917-327 Transmission Dipstick Tool
Before You Begin
- Always wear proper safety equipment when performing repairs.
- Ensure this part fits your exact vehicle year, make, model, and configuration. You can verify at your point of purchase using the part number on the box, or using the part number above at DormanProducts.com.
- Reference the appropriate service manual for your vehicle. If you do not have a service manual, and do not have the training or experience to perform the necessary procedures correctly, seek the services of a qualified technician.
Tool Purpose
This tool enables the user to check transmission fluid level.
Installation and Usage Steps
Step 1: Prepare the Vehicle
Verify that the vehicle is parked on a level surface.
Step 2: Access the Dipstick Tube
Remove the dipstick tube cap.
Step 3: Start the Engine
Engage the parking brake. Start the engine and let it idle with the gear selector in the park position.
Step 4: Cycle Through Gears
Shift the transmission lever through the gears several times with the vehicle stationary and engine idling.
Step 5: Check Fluid Level
Bring the vehicle up to operating temperature and check fluid level with the engine idling. Push the dipstick into the transmission fill tube until it bottoms out against the transmission pan and pull out to read the fluid level. Note: The dipstick will protrude from the fill tube when installed.
Step 6: Measure Fluid Temperature
Check transmission fluid temperature using a scan tool. Accurate transmission fluid temperature can only be obtained by using a scan tool with the transmission lever in reverse or any forward gear position.
Step 7: Read the Dipstick
The transmission dipstick has level indicator lines every 10mm. Check the fluid level on the dipstick; determine the proper fluid level using the correct fluid level chart for your vehicle.
Step 8: Adjust Fluid Level
Adjust fluid level as necessary and recheck the level.
Step 9: Finalize
Install the dipstick tube cap after checking the fluid level.

Fluid Level Charts
The following charts provide guidance on the correct transmission fluid level based on fluid temperature. Refer to the appropriate chart for your vehicle's transmission type.
Chart A: Nag 1 Transmission Fluid Level
This chart displays the relationship between fluid temperature (F) on the X-axis and fluid level (mm) on the Y-axis for Nag 1 transmissions. It includes lines indicating minimum fill, maximum fill, and a target level, along with min/max indicators for reference.
Chart B: CVT Transmission Fluid Level
This chart displays the relationship between fluid temperature (F) on the X-axis and fluid level (mm) on the Y-axis for CVT transmissions. It includes lines indicating minimum fill and maximum fill levels.
Chart C: 62TE Transmission Fluid Level
This chart displays the relationship between fluid temperature (F) on the X-axis and fluid level (mm) on the Y-axis for 62TE transmissions. It includes lines indicating minimum fill and maximum fill levels, along with min/max indicators.
Chart D: 42RLE Transmission Fluid Level
This chart displays the relationship between fluid temperature (F) on the X-axis and fluid level (mm) on the Y-axis for 42RLE transmissions. It includes lines indicating minimum fill and maximum fill levels, along with min/max and target indicators.
