Getting Started
myPhonak is an app developed by Sonova, a world leader in hearing solutions based in Zurich, Switzerland. Read the user instructions thoroughly to benefit from all the possibilities it offers.
? This user guide describes the features of myPhonak, and how those features can be operated by the user. Read this user guide through, before starting to use the app.
Additional training is not needed for handling of the app.
Compatibility Information:
- For the use of the myPhonak app, Phonak hearing aids with Bluetooth® connectivity are required.
- myPhonak can be used on Phones with Bluetooth® low energy (LE) capability running on iOS® Version 15 or newer.
- myPhonak can be used on Google Mobile Services (GMS) certified Android™ devices supporting Bluetooth® 4.2 and Android OS 8.0 and newer.

Quick Overview
Remote Control View
This screen allows users to control their hearing aids. It displays the current program (e.g., Automatic, TV, Music), the battery status for rechargeable hearing aids, and volume controls for the left and right hearing aids. Users can adjust the volume for both aids simultaneously or split the volume to adjust each independently. A mute button is also available. The program carousel allows users to switch between different sound programs. Advanced settings for sound adjustments are accessible via an "Adjust program" button.
Remote Support View
This screen facilitates video calls with a hearing care professional. It shows the connection status of hearing aids, the professional's video feed, and the user's own video. Controls are available to mute/unmute the microphone, disable video, switch cameras, and end the call. Users can tap the screen to show or hide these controls.
Installing myPhonak
To install and set up the myPhonak app:
- Connect your smartphone to the internet via WiFi or cellular data.
- Turn on your smartphone's Bluetooth®.
Download and Open: Download the app from your device's app store. After installation, open the app. On the first launch, you can choose to take a tour or skip it.
Create an Account: Optionally, create a myPhonak account. This is mandatory for accessing health features. If you already have an account, you can log in.
Privacy Policy: To use the app, you must read and accept the Privacy Notice and Terms & Conditions by checking the box and proceeding.
Product Improvement: You can choose to share app usage data to help improve Phonak products and the app experience. Your data is handled according to the privacy notice.
Setting Up an Account with myPhonak
Creating a myPhonak account provides benefits such as health data tracking and secure storage of your health data.
The process involves:
- Sign up with email: Enter your email address.
- Set your password: Create a secure password of at least 8 characters.
- Select your country or region: Choose your country for secure data storage based on local regulations.
- Verification email: You will receive a confirmation code via email. Enter this code in the app to verify your email address.
Troubleshooting Account Set-up
If you encounter issues during account setup:
- Email already in use: If the email is already associated with a Phonak account, you will receive instructions. You can either use a different email or log in with the existing one.
- No internet connection: Ensure your smartphone is connected to the internet.
- Reset password: If you forget your password, enter your email and tap 'Send' to receive a password reset link.
- Expired confirmation code: Confirmation codes are valid for seven days. If expired, request a new one.
- Invalid confirmation code: Double-check the code or request a new one if entered incorrectly.
Pairing with Phonak Hearing Aids
To connect your Bluetooth® enabled hearing aids with the myPhonak app:
- Tap 'Let's get started' on the initial pairing screen.
- The app will search for compatible hearing aids. Once detected, tap on the device you wish to connect.
- The app will connect to each hearing aid separately.
- On Apple devices, confirm the Bluetooth pairing request by tapping 'Pair' for each device.
- After successful pairing, you can optionally set up additional functions for calls and streaming. Tap 'Continue' to skip this step if desired.
Troubleshooting Pairing: If pairing fails, ensure devices are compatible, check for connection errors, or try restarting the pairing process. For Android devices, location services may need to be enabled during the initial Bluetooth pairing.
Home - Remote Control View
The Remote Control view offers several functionalities for your hearing aids:
- Adjust Hearing Aid Volume: Use the slider to increase or decrease volume. For two hearing aids, this slider controls both simultaneously.
- Split the Volume: Tap the 'Split' icon to adjust the volume of each hearing aid independently.
- Mute: Tap the 'Mute' icon to mute the hearing aid(s).
- Accessing Programs: Swipe through the program carousel to select and activate sound programs (e.g., Automatic, custom programs).
More Settings: Depending on your hearing aids and accessories, you can adjust settings like Tinnitus noiser and Ambient balance, especially during streaming. The battery level for rechargeable hearing aids is also displayed.
Home - Remote Control Advanced Settings
This section allows for finer adjustments to your hearing aid programs:
- Adjust Program: Tap 'Adjust program' to access advanced sound settings.
- Program Settings: Use sliders to adjust equalizer presets, volume, noise reduction, speech focus, and dynamic control.
- Equalizer Presets: Choose from presets like 'Default', 'Comfort', or 'Clarity' for quick sound pitch adjustments.
- Adjusting Sound Pitch: Manually adjust the sound pitch (frequency) using sliders for Bass, Middle, and Treble.
Create or Update Programs: You can save personalized adjustments as a new program or update an existing one. This involves naming the program and saving it. Invalid program names (e.g., empty, too long, or only whitespaces) will be rejected.
Remote Control Advanced Settings - Troubleshooting
Program Limit Reached:
- Max Same Base Program: You can save up to four programs based on the same base program. If the limit is reached, you can replace an existing program by tapping 'Manage'.
- Max Program Number: You can save a maximum of ten personalized programs in total. If the limit is reached, you can replace an existing program by tapping 'Manage'.
Health
Some health features are available only with certain hearing aids. Refer to phonak.com for more information.
Setting Up Health Features:
- Sign Up: Access health features by signing up with your myPhonak account.
- Enable Location Services: Allow location access for improved health data tracking and synchronization. Without it, health data tracking may not be possible.
- Enter Health Dashboard: Once setup is complete, you can access the health dashboard.
The health dashboard displays data such as wearing time, daily steps, and heart rate. Goal progress is visualized with circles around feature icons. Connection to hearing aids is required for live data updates.
Health Data Views: Detailed views show wearing time, steps, activity levels (low, medium, high movement), and distance walked/ran. Heart rate tracking includes live HR, resting heart rate (RHR), and hourly ranges.
Other Functionalities: Users can set, change, and remove goals for steps and wearing time. Tooltips on graphs provide exact values.

Devices
The Devices section provides access to all information related to your hearing aids:
- Devices Home Screen: View battery status for rechargeable models and access program management and device settings.
- Forget Devices: Remove paired hearing aids. You will need to re-pair them to use the app again.
- Program Management: View, edit, or delete available programs (automatic, professional-created, personalized). Programs linked to the push button of your hearing aids are indicated.
- Hearing Aid Programs: Edit program names or delete programs. You can see which base program each is linked to.
Support & Remote Support Session
The Support section offers access to FAQs, User Guides, how-to videos, legal settings, and feedback options. You can also initiate a Remote Support session from here.
Remote Support: This feature allows you to have a video call with your hearing care professional for real-time adjustments. The session must be planned in advance.
Starting a Session: Press 'Start a Session' on the Support screen. When the session begins, you will need to 'Join waiting room'. The app will request microphone and camera access.
During the Call: You can mute/unmute, disable video, switch cameras, and end the call. Hearing aid connections can also be managed remotely by the professional.
Troubleshooting: Issues like Wi-Fi connection problems, hearing aid connection loss, or call failures can occur. Recommendations include using Wi-Fi for better quality and restarting the call if it fails.
End of Call: After the call, you can rate your experience. Press 'Done' to return to the main screen.
Profile and Data Privacy
The Profile section allows you to manage your account and preferences:
- Edit Your Details: Update personal information, security settings, and health preferences.
- Sign Out: Log out of the app.
- Personal Details: Edit name, surname, email, and country. You can also change your password and delete your account (requires password confirmation).
- Data Privacy: Manage which data you share with Phonak. Details on data processing are available in the Privacy Notice.
Important Safety Information
Please read the following safety information before using the app:
- Intended Use: The app is for intended hearing aid users to select, configure, and save settings, and to connect with hearing care professionals for remote adjustments.
- Intended Patient Population: For patients with unilateral/bilateral, mild to profound hearing loss (17+ years). Tinnitus feature for chronic tinnitus (18+ years).
- Indications: Based on compatible hearing aids, includes hearing loss and chronic tinnitus.
- Contraindications: Includes hearing loss outside fitting range, acute tinnitus, ear deformities, neural hearing loss. Referral criteria for medical opinion are detailed.
- Clinical Benefits: Adjust settings, save preferences, and communicate with hearing care professionals.
- Side Effects: Physiological side effects are from hearing aids, not the app. These may include tinnitus, dizziness, or ear pain, and should be managed by a hearing care professional.
- Limitations of Use: App usage is limited by device capabilities. Report serious incidents to the manufacturer or competent authority.
- Security Notice: Protect patient data by keeping smartphones and apps updated, using strong passwords, and locking your device. Avoid Bluetooth pairing in public areas.
- Software Maintenance: Provide feedback on app issues to Phonak.
- Warnings: Changing settings like volume or noise cancellation may affect awareness of environmental sounds, such as traffic. Obtain a free paper copy of instructions from a Sonova representative. Check hearing aid power and Bluetooth activation if they do not respond.
