The Need for Backup Power
Since 1990, demand for electricity has increased 400%, putting your power at risk.
The negative consequences of a power outage are easy to imagine: frozen pipes bursting, dangerous cold and punishing heat, flooding basements, spoiled food, mold infiltration, loss of contact with the outside world, and loss of control.
Top Causes for Power Outages (Source: Generac Power Outage Explorer 2012)
- 62% - STRONG STORMS
- 10% – SNOW / ICE STORMS
- 7% - HURRICANE
- 7% – EQUIPMENT FAILURES
- 5% – OTHER
- 5% – UNKNOWN
- 4% – HIGH WINDS
All the Comforts of Home Depend on Power:
- Refrigeration/freezer for food and medicines
- Furnace
- Air conditioning
- Lighting – inside and outside
- Clean water for drinking and bathing
- Sump pump
- Cooking appliances
- Contact with the outside world; Internet, cell phone chargers, TV, radio and more
- Washing and drying clothes
- Security system
- Garage door opener
- Fans
- Medical equipment
- Charging power tools for use during emergency and post-outage cleanup
- Protection against monetary loss from temporary relocation, hotel costs, dining out, property damage, etc.
How It Works
If your power goes out, your generator comes on – automatically. The system consists of a generator and transfer switch. The generator is typically located outside, similar to a central air conditioner, while the transfer switch is near the main breaker box, sometimes replacing it entirely.
The process is simple:
- 1️⃣ Utility power is lost.
- 2️⃣ Generator automatically detects a problem.
- 3️⃣ Generator automatically turns on.
- 4️⃣ Electricity is automatically restored.
Visual Description: A diagram shows a house connected to utility power lines. When power is lost, a Generac generator unit outside the house activates, and a transfer switch inside the house redirects power to the home's systems.

Coverage Options:
- Essential Circuit Coverage: Economical solutions covering the basics. Ideal for homeowners who need to cover only essential circuits during an outage.

- Complete Whole-House Coverage: Generac's full line of backup power solutions includes larger generators capable of covering every circuit in any size home for complete whole-house protection. Everything comes on and stays on, regardless of the number of circuits.
