during the test.

Insulation Resistance Test

Use a DC ohmmeter at 500 VDC. Ensure output terminals are short-circuited during the test.

Protection Functions

Overload Protection

Automatically protects the load and product from overcurrent. Normal operation resumes when current returns to the rated range. Notes: Avoid continuous short-circuit or overload conditions, as they may damage internal parts. Do not use for applications with frequent inrush current or load-end overloading.

Overvoltage Protection

Automatically protects the product and load from overvoltage. Activated when output voltage exceeds approx. 120% of rated output voltage. To reset, turn off power for at least 3 minutes, then turn it back on. Ensure the cause of overvoltage is cleared before resetting.

Overheat Protection (S8FS-G300, S8FS-G600)

Protects internal components if internal temperature rises excessively (e.g., due to fan failure). To reset, turn off input power for at least three minutes, then turn it back on.

Conformance to EU Directives

Refer to the catalog and manual for EMC compliance operating conditions. Note: Using S8FS-G150 at 80% or more of rated load may not meet harmonics standards. Do not connect to public power sources under these conditions.
