Testing Initial setup and driving should be done in an open area free of obstacles until the user is fully capable of driving safely. iii Design and Function Intended Use The Simple Solutions Adapter Interface HD is designed to accommodate a wide range of back supports, as necessary, while maintaining support and stability, and remaining lightweight. It is intended for users who require extra width or height capacity for their back support system. Features The Simple Solutions Adapter Interface HD offers: · width, height, depth, and independent link offset adjustment; · back angle, rotational, and lateral adjustment capabilities, as well as highly adjustable link mounting options to accommodate wide, tall, or biangular back support configurations; · heavy-duty construction to meet higher load or force requirements than the original Simple Solution Adapter; · compatibility with a wide range of back supports; · little to no loss of seat depth. Installation Plan Set up an installation plan before beginning the installation. This plan should take into account: · the placement of the interface in relation to the back support; · the manner in which the interface will be operated, including its attached adjustable laterals; and, · the amount of clearance necessary for other hardware and accessories. WARNING Incorrect installation of the adapter interface or its accessories may cause damage to the hardware and/or injury to the user. Required Tools Use the proper tools to install and adjust the adapter interface to the user's desired position and specifications. Below are the tools needed to complete the installation of the adapter plate: Tool 3mm Hex Key 4mm Hex Key 10mm Wrench Used On Flat Head Screws on Mounting Plates Flat, Socket, and Button Head Screws throughout assembly Nylon Lock Nuts to attach Interface to Shell (Tools are not provided.) CAUTION 3 The use of improper tools may cause damage to the device. Under- or over-tightening fasteners can cause components to fail or cause the user discomfort. The tools required to install additional accessories are detailed in the manuals provided with those accessories. Installation Installing the Adapter to the Back Support Nearly any positioning requirement can be met with the Simple Solutions Adapter Interface HD. Step Otonoeltip- Loosen the Fasteners: Loosen the fasteners necessary to adjust the Adapter Wings (B), Adapter Links (D), and Mounting Plates (E) to mount to the back shell. E D B tooltip Step Two - Adjust the Width: Adjust the Adapter Wings (B) to the approximate width of the slots in the back shell. The four flat head screws that secure the Adapter Wings (B) to the Adapter Plate (A) can be installed in three different mounting positions to accommodate an extra two inches (2") in width. Choose the best position and snug the flat head screws to secure the Adapter Wings (B) in position. See "Adjustment - Mounting Plate Width Adjustment". 4 tooltip Installation Step Three - Height Setting: Using the button head screws attaching the links to the Adapter Wings (B), adjust the Adapter Links (D) and Mounting Plates (E) vertically to match the mounting slots in the back support. To achieve the best support, the Mounting Plates (E) should be mounted as wide as the mounting locations of the back support will allow. Mounting Plates (E) may be mounted as shown below (Vertical configuration) to fit taller back supports, ortotooltipaccommodate bi-angular configurations. See Adjustment - Mounting Plate Height Adjustment. Vertical configuration tooltip Horizontal configuration Step Four - Mounting Plate Rotation: If necessary, loosen the flat head screws and rotate the Mounting Plates (E) to properly orient the slots in the Mounting Plates (E) with the mounting locations of the back support. See Adjustment - Mounting Plate Rotation. Step Five - Depth Setting: Loosen the screws securing the Adapter Link (D) segments and adjust the angle of the links and the Mounting Plate (E) to adjust the depth of the back support. Tighten the socket head screws to secure the links in the new position. Note that in the vertical configuration (shown above right) the Mounting Plates (E) can be positioned at diffetoorlteipnt angles to allow a bi-angular btoaoltcipk support installation. See Adjustment - Link Adjustment. 5 Installation Step Six - Attach the Shell: Insert the button head screws through the fender washers and the front (user) side of the back support and attach to the Mounting Plates (E) using nylon lock nuts. tooltip Step Seven - Install Adapter Plate to the Chair: Align the mounting locations on the Adapter Plate (A) with the mounting posts on the chair back. Slide the Adapter plate over the posts and it should slide into position on the posts. tooltip 6 Installation Installation shown without back support installed for clarity. Step Eight: Install the Thumb Screw: The thumb screw is designed to hold Adapter Plate (B), and the back support attached to it, securely to the spine of the chair. Do not attempt to operate the chair without installing the thumb screw into the location shown in the image above. Step Nine - Tighten All Fasteners: Check all fasteners for tightness. The fasteners should be snug but not over-tightened. The thumb screw securing the adapter plate in position on the WARNING knobs is required for the installation of the SSAPTB4-HD. Do not attempt to use the chair unless it is properly installed. 7 Adjustment Link Adjustment The UniLinkTM Adapter Links are used to provide fine width and lateral positioning adjustment capability for a back support. Step 1: Loosen the 4mm socket head screw at the link that needs adjustment. Step 2: Rotate the link to the desired position. Step 3:toToltiipghten the 4mm socket head tsoocltripew to secure the link in the new position. The screw should be snug, but do not overtighten it. 1 2 3 Mounting Plate Rotation The Mounting Plates (E) can be rotated to one of four positions (90° apart) to align with mounting holes of a back support. Step 1: Loosen and remove the 3mm flat head screw securing the mount to the link. Step 2: Remove the mount from the link and rotate it in increments of 90° to align the pin with one of the four adjustment holes in the mount. Step 3: Replace the mount on the link and secure with the 3mm flat head screw. The screw should be snug, but do not overtighten it.* tooltip tooltip 1 2 * Thread locking compound may be used, if desired. 3 8 Adjustment Mounting Plate Height Adjustment The links can be moved vertically to align with differently spaced mounting locations in the back support. Ideally, these should be spaced as far apart as the back support will allow. tooltip 1 Step 1: Loosen the two 4mm button head screws securing the link to the plate. Step 2: Slide the link up or down to the new 2 position. Step 3: Secure the link in the new position by tightening the two 4mm button head screws. The screws 3 should be snug, but do not overtighten them. Mounting Plate Width Adjustment The Adapter Wings (B) are adjustable to fit different width back supports. Step 1: With the 4mm hex key, loosen the four flat head screws securing the 1 tooltip wing to the adapter interface. Mounting plates can be installed in either the inner or outer vertical slots depending on width required. 3 +1" +2" Step 2: Slide the wing into its new 2 position. If more width is needed, the flat head screws may be relocated to the locations shown to gain one or two inches of width, per side. Step 3: Tighten the four flat head screws to secure the wing in its new position. Make sure the screws are snug, but do not overtighten. 9 Adjustment Removing and Reinstalling the Adapter This is the final step in the implementation of the Simple Solutions Adapter Interface. Further adjustments to the interface or attached back support are possible without removal from the chair or made easier by the simplicity of the removal and installation of thtoeoltiap dapter. Step One: Remove the thumb screw from the lower left of the center spine, as shown in the image to the right. Align the Adapter Center Plate with the knobs located on the center spine of the chair. Step Two: Slip the adapter plate over the knobs and press it into position. Rtoeolptiplace the thumb screw in the lower left hole of the adapter, as shown. Installation shown without back support installed for clarity. Thumb screw is installed in this location. The thumb screw securing the adapter plate in position on the WARNING knobs is required for the installation of the SSAPTB4-HD. Do not attempt to use the chair unless it is properly installed. 10 First-Time Use Dealer Assistance During first-time use by the client, it is advised that the dealer or service technician not only explains the product, but also assists in the configuration of user positioning to the customer (i.e., the user and/or the attendant). If needed, the dealer can make final adjustments. User Testing It is important that the customer be fully aware of the installation of the Simple Solutions Adapter Interface HD, including how to use it and how it can be adjusted to fit the client comfortably. As a dealer, proceed as follows: Explain and show the customer how you have executed the installation and explain the function. · Have the user test the position of the Simple Solutions Adapter Interface HD. · Is the hardware in the proper position for the client? · Can the user safely operate all wheelchair controls with minimal effort? If needed, make any adjustments to the positioning. Explain possible problems to the customer and how to address them. Conditions of Use The Simple Solutions Adapter Interface HD is intended for use as installed by the dealer, in accordance to the installation instructions in this manual. The foreseen conditions of use should always be communicated by the dealer or service technician to the user and/or attendant during first-time use. If the usage conditions change significantly, please contact your dealer or qualified service technician. 11 X Disinfection · Wipe gently with a cloth dampened with a household disinfectant. Maintenance The following care and guideline instructions will keep hardware and covers in good condition for a longer period of time and prevent damage. · Periodically check and tighten any loose fasteners. · Check all components for any signs of wear or breakdown. · Wipe gently with a cloth dampened with a household disinfectant. · Gently remove dust and dirt from hardware with a soft damp cloth CAUTION NOTICE CAUTION Always check mounting hardware before using the adapter interface.
