MikroTik hAP ac² User Manual

This document provides a comprehensive guide to the MikroTik hAP ac² wireless access point.

hAP ac² Overview

The hAP ac² is a simple home wireless access point. It is pre-configured for immediate use with your ISP cable. It is recommended to set up a password to secure your device.

Powering

The device can be powered via:

A direct-input power jack (5.5mm outside and 2mm inside, female, pin positive plug) accepting 12-30 V DC.
The first Ethernet port using passive Power over Ethernet (PoE), accepting 18-28 V DC. A minimum of 12V is recommended to compensate for cable loss.

The power consumption under maximum load is approximately 15 W.

Setup

Connect your internet cable to the first port. Connect wired devices to the other ports.
Configure your computer's IP settings to obtain an IP address automatically (DHCP).
Connect to the wireless network named "MikroTik" from your PC or smartphone.
Open https://192.168.88.1 in your web browser. Log in automatically (no default password) and set your password. Specify your country to comply with local regulations.

Configuration

It is recommended to check for updates and install the latest RouterOS software for optimal performance and stability. You can find more configuration options and guides at https://mt.lv/help. If an IP connection is unavailable, the Winbox tool (https://mt.lv/winbox) can be used to connect to the device's MAC address from the LAN side. For recovery, the device can be booted from the network; refer to the "Buttons and jumpers" section.

Extension slots and ports

The Ethernet ports are connected via a switch chip and can be individually configured. They support automatic MDI/X, allowing the use of either straight-through or crossover cables.

The integrated wireless module supports AP, CPE, P2P, and Repeater modes.

Buttons and jumpers

The RouterBOOT reset button has the following functions:

Backup Boot Loader: Hold the button before powering on the device. Continue holding during power-up to force loading the backup boot loader.
Reset Configuration: Release the button when the green LED starts flashing to reset the RouterOS configuration. To skip loading the backup boot loader, start holding the button after power is applied.
Netinstall: Release the button after the LED stops flashing (approx. 20 seconds) to initiate a search for Netinstall servers, required for reinstalling RouterOS over the network.

Pressing the button before applying power will always load the backup RouterBOOT loader, which is useful for debugging and recovery.

Operating system support

The device supports RouterOS software. Other operating systems have not been tested.

Increasing the separation between the equipment and receiver.

This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) this device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. This device and its antenna must not be co-located or operated in conjunction with any other antenna or transmitter.

IMPORTANT: Exposure to Radio Frequency Radiation. A minimum distance of 13 cm must be maintained between the antenna and the user. Under this configuration, the FCC radiation exposure limits for a population/uncontrolled environment can be satisfied.

Antenna Installation: It is the installer's responsibility to ensure that only authorized antennas certified with the product are used in the United States (or where FCC rules apply). The use of any antenna other than those certified with the product is expressly forbidden by FCC rules CFR47 part 15.204. The installer should configure the output power level of antennas according to country regulations and antenna type. Professional installation is required for equipment with connectors to ensure compliance with health and safety issues.

MPE statement

This equipment complies with EU radiation exposure limits set forth for an uncontrolled environment. This equipment should be installed and operated with a minimum distance of 20 cm between the radiator and your body, unless specifically stated otherwise in page 1 of this document. In RouterOS, you must specify your country to ensure local wireless regulations are observed.
