Bosch SBH4ECX21E Dishwasher: Quick Reference Guide

Getting Started

Setting up Home Connect

Connect your appliance to a mobile device for convenient control via the Home Connect app.

  1. Install the Home Connect app on your mobile device and follow the instructions.
  2. Scan the QR code with the Home Connect app. [QR code for Home Connect app]

Water Hardness Settings

Select the appropriate water hardness setting for your appliance. A table of country-specific units can be found in the full instruction manual.

Setting the Water Softening System

Adjust the water softening system to match your water hardness.

  1. Press the main power button.
  2. To open basic settings, press and hold the Setup button for 3 seconds. The display will show "Hxx".
  3. Press the Start button repeatedly until the correct water hardness setting is displayed.
  4. To save the settings, press and hold the Setup button for 3 seconds.

Adding Special Salt

To prevent appliance damage, add special salt to the dispenser just before starting a programme.

  1. Unscrew and remove the lid of the special salt dispenser.
  2. On initial start-up: Fill the dispenser completely with water.
  3. Add special salt to the dispenser. The water will be displaced. Never add detergent.
  4. Replace the lid and turn to close.

Adding Rinse Aid

Ensure rinse aid is added for optimal drying results.

  1. Press the catch on the lid of the rinse aid dispenser and lift the lid. [rinse aid dispenser]
  2. Add rinse aid up to the maximum mark.
  3. Close the lid. The lid will click into position.

Adding Detergent

Use the detergent dispenser for adding detergent.

  1. Add detergent to the dry detergent dispenser. [detergent dispenser]
  2. Close the lid of the detergent dispenser. The lid will click into position.

Programmes Overview

Programme data measured according to EN 60436. Consumption figures vary based on selected programme and functions. Running time may change if rinse aid system is off or needs refilling.

Note: The "Favourite" programme is suitable for running at night; it takes longer, but is extremely quiet.

How to Use Your Appliance

  1. Load tableware. Only use dishwasher-safe items. Remove large food remnants. Ensure spray arms can rotate freely.
  2. Add detergent.
  3. Switch on the appliance.
  4. Select the programme.
  5. Start the programme.
  6. Remove tableware at the end of the programme.
  7. To cancel the programme, press and hold the Reset button for approximately 4 seconds. The programme will cancel and end within about 1 minute.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Cleaning Filters

Check filters for residue after each wash.

  1. Turn the coarse filter anticlockwise and remove the filter system. [Filter system component 2]
  2. Pull down the micro filter to remove. [Micro filter component]
  3. Press the locking catches together and lift the coarse filter out. [Coarse filter component]
  4. Clean all filter elements under running water.
  5. Re-assemble the filter system.
  6. Insert the filter system into the appliance and turn the coarse filter clockwise, ensuring arrow markings align.

Cleaning Spray Arms

  1. Unscrew and pull down the upper spray arm to remove. [Upper spray arm]
  2. Pull up the lower spray arm to remove. [Lower spray arm]
  3. Check spray arm nozzles for blockages under running water and remove foreign bodies.
  4. Insert the lower spray arm; it will click into position.
  5. Insert the upper spray arm and screw it firmly in place.

Cleaning Wastewater Pump

  1. Disconnect the appliance from the power supply.
  2. Remove the filter system.
  3. Scoop out any remaining water.
  4. Use a spoon to prise off the pump cover and grip it by the crosspiece. [Pump cover]
  5. Lift the pump cover inwards at an angle and remove.
  6. Remove any food remnants or foreign bodies from the impeller area.
  7. Insert the pump cover and press down until it clicks into position. [Pump cover component]
  8. Install the filter system.

Troubleshooting

Refer to the table below for common faults and their solutions.

FaultCause and Troubleshooting
E:32-00 will light up alternately or indicator for water supply lights up.
  • Supply hose is kinked. Install the supply hose without kinks.
  • Water tap is turned off. Turn on the water tap.
  • Water tap is jammed or furred up. Turn on the water tap.
  • The flow rate must be at least 10 l/min when the water supply is open.
  • Filters in the water connection are blocked.
    • Switch off the appliance.
    • Pull out the mains plug.
    • Turn off the water tap.
    • Unscrew the water connection.
    • Remove the filter from the supply hose.
    • Clean the filter.
    • Re-insert the filter in the supply hose.
    • Screw the water connection back on.
    • Check for leaks.
    • Restore power supply.
    • Switch the appliance on.
E:61-02 will light up alternately.
  • Wastewater pump is blocked. Clean the wastewater pump.
  • Cover of the wastewater pump is loose. Secure the cover so it clicks into position.
E:92-40 will light up alternately.
  • Filters are soiled or blocked. Clean the filters.
  • Filters are inserted incorrectly or not engaged. Insert and engage filters properly.
Remnants of food on tableware.
  • Tableware is placed too close together or basket is overfilled. Arrange tableware with sufficient space so spray jets can reach surfaces. Avoid points of contact.
  • Spray arm rotation is blocked. Arrange tableware to not obstruct spray arm rotation.
  • Spray arm nozzles are blocked. Clean the spray arms.
  • Filters are soiled. Clean the filters.
  • Washing programme selected too weak. Select a more intensive washing programme.
Removable streaks are present on glasses, glassware with a metallic appearance and cutlery.
  • Amount of rinse aid dispensed is set too high. Set the rinse aid system to a lower setting.
  • No rinse aid has been added. Add rinse aid.
Rust spots on cutlery.
  • Cutlery is not sufficiently rust-resistant (e.g., knife blades). Use rust-resistant tableware.
  • Cutlery may also rust if washed with rusting items. Do not wash rusting items together.
Detergent residue is present in the detergent dispenser or the tablet collecting tray.
  • Spray arms were blocked by tableware, preventing detergent from being rinsed out. Check that spray arms are not blocked and can rotate freely.
All LEDs light up or flash, or the rinse programme does not continue running.
  • Electronics have detected a fault. Press and hold the main switch button for approximately 4 seconds to reset and restart the appliance.
