Song Playback and Drum Pattern Creation
Song Playback
This section covers convenient mute/solo functions during song playback.
Track Mute
This feature allows you to mute specific tracks or multiple tracks of a song.
- Press the [MUTE] button. Its lamp will light, indicating that the corresponding track number buttons are illuminated, showing the tracks are active.
- To mute a track, press the corresponding Number [1] - [16] button. The lamp will turn off. Multiple tracks can be muted simultaneously.
- To unmute a track, press the corresponding button again. The lamp will light, indicating the track is now audible.
Ensure all track buttons are lit and mute is turned off for all tracks for future recording.
Track Solo
This feature allows you to solo a specific track of the song.
- Press the [SOLO] button. Its lamp will light.
- To solo a track, press the corresponding Number [1] - [16] button. The lamp will flash. Press another number button to change the soloed track.
- Press the [TRACK] or [MUTE] button to return to the original status.
Creating a Drum Part via Step Recording
Learn to create a song by recording a 4-measure drum phrase using Step Recording.
First, record a 4-measure drum phrase as shown below to Track 1:

- Press the [SONG] button to access the Song Play display and select an empty Song.
- On the [F1] PLAY display, set the time signature to "4/4."
- Press the [REC] button, followed by the [F1] SETUP button. Set the parameters as follows:
- Type = step
- Event = note
- RecTr = 1
- Ch = all
- If necessary, set the tempo to your desired value.
- Press the [▷] (Play) button to enter Step Record mode. The [] button lamp will light, and the Step Record display will appear.
- Set the "Step Time" to "480." This determines how many steps the pointer advances after a note is entered. Here, it advances in quarter-note steps.
- Press the [] (Top) button to return to the top of the Song, then press the BO key four times. This records the Bass Drum Kick sound to the timing of each beat.
- Press the [] (Stop) button to stop recording and return to the Song Play display.
- To record another percussion sound, press the [REC] button then the [▷] (Play) button to enter Step Record mode again.
- Set the "Step Time" to " ♪ 240." This advances the pointer in eighth-note steps.
- Press the [] (Top) button to return to the top of the Song, then press the [F3] REST button and the G#1 key four times. This records an eighth-note rest to each downbeat and the Hi-Hat Cymbal sound to each upbeat.
- Press the [■] (Stop) button to stop recording.
After these steps, you should have a 1-measure drum phrase.

To create a four-measure drum pattern by repeating the recorded phrase:
- Press the [JOB] button, then the [F3] EVENT button to open the EVENT JOB SELECT display.
- Select "02: Copy Event" and press the [ENTER] button.
- Configure the settings:
- Source Track = "01", Source range = "001:1:000" – "002:1:000"
- Destination Track = "01", Top measure of destination = "002"
- "NumberOfTimes" = "x 03"
- Press the [ENTER] button to execute the Copy Event Job. This will copy the drum phrase to the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th measures.
- Press the [SONG] button, the [K] (Top) button, and the [▷] (Play) button to hear the recorded data. Press the [■] (Stop) button to stop playback.
Tips in Step Recording
- You can enter chords by pressing all desired keys and then releasing them simultaneously.
- Pressing the [] (Play) button in Step Recording starts playback from the current position. Pressing [■] (Stop) returns to Step Record mode.
- Create legato phrases by setting the Gate Time to "100%."
- Enter tied notes by setting the Step Time to "480," pressing and releasing a key, changing the Step Time to "240," and then pressing the [F4] TIE button.
