Safety Precautions
PLEASE READ ALL instructions completely before attempting to install or operate the unit. Pay close attention to DANGER, WARNING, and CAUTION information for safe and efficient operation.
- DANGER: Indicates a hazard that WILL result in serious injury or death if precautions are not followed.
- WARNING: Indicates a hazard MAY cause serious injury or death if precautions are not followed.
- CAUTION: Indicates a hazard where minor injury or product damage may occur if precautions are not followed.
- NOTICE: Indicates that property damage may occur if warnings or instructions are not followed.
IMPORTANT! Read and understand all information in this manual before installation. All plumbing and electrical work must be performed by a qualified technician, conforming to all applicable state and local codes.
Preparing the Cabinet
Refrigerant (R290 - Propane)
All Perlick Glass Frosters use R290 (Propane) refrigerant, a hydrocarbon. R290 is flammable and requires appliances to meet UL 471 standards. R290 is heavier than air and its concentration is highest at floor level.
Explosion Limits: Lower Limit: 1.7% by vol. (37 g/m³), Upper Limit: 9.5% by vol. (177 g/m³), Ignition Temperature: 470 °C.
DANGER: Take caution when handling, moving, and using the product to avoid damaging the refrigerant tubing or increasing the risk of a leak.
WARNING: All service work must be performed by factory-authorized personnel. Component parts must be replaced with identical parts to minimize ignition risk from incorrect parts or improper service.
CAUTION: If service is necessary, repair work must be performed by a Perlick authorized servicer. Work by unqualified individuals can be dangerous and will void the warranty.
Uncrating and Inspection
Remove all crating material. Carefully inspect the cabinet for hidden damage. If damage is discovered, file a claim immediately with the transport company. Perlick is not responsible for transit damage.
NOTICE: This product contains blown foam insulation using blowing agent R-611 (Methyl Formate). The foam does not contain HFC's, CFC's, or HCFC's.
Plumbing
No plumbing connections are required. Condensate from the cooling coil evaporates automatically through a condensate pan in the condensing unit section.
Electrical
The cabinet must be connected to a separately fused power source, in accordance with National and Local electrical codes. Refer to the Electrical Specification Plate affixed to the unit.
CAUTION: Do not attempt to operate the equipment on any other power source than that listed on the Electrical Specification Plate.
Adjustable Partitions & Shelving
Perlick Glass Frosters may include adjustable partitions and shelving to accommodate various bottle sizes.
- When placing glasses, ensure proper air flow between them.
- When loading product, avoid blocking airflow into and out of the evaporator. Maintain at least 2 inches of clearance on the evaporator air intake and exhaust for proper operation.
Installing Casters or Legs (Optional)
Attach casters or legs to the cabinet bottom using the provided holes and 1/4" - 20 hex head self-tapping machine screws. If the unit is tipped on its back for an extended period, wait 24 hours after uprighting before plugging it in.
Placing the Cabinet
To ensure maximum performance, allow fresh air circulation through the machinery compartment. Maintain at least two inches of clearance at the back or left end of the cabinet. Do not place anything in front of the cabinet that obstructs airflow at the grilles. Do not place the unit in an unventilated small room.
CAUTION: Removing factory-installed back clearance spacers without providing proper left side grill clearance for compressor airflow will void the warranty.
Diagram: Illustrates sealing the cabinet base to the floor with silicone sealant.
How to Operate
Cabinet Leveling
The cabinet should be leveled. For sanitation, sealing the base to the floor with silicone sealant may be necessary.
Temperature Control
A digital temperature control is located on the front face of the froster, above the condensing unit housing. It is factory set at approximately 0°F for standard refrigeration.
To adjust temperature: Press the 'SET' key to display the set point. Use the up (▲) and down (▼) keys within 15 seconds to change the value. Press 'SET' again to confirm.
The condenser fan motor operates with the compressor. The evaporator fan motor runs continuously.
Image: Digital temperature controller showing temperature display and control buttons.
Defrosting The System
The system features both a six-hour manual defrost cycle and a four-hour automatic defrost cycle.
Six Hour Manual Defrost
This cycle shuts off the condensing unit, door frame heater, evaporator heater, and the automatic defrost timer, while powering the evaporator fan. To activate, press and hold the defrost switch (located next to the controller) for 3 seconds. The controller will display a fan icon and "def". To cancel, momentarily turn off the unit's electricity.
Image: Controller display showing "def" and a fan icon, indicating manual defrost.
Four Hour Defrost Timer (Automatic)
This automatic cycle prevents frost buildup on the evaporator coil. Every four hours, it shuts down the condensing unit, box frame heater, and evaporator fan, and powers the defrost element. The controller will display a snowflake icon and "def" during this cycle.
Image: Controller display showing "def" and a snowflake icon, indicating automatic defrost.
To manually initiate the automatic defrost cycle, press and hold the up or down arrows. The cycle lasts approximately 20 minutes, followed by a 2-minute drip time (evaporator fan off). After completion, the unit resumes cooling, displaying a snowflake and fan icon, with "def" remaining until the set point is reached.
Images: Controller display showing "def" and a snowflake icon, indicating automatic defrost completion; Controller display showing snowflake and fan icon during normal cooling after defrost.
During normal operation, avoid leaving doors open to prevent excessive frost buildup.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Cleaning the Condenser
DANGER: Flammable Refrigerant. Risk of fire or explosion. Do not damage refrigeration tubes.
The condenser, located behind the front grille, should be inspected and cleaned every 30 days. Failure to keep it clean reduces efficiency and can cause compressor failure.
Cleaning the Doors
Periodically remove doors to inspect for buildup of foreign materials (syrups, beer, etc.). Buildup on door undersides or cabinet breaker strips can cause binding. Clean these surfaces with mild detergent and water, then coat with an NSF-certified silicone lubricating material.
To remove doors: With the door closed, lift upward by the handle and slide forward until it clears the cabinet top. Reverse procedure to reinstall.
Cleaning the Cabinets
Use a damp cloth with mild detergent and water to clean the inside and outside. Dry thoroughly. Avoid letting cleaning agents or excess water go down the drain. Use an acceptable stainless steel polish for stainless steel surfaces. Never use steel wool or scouring pads on stainless steel.
Avoiding Stainless Steel Corrosion
Prevent corrosion by following product cautions and cleaning instructions. Avoid chemicals and objects that can cause stainless steel corrosion.
Stainless Steel Enemies:
- Steel wool or steel scouring pads
- Cherry/Orange/Olive juice
- Chlorine Bleach
- Sharp Objects
