Mechanical Structures and Installations
The D24 decoder features a compact design suitable for installation racks. Key components include:
- DMX Input/Output: Terminals for DMX signal connection.
- Power Input: Terminals for connecting the power supply.
- LED Indicator: Visual status indicator.
- Digital Display: Shows DMX address and settings.
- Installation Rack: Designed for mounting.
- Outputs: Multiple RGB LED outputs (1-4 and 5-8).
Physical dimensions are approximately 45mm, 160mm, 48mm, 60mm, 35mm, 35.5mm, 77mm, 88mm, and 149mm, indicating the overall size and component spacing.
Guide rail mounting is supported using TS-35/7.5 or TS-35/15 guide rails.
Wiring Diagram Description:
- Connect a DMX Master to the DMX IN terminals.
- The DMX OUT terminals can be used for daisy-chaining or connecting to a signal amplifier.
- Connect a 12-24VDC constant voltage power supply to the POWER INPUT terminals.
- The decoder outputs power to four sets of RGB LED strips via the POWER OUTPUT terminals, labeled for +RGB, +RGI, +RGB, +RGB.
Notes on Wiring:
- An DMX signal amplifier is recommended if more than 32 decoders are connected or if using an overlong signal line. Signal amplification should not exceed 5 times continuously.
- If signal line issues (e.g., recoil effect) occur due to long lines or poor quality, connect a 0.25W 90-120Ω terminal resistor at the end of each line.
Operation
System Parameter Setting
Press and hold the 'M' and '◀' keys for 2 seconds to enter system parameter setup. Use the 'M' key to cycle through six items: decode mode, grey level, output PWM frequency, output brightness curve, default output level, and automatic blank screen. Use '◀' or '▶' keys to adjust settings.
- Decode Mode: Switch between 1-channel ('d-01'), 3-channel ('d-03'), 6-channel ('d-06'), or 24-channel ('d-24') decode. In 1-channel decode, all 24 channels output the same brightness based on the DMX address.
- Grey Level: Select 8-bit ('b-08') or 16-bit ('b-16') grey level. 16-bit is recommended if the DMX master supports it.
- Output PWM Frequency: Select from 500Hz ('F05'), 1000Hz ('F010'), 2000Hz ('F020'), 4000Hz ('F040'), 8000Hz ('F080'), 16000Hz ('F160'), or 32000Hz ('F320'). Higher frequencies reduce output current and power noise but are better for video (no flicker). Note: Current per channel needs reduction for frequencies > 8000Hz (e.g., 24x2A@12-24V at 16000Hz or 32000Hz).
- Output Brightness Curve: Select linear ('C--L') or logarithmic ('C--E') curve.
- Default Output Level: Set output level when no DMX signal is present. Options include maintaining DMX output ('d- -') or setting a default level ('d00' to 'dFF', 0-100%). Long press '◀' or '▶' to change the default level.
- Automatic Blank Screen: Enable ('bon') or disable ('boFF') blanking when no signal.
Exit parameter setting by pressing 'M' for 2 seconds or after a 10-second timeout. Parameters can also be set via RDM function.
DMX Mode
Short press 'M' key when the display shows 'A001' to 'A512' to enter DMX mode. Use '◀' or '▶' keys to change the DMX decode start address (001-512), with long press for faster adjustment. The decoder automatically enters DMX mode if a DMX signal is present.
DMX Dimming: Each D24 decoder uses 24 DMX addresses. The mapping is as follows:
DMX Console | DMX Decoder Output |
---|---|
CH1 (0-255) | CH1 PWM 0-100% (LED 1#R) |
CH2 (0-255) | CH2 PWM 0-100% (LED 1#G) |
CH3 (0-255) | CH3 PWM 0-100% (LED 1#B) |
... | ... |
CH24 (0-255) | CH24 PWM 0-100% (LED 8#B) |
Stand-alone RGB Mode
Short press 'M' key when the display shows 'P--1' to 'P--4' to enter stand-alone RGB mode. Use '◀' or '▶' keys to select dynamic mode number (P--1 to P--4). Each mode allows adjustment of speed and brightness.
To set speed and brightness: Long press 'M' for 2 seconds, then short press 'M' to switch between speed and brightness. Use '◀' or '▶' to set values. Speed levels range from 1-10 (SP-1 to SP-9, SP-F). Brightness levels range from 1-10 (br-1 to br-9, br-F). Exit setting by pressing 'M' for 2 seconds or after a 10-second timeout.
This mode is active only when the DMX signal is disconnected or lost.
RGB Change Mode List:
No. | Name | Speed (8 level) | Brightness (10 level, 100%) |
---|---|---|---|
P--1 | White forward jump chase | ||
P--2 | White forward smooth float | ||
P--3 | Red, yellow, green, cyan, blue, purple forward jump chase | ||
P--4 | Red, yellow, green, cyan, blue, purple forward smooth float |
Stand-alone Dimmer Mode
Short press 'M' key when the display shows 'L--1' to 'L--8' to enter stand-alone dimmer mode. Use '◀' or '▶' keys to select dimmer mode number (L--1 to L--8). Each mode allows independent adjustment of each channel's brightness.
To set channel brightness: Long press 'M' for 2 seconds. Short press 'M' to switch between the 24 channels (e.g., 0100~01FF for channel 1, 0200~02FF for channel 2, up to 2400~24FF for channel 24). Use '◀' or '▶' to set the brightness value for each channel. Exit setting by pressing 'M' for 2 seconds or after a 10-second timeout.
This mode is active only when the DMX signal is disconnected or lost.
Restore Factory Default Parameter
Press and hold both '◀' and '▶' keys for 2 seconds to restore factory default parameters. The display will show 'RES'. Factory default settings include: DMX decode mode, DMX decode start address 1, 24-channel decode, 8-bit grey level, 2000Hz PWM frequency, logarithmic brightness curve, 100% output level with no DMX input, RGB mode 1, dimmer mode 1, and automatic blank screen disabled.
Dimming Curve Setting
The device supports two types of dimming curves:
- Linear Dimming Curve: A straight line graph showing PWM duty (%) against Brightness (%). This represents a direct, proportional relationship (Gamma=1.0).
- Logarithmic Dimming Curve: A curved line graph showing PWM duty (%) against Brightness (%). This provides a smoother, more natural dimming effect, often perceived as more human-friendly (Gamma=1.6).
