What is temi?
temi is the ultimate robotic assistant with “Alexa” built-in, connecting you to your smart home devices, friends and contacts, online content, and video communications, all harnessed by the power of your voice. temi's core elements are AI, Video, and Mobility.
AI: temi's artificial intelligence enables users to ask questions, order services, run applications, take photographs, etc. temi is delivered with built-in applications including Knowledge, News, Weather, YouTube, Yelp, Camera (stills, videos, GIFs), Video calls, and Bluetooth.
Hands-free Video Calls: Featuring user-tracking technology and autonomous navigation, temi offers a new video calling experience. Users can prompt temi to follow them for hands-free face-to-face communication. Remotely, users can drive temi manually or to preset locations via the temi app, with temi automatically avoiding obstacles.
Mobility: Using 16 sensors and a dedicated CPU, temi maps its surroundings, distinguishing between obstacles, furniture, and people. This ensures temi does not come into contact with objects and enables convenient navigation. temi cannot avoid obstacles that are completely black or under 4 inches tall.
Getting Started
Unboxing temi
The unboxing process involves opening the temi box, removing styrofoam, and taking out temi and its Home Base. It is recommended to save the box for travel or future service purposes.
Diagram Description: The unboxing diagram shows temi in its packaging. Step 1: Open the box by pulling a green tab, revealing quick start cards. Step 2: Remove styrofoam by its handle. Step 3: Lift temi by highlighted areas. Step 4: Take out the Home Base from a compartment behind temi.
Setting up Home Base
The Home Base is where temi charges and recovers its map and locations. It connects to a power outlet via a power adapter.
Setup Instructions:
- Place the Home Base in a location easily accessed by temi.
- Place it on a hard, level surface, flat against the wall.
- Allow at least 1.5 feet of space on either side of the Home Base.
- Keep at least 4 feet of clear space in front of the Home Base for easy access.
Important Note: The Home Base should be placed at least 6 feet from any stairs, steep drops, ledges, and slopes.
? TIP: Ensure no highly reflective materials (like mirrors) are nearby, as they can interfere with docking sensors. The Home Base acts as temi's map anchor; moving it will prompt map and location resetting.
Diagram Description: The diagram illustrates the Home Base placement with required clearances: 1.5 ft on sides, 4 ft in front, and a warning to keep 6 ft away from stairs/drops.
Powering temi
To turn on temi: Press the power button; the LED indicator will light up.
To turn off temi: Press and hold the power button for 3 seconds until the LED indicator shuts off.
When not in use, temi automatically enters standby mode, eliminating the need to power it off.
Diagram Description: A diagram shows a finger pressing the power button on temi's head.
Power Management
A fully charged temi can operate for approximately 8 hours on average. When the battery is low, temi displays an alert with an option to return to its Home Base. The battery icon indicates the charging state.
Power Save Mode: To conserve power, temi's LIDAR stops spinning when it is not moving for more than 5 seconds. When initiating follow mode, the LIDAR requires 3-4 seconds to resume spinning.
Diagram Description: A diagram shows temi docked on its Home Base, charging.
Activation and Setup
Activating temi with Mobile App
The mobile app allows remote calling and control, contact syncing, and viewing of recent activity. Download the app from the Play or App Store or via http://www.robotemi.com/temiapp.
Activation Process: Each temi requires activation and registration on the temi server to verify it is a real temi with an Admin user. This is done during initial setup using both the robot and the mobile app.
- temi generates and displays a QR code containing its ID information.
- In the app, navigate to the "Temi Activation" screen and press "Scan QR".
- Follow the on-screen instructions to scan the QR code.
- Confirmation will be received upon successful scanning.
- To activate temi anytime after registration, use the "Scan QR" tab.
Diagram Description: Screenshots illustrate the QR code displayed on temi's screen (Image A), the "Temi Activation" screen in the app with a "Scan QR" button (Image B), and a confirmation screen (Image C).
? TIP: temi is restricted to one admin. Refer to User Management for more details.
Setting up Alexa
temi integrates with Alexa, enabling voice control for smart home devices, ordering services, accessing news, weather, and more.
Setup Steps:
- During initial activation, choose Alexa as the voice assistant. This can also be accessed via Settings > Personal Assistant.
- Click "Connect Alexa" to receive a confirmation code.
- On your desktop or mobile device, log in to Amazon.com/code and input the displayed code.
- Alexa will then be ready to use on temi.
Switching Assistants: Users can choose between "Alexa", "Hey, temi", or "Alexa & Hey, temi" (recommended). The "Alexa & Hey, temi" option allows "Hey, temi" for robot control (movement, locations, camera, apps) and "Alexa" for connected devices and other Alexa commands.
? TIP: When using Alexa, camera, locations, and video calls are initially controlled manually via the screen. Voice command enablement for these actions will be available soon.
Diagram Description: Screenshots show the process of connecting Alexa: selecting Alexa as the assistant, clicking "Connect Alexa" to get a code, logging into Amazon.com/code, and a confirmation message.
