Section 1: Bumper Installation
Part A: Plastic Bumper Sensor Installation (front or rear)
Step 1: Remove the bumper fascia from the vehicle using the manufacturer's recommended procedure.
Step 2: Locate the desired bumper sensor locations.
- Mark the locations using masking tape and a pencil.
- Recommended height from the ground is between 18" - 20". Measure and mark the desired height on the bumper.
- Measure the width of the bumper and refer to the spacing diagram to mark appropriately spaced locations across the bumper.
NOTE: Before drilling, check sensor locations for potential interference with metal beams, braces, or bracketry.
Diagram description: Shows a sensor being placed on a plastic bumper. Another diagram illustrates the recommended spacing for sensors across the bumper, indicating positions [L] (Left), [CL] (Center Left), [CR] (Center Right), and [R] (Right) with measurements like 1/8 and 1/4 units.
Part B: Plastic Bumper Sensor Installation
Step 1: Using a 1/4" Drill bit, pre-drill pilot holes at the marked locations.
Step 2: Using a 5/8" (15.5mm) hole saw, drill holes through the pilot holes.
Step 3: Clean the inside of the bumper around the holes with alcohol.
Step 4: Insert the sensor into the flush mounting piece. The sensor is keyed to fit only one way (UP). Align the sensor's side tabs with the mounting piece and press until it clicks.
Step 5: Ensure the [UP Indicator] is pointing upwards on the mounting piece.
Step 6: Remove the adhesive protector from the mounting piece and position it over the hole from the inside of the bumper fascia.
Step 7: Press firmly and evenly to ensure the adhesive bonds with the plastic.
Step 8: Properly aligned sensors will have all connectors pointing towards the driver's side.
Step 9: Connect the correctly labeled portion of the Sensor harness to each sensor in the bumper. Note the orientation of [L], [CL], [CR], & [R] as shown in the diagram.
Step 10: Route the sensor harness along the bumper and find or create a path to get the harness inside the vehicle. It is recommended to use an existing grommet. If none is present, drill a hole and install a fitting grommet and silicone for a watertight seal.
Step 11: Reinstall the bumper fascia onto the vehicle.
Diagram description: Shows a cross-section of a bumper with a sensor mounted using a flush piece from the inside. A table lists the sensor positions: [L] Driver Side Edge, [CL] Driver Side Center, [CR] Passenger Side Center, [R] Passenger Side Edge.
Part C: Metal Bumper Sensor Installation (front or rear)
Step 1: Locate bumper sensor locations.
- Mark locations with masking tape and a pencil.
- Recommended height: 18" - 20" from the ground.
- Measure bumper width and refer to the diagram for appropriate spacing.
NOTE: Before drilling, check sensor locations for potential interference with metal beams, braces, or bracketry.
Step 2: Prepare the bumper for drilling. Use a 1/4" Drill bit for pre-drilling, then a 7/8" (22mm) hole saw to cut the hole. File any metal burrs.
Step 3: Insert the sensor into the round mounting piece. The sensor is keyed to fit only UP. Align the single line at the top of the sensor with the mounting piece and press until it clicks. The sensor face should be flush with the mounting ring.
Step 4: If mounting lower than 18", use the provided 5-degree mounting pieces.
Diagram description: Shows a sensor and its round mounting piece for metal bumpers. Another diagram illustrates sensor spacing across the bumper, similar to the plastic bumper diagram, with positions [L], [CL], [CR], [R] and measurements.
Part D: Metal Bumper Sensor Installation
Step 1: From the front, push the sensors into the holes. They should fit firmly. If not, lightly file and clean the hole.
Note: The mounting piece has a small arrow that must be oriented upwards.
Step 2: Connect the correctly labeled portion of the sensor harness to each sensor. Note the orientation of [L], [CL], [CR], & [R] as shown.
Step 3: Properly aligned sensors will have all connectors pointing towards the driver's side.
Step 4: Route the sensor harness along the bumper and find a way to get it inside the vehicle. Use an existing grommet if possible. If not, drill a hole and install a grommet and silicone for a watertight seal.
