WMS40 mini dual Quick Start Guide
Controls
Diagram showing the AKG SR40 receiver, HT40 handheld transmitter, and PT40 pocket transmitter with numbered callouts pointing to controls like volume, RF OK light, AF CLIP light, LED indicator, on/off button, slide control, mini-XLR jack, belt clip, and GAIN potentiometer.
Number | Control Name | Description |
1 | Volume control | Adjusts the audio output volume. |
2 | RF OK light | Lights up if the receiver is receiving a sufficiently strong signal. Does not light up if the signal is not received or is too weak. |
3 | AF CLIP light | Lights up if the audio level is too high. |
4 | On/Off button | Powers the transmitter on or off. |
5 | LED indicator | Indicates readiness for operation and battery capacity. Green: battery OK and transmitter operational. Red: replace battery soon. No light: replace battery now. |
6 | On/Off slide control with MUTE function | Slides to turn the transmitter on/off and includes a mute function. |
7 | Mini-XLR input jack | Connects microphones or instruments using a mini-XLR connector. |
8 | Belt clip | Attaches the transmitter to clothing or a belt. |
9 | Battery compartment cover | Covers the battery compartment. |
10 | GAIN potentiometer | Adjusts the input level sensitivity. |
Setting Up
Diagrams illustrating the setup process: connecting the receiver to an audio input and power, connecting the transmitter to a microphone/instrument via mini-XLR, and showing the minimum distance requirement between transmitter and receiver.
Steps:
- Connect the receiver to a balanced OR unbalanced audio input.
- Connect the receiver to the mains power and insert batteries into the transmitter.
- Connect your instrument or microphone to the mini-XLR jack of the pocket transmitter (PT40).
- Observe minimum distance between transmitter and receiver (min. 3-5 meters).
Operation
Diagram showing the transmitter's battery status LED and its different states (green, red, off).
Steps:
- Switch on the receiver and transmitter.
- Check the battery indicator on the transmitter: Green means the battery is OK and the transmitter is operational. Red means the battery needs to be replaced soon. No light means the battery needs to be replaced immediately.
Tips & Tricks
Diagrams demonstrating microphone technique: holding the microphone close to the mouth for enhanced bass, and showing the recommended angle for multiple singers into one microphone.
- For microphones with a cardioid polar pattern, maximum sound attenuation occurs at 180°. Use these microphones preferably where there is an interference noise source or a loudspeaker directly opposite the speaker. Holding the microphone less than 5 cm from your mouth gives your voice a voluminous and punchy quality.
- Never let more than 2 people sing into one microphone. The angle of incidence should never be more than 35°.
Volume Configuration - Audio-Mixer
Diagrams illustrating the adjustment of input sensitivity on the PT40 transmitter using a small screwdriver and the adjustment of audio levels on a mixer, highlighting the signal level indicator and the distortion zone.
- Gain Adjustment: Adjust the input sensitivity on the PT40 pocket transmitter using the small screwdriver included in the battery compartment cover. If the AF CLIP light illuminates frequently, reduce the potentiometer setting on the PT40.
- Audio Level Adjustment: Adjust the audio level using the Volume control on your connected instrument or mixer. For best results, use the highest possible input level to achieve the best signal-to-noise ratio. Ensure the level indicator never moves into the red zone, as this can cause unpleasant distortion. Carefully increase the input level until the level indicator is just below the red zone.
