ASUS PRIME B650-PLUS Motherboard Quick Start Guide
Introduction
This document provides a quick start guide for the ASUS PRIME B650-PLUS motherboard, detailing the essential steps for installation and initial setup. ASUS is a leading technology company known for its innovative hardware solutions.
Step 1: Install the CPU
This step involves installing the Central Processing Unit (CPU) into the motherboard's CPU socket. Align the triangle mark on the CPU with the triangle mark on the socket. Lower the retention arm to secure the CPU.
Step 2: Install the CPU Fan
Mount the CPU cooler bracket according to the cooler's instructions. Apply thermal compound if necessary. Attach the fan to the cooler and connect its cable to the CPU_FAN header on the motherboard.
Motherboard Layout
The motherboard features the Socket AM5 for the CPU, four DDR5 DIMM slots (A1, A2, B1, B2) for memory, M.2 slots (M.2_1, M.2_2) for storage, and multiple PCIe slots (PCIEX16_1, PCIEX16_2, PCIEX1) for expansion cards. It includes various fan headers (CPU_FAN, AIO_PUMP, CHA_FAN1-3), power connectors (ATX_PWR, ATX_12V), USB headers, SATA ports, and front panel connector pins for power, reset, and LEDs. The motherboard dimensions are 24.4cm x 30.5cm.
Step 3: Install Memory Modules
Open the clips on the DIMM slots. Align the notch on the memory module with the notch in the slot. Press down firmly on both ends of the module until it clicks into place and the clips engage.
Step 4: Install Storage Devices
Install storage devices, such as M.2 SSDs, into the designated M.2 slots. Secure the M.2 drive with the provided screw. Refer to the user guide for detailed M.2 installation instructions.
Step 5: Install Expansion Card(s)
Install expansion cards, like graphics cards, into the appropriate PCIe slots. Remove the corresponding slot cover from the case, align the card with the slot, and press down firmly until it is seated. Secure the card to the case with a screw.
Step 6: Install the System Panel Connector
Connect the system panel connectors (e.g., power switch, reset switch, HDD LED, power LED) to the corresponding pins on the motherboard. Refer to the motherboard manual for precise pin assignments.
Step 7: Install ATX Power Connectors
Connect the 24-pin ATX power connector and the 4+4 pin or 8-pin ATX 12V power connector from the power supply unit (PSU) to the corresponding sockets on the motherboard.
Step 8: Connect Input/Output Devices
Connect your input and output devices, such as keyboard, mouse, monitor (via HDMI or DisplayPort), USB devices, and network cable, to the ports on the rear I/O panel. The motherboard supports ASUS BIOS FlashBack™, a feature allowing BIOS updates without a CPU or RAM installed.
Step 9: Power on the System and Install Operating System and Drivers
Connect the power cord, monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Power on the system. Insert your operating system installation media (e.g., USB drive) and follow the on-screen prompts to install the OS. After OS installation, install the motherboard drivers (chipset, audio, LAN, etc.) from the ASUS support website or the included media.
