Installing a PC Series Clock
Step 1: Site Selection
Choose a convenient location for employees to clock in and out. Ensure an 115vAC power outlet is within reach, as well as a wired or wireless internet connection.
Step 2: Mounting Plate Installation
Use the mounting plate to determine the appropriate height. Mark screw hole locations on the wall. Install the mounting plate using the supplied screws. For sheetrock walls, drill a 3/16" diameter hole approximately 1-1/2" deep for each screw location and insert the included plastic anchors.
Note: The bottom of the clock should be approximately 45 inches from the floor.
Step 3: Connecting the Clock
For a wired network connection, plug the RJ45 network cable into the Ethernet port. Plug the Power Adapter into the power adapter port on the back of the clock.
Important Note: If using POE (Power Over Ethernet), do not connect the power adapter. Verify POE setup with your IT department.
Align the PC SERIES clock with the tabs on the mounting plate and secure it with the provided Philips head screw. Be careful not to pinch the AC cord or network cable.
When finished, plug the power adapter into an AC wall outlet.

Troubleshooting a PC Series Clock
If the PayClock software does not communicate with the clock, try these suggestions:
General Troubleshooting
- Ensure all connections are secure and cables are intact, or the wireless access point is connected.
- Verify the network cable is securely connected to the Ethernet port.
- Confirm the wireless access point is working.
- Ensure the clock's power supply is securely connected to an electrical outlet and the unit is powered up.
If issues persist, consult your network administrator or IT person to check for network problems.
PC Series Troubleshooting
Issue | Resolution |
---|---|
The clock isn't connecting to PayClock Online. | Use the 'Test Connection' button. See Appendix A for details. |
The clock shows "Not Found" when a badge is presented. | Ensure the badge number matches the 'Badge Number' field in PayClock for the employee. |
What does the cloud `☁️` on the display represent? | Indicates the clock is connected to PayClock Online. |
What does the bar graph `?` on the display represent? | Represents the signal strength for the wireless connection. |
Why does the clock show “Punch Accepted" instead of Punch In or Out when an employee punches? | The clock lost internet connection. It needs internet access to determine In/Out status. Check if the `☁️` icon is displayed. |
Why do employee badges sometimes register a punch while in the badge rack? | The clock uses an internal antenna. Keep badges approximately 6 inches away from the clock when not in use to avoid accidental reads. |
Appendix A – Testing the Connection to PayClock Online
This tool helps diagnose clock connection failures to PayClock Online. Your IT department may be required.
Tap Settings `⚙️`, enter Admin PIN, tap `✔️`. Select 'Support' then 'Test Connection'.
Test 1 - Internet Connection
Pass: Proceeds to port test.
Fail: Verify another device connects to the internet. Contact your IT department.
Test 2 – Ports
Pass: Proceeds to PayClock Online service test.
Fail: Open listed port(s) to traffic. Contact your IT department.
Test 3 – PayClock Online Service
Pass: Displays test summary.
Fail: Open listed port(s) for Inbound/Outbound traffic. Contact your IT department.
Test 4 - PayClock Online Setup
Pass: Displays test summary.
Fail: Open PayClock Online and set up the PC Series clock under 'Clocks'.
Notes: The internet test pings www.google.com. If ping is disabled, results may be inaccurate. Network/firewall changes may require IT involvement.
Appendix B – Installing a Battery
The PC Series clocks have an optional rechargeable battery for operation during power failures. The battery recharges automatically when power is restored.
- Remove the battery compartment cover from the back of the clock.
- Position and plug the battery connector into the clock connector.
- Tuck wires and battery into the compartment, avoiding pinching wires.
- Insert and snap the cover into place.
Note: Ensure wires are not pinched when closing the cover.
Appendix C – Adjusting Finger Sensitivity
For PCTOUCH models, adjust finger sensitivity per employee if misreads occur. Increasing security level reduces the chance of one employee's fingerprint being read as another's.
Adjusting Finger Sensitivity
Tap the `[fingerprint]` button and enter the clock administrator password (default: 99999). Select the employee. On the Employee Finger enrollments screen, tap 'Biometric Settings'. The Security screen will display sensitivity settings (1-Low to 5-Hi). Tap the desired setting. Tap to apply. Tap `⬅️` to return to the enrollments screen.
Appendix D – Bell Relay Connections
The PC Series clocks have a built-in relay for controlling bells or door access.
Relay Specifications
- Type: Dry Contact Closure
- Rating: 2 amps at 24VDC or 120VAC
- Contacts: NO (Normally Open), COM (Common), NC (Normally Closed)
Bell Relay Connections
When connecting to a signaling device, ensure you have skills in wiring principles, interpreting diagrams, and circuit wiring. Wiring must comply with national and local electrical codes.
To Connect the Signaling Device
- Unplug the relay screw terminal connector on the back of the clock.
- Connect wires from the signaling device to the screw terminals (NO and COM). Plug the terminal connector back into the clock.
Important: Relay contacts provide no power. Connecting devices drawing more than the rated amperage can cause damage. Consider the optional SR501-4 Relay Booster Box for devices requiring more than 2 amps.
Wiring Diagrams: Diagrams illustrate connections for 120VAC, 24VAC, and 24VDC signaling devices, including the use of a transformer and snubber/ARC suppressor.
Wiring to P.A. System / Tone Generator: Connecting to a public address system requires an external Tone Generator. Contact your PA supplier.
Appendix E – Access Relay Connections
Connect to door access devices using basic wiring principles. Wiring must comply with national and local electrical codes.
Connecting the PC Series clocks to a Door Strike
- Unplug the relay screw terminal connector on the back of the clock.
- Connect wires from the door access device to the screw terminals (NO and COM). Plug the terminal connector back into the clock.
Important: Relay contacts provide no power. Connecting devices drawing more than the rated amperage can cause damage. Consider the optional SR501-4 Relay Booster Box for devices requiring more than 2 amps.
Wiring Diagrams: Diagrams show connections for door access control systems and door strikes, including wiring for strikes drawing more than 1.5 Amps (Peak) using the SR501-4 relay.
