Troubleshooting
- Rice is too dry/hard after cooking: Add 1½ to 1 cup of water, stir, and switch to Rice. Once it switches to Keep Warm, stir again. Repeat as necessary until rice is soft and moist.
- Rice is too moist/soggy after cooking: Stir the rice with the serving spatula to redistribute moisture and release excess. Use the Keep Warm mode for 10-30 minutes, opening the lid and stirring periodically to release excess moisture.
Helpful Hints: The provided rice cooker cup is equivalent to a ¾ standard US cup.

Helpful Hints: If you misplace the measuring cup, a ¾ standard US cup is an exact replacement. To add more flavor to rice, try substituting water for a favorite meat or vegetable broth or stock. The ratio of broth/stock to rice will be the same as water to rice. For approximate rice cooking times and suggested rice/water ratios, see the "Rice & Water Measurement Table" on page 8.
Rice & Water Measurement Table
White Rice
Uncooked Rice* | Rice Water Line (inside pot) | Approx. Cooked Rice Yield* | Cooking Time |
---|---|---|---|
1 Cup | Line 1 | 2 Cups | 34-41 Minutes |
2 Cups | Line 2 | 4 Cups | 36-43 Minutes |
3 Cups | Line 3 | 6 Cups | 38-45 Minutes |
4 Cups | Line 4 | 8 Cups | 40-47 Minutes |
Brown Rice
Uncooked Rice* | Water Measuring Cup | Approx. Cooked Rice Yield* | Cooking Time |
---|---|---|---|
1 Cup | Line 1 | 2 Cups | 52-59 Minutes |
2 Cups | Line 2 | 4 Cups | 54-61 Minutes |
3 Cups | Line 3 | 6 Cups | 57-64 Minutes |
4 Cups | Line 4 | 8 Cups | 59-66 Minutes |
Note: Cooking times are approximate. Altitude, humidity, and outside temperature will affect cooking time. Opening the lid during the cooking cycle causes a loss of heat and steam, which may prolong cooking time. Rinse rice before placing it into the inner pot to remove excess bran and starch, which helps reduce browning and sticking. Use the Delay Timer for convenience.
Grain & Water Measurement Table
Grain | Uncooked Grain | Liquid | Min. Grain* | Max. Grain* | Cooking Time | Function |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Arborio | 1 Part | 2 Parts | 1 Cup | 2 Cup | 12-17 Minutes | Steam/Sauté-then-Simmer STS® |
Barley | 1 Part | 2 Parts | ½ Cup | 1 Cups | 5 Hours | Delay Timer & Grains |
Bulgur | 1 Part | 2 Parts | 1 Cup | 4 Cups | 50-65 Minutes | Grains |

Quinoa | 1 Part | 1½ Parts | 1 Cup | 4 Cups | 30-45 Minutes | Rice |
*Cups referenced are with the included measuring cup.
Note: When cooking barley, use Delay Timer for 4 hours with the Grains function for optimized flavor and texture. For best results, let barley or bulgur sit on Keep Warm for 10 minutes before serving. This chart is a general guide; variations exist for different types of rice. Arborio rice can also be cooked using the Sauté-then-Simmer STS® function for risotto.

Place the paper/foil in the center of the steam tray and ensure it does not create a seal along the bottom. Puncture small holes in the paper/foil for best results. The countdown feature is an excellent way to plan when adding the steam tray to ensure the rice and steamed food finish cooking at the same time.
Note: Do not attempt to cook more than 2 cups of uncooked rice if steaming and cooking rice simultaneously. Rice should not be left in the cooker on Keep Warm for more than 12 hours.

* When steaming, Aroma® recommends using 2 cups of water with the provided measuring cup.
Helpful Hints: Since most vegetables absorb little water, the amount of water does not need to increase for larger servings. Steaming times may vary depending on the cut of meat. Ensure meat is completely cooked prior to serving. If not, add more water and repeat the cooking process.
Note: Altitude, humidity, and outside temperature affect cooking times. These charts are for reference only; actual cooking times may vary. It is possible to steam at any point during the rice cooking cycle, but it is recommended to steam during the end of the cycle so that steamed food does not grow cold or become soggy before the rice is ready.
