GARDENA Robotic Lawn Mower Quick Start Guide

5. Starting and Stopping

Refer to manual sections 4.3 and 4.4.

Starting

  1. Open the cover by pressing the [STOP button].
  2. Set the [main switch] to position 1. The first time you do this, the startup sequence will begin, where you will need to select a 4-digit [PIN code], among other things.
  3. Press the [START button].
  4. Close the cover.

Stopping

Press the [STOP button].

6. Setting Up the Robotic Mower for Your Garden

Refer to manual sections 6.3, 6.4, and 6.6.

Tips for setting up the robotic mower's important settings. All settings are made via menu functions.

Adjust the Mower for Your Lawn

Cutting results depend on cutting time. Adjust the cutting time for your garden using the [Timer function]. If the mower cuts too often, the lawn will look trampled. If the mower cuts too infrequently, the lawn will not be properly maintained.

Timer

You decide what time of day and which days of the week the mower is active. When setting the timer, consider that the robotic mower cuts the number of square meters per hour or day mentioned in the Working Capacity table.

Test the Mower Through Narrow Passages

Due to tight spots in the garden, it is more difficult for the mower to find its way back to the charging station. Use the [Test Go Out function] (GARDENA R38Li, R40Li, R45Li & R50Li: Calibration Guide) to ensure the mower can fit through the narrowest passage.

  1. Place the mower in the charging station.
  2. Select [Test Go Out] from the robotic mower's menu (GARDENA R38Li, R40Li, R45Li & R50Li: Calibration Guide) and select [OK]. Press the [START button] and close the cover.
  3. Check that the mower follows the guide wire through the narrow passage.
    • a. If the mower passes through the spot, the test is complete.
    • b. If the robotic mower does not pass through all points: Check that the guide wire is installed according to the instructions in manual section 3.6.

GARDENA R70Li & R80Li can also adjust the guide width; see manual section 6.4.

1. Placing and Connecting the Charging Station

Refer to manual sections 3.2.

  1. Place the charging station in a central location in the work area, ensuring ample open space in front of it and that it is on a relatively level surface.
  2. Connect the power supply's low-voltage cable to the charging station and the power adapter.
  3. Connect the power adapter to a 100-240 volt [socket].

2. Charging the Battery and Placing the Boundary Wire

Refer to manual sections 3.3 and 3.4.

  1. Place the robotic mower in the charging station to charge the battery while you install the boundary wire. Set the [main switch] to position 1.
  2. Lay the [boundary wire], ensuring it forms a loop around the work area.
  3. Create a loop at the point where the guide wire will later be connected (see section 3.4).

3. Connecting the Boundary Wire

Refer to manual sections 3.5.

  1. Open the [connector] and insert the cable ends into the slots of each connector.
  2. Squeeze the [connectors] together with [pliers].
  3. Cut off excess boundary wire. Cut 1-2 cm above the connectors.
  4. Press the [connectors] onto the contact pins (mark A) on the charging station. It is important to connect the right-hand cable to the right-hand contact pin and the left-hand cable to the left-hand pin.
  5. Mark the wires with the supplied markers. This makes it easier to reconnect the wires later.

4. Placing and Connecting the Guide Wire

Refer to manual sections 3.6.

  1. Attach the [guide wire] to the spring clips on the bottom of the charging station.
  2. Fit the [connector] onto the guide wire in the same way as for the boundary wire, according to the instructions above.
  3. Connect the [connector] to the charging station contact pin marked "Guide".
  4. Run the [guide wire] straight forward from the front edge of the charging station for at least two meters [arrow].
  5. Run the [guide wire] to the point on the boundary wire where the connection will be made. Do not bend the wire at sharp angles.
  6. Cut the boundary wire with [wire cutters] at the loop made in step 2.3.
  7. Connect the [guide wire] to the boundary wire using the supplied [connectors]. Squeeze the [connectors] tightly together with [pliers].
