Caring For Your Brewer
Regular cleaning keeps your brewer running smoothly. Always turn off and unplug your brewer before cleaning.
Brewer Exterior
Clean the exterior with a damp, soapy, lint-free, non-abrasive cloth. Never immerse the brewer in water or other liquids.
Drip Tray
The drip tray holds up to 8 ounces of overflow. To remove, slide it toward you, keeping it level to avoid spilling. Rinse and clean with a damp, soapy, lint-free, non-abrasive cloth.
Water Reservoir & Reservoir Lid
Periodically clean the water reservoir lid and reservoir with a damp, soapy, non-abrasive cloth and rinse thoroughly. They are not dishwasher safe. Do not dry the inside of the water reservoir with a cloth, as lint may remain. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning to ensure no cleaning solutions remain.
Cleaning Entrance Needles
Lift the brewer handle. Locate the top entrance needles on the underside of the lid. Hold the handle upward and carefully insert a straightened paper clip into the holes to loosen coffee grounds. Lower the handle and run two water-only brew cycles without a pod. A Brewer Maintenance Accessory tool can also be used.
Cleaning the Exit Needle
If a clog occurs, push the lever of the pod holder to reveal the exit needle. Use a paper clip or similar tool to loosen the clog. Rinse thoroughly with hot water. Reassemble the pod holder assembly and lower the handle.
CAUTION: Sharp needles. Do not put fingers in chamber.
Descaling Your Brewer
Descale your brewer every 3-6 months to maintain performance and prevent scale buildup. Promptly descale when the touch screen indicates "Time to descale the brewer!".
Descaling Procedure
You will need a large ceramic mug, fresh water, Keurig® Descaling Solution, and access to a sink. Allow approximately 45 minutes.
Step 1: Descaling Solution Rinse
Power off the brewer. Pour the entire bottle of Keurig® Descaling Solution into the empty water reservoir. Fill the empty bottle with water and pour into the reservoir. Power the brewer back on. Place a large mug on the drip tray and run a cleansing brew using the largest brew size.
Step 2: Descaling Rinse & Repeat
Repeat the rinsing brew process until the touch screen indicates "More Water Please". Do not use a K-Cup® pod. Let the brewer stand for at least 30 minutes while on. Discard residual solution, rinse the reservoir thoroughly.
Step 3: Fresh Water Rinse
Fill the water reservoir with fresh water to the MAX line. Place a large mug on the drip tray plate and run a rinsing brew using the largest brew size. Do not use a K-Cup® pod. Pour contents into the sink. Repeat until at least 12 rinsing brews are completed, refilling the reservoir as needed. Note: Foam dispensed from the brewer is normal.
If the brewer does not function properly after descaling (e.g., no output), turn off, unplug, discard any solution, rinse the reservoir, refill with water, plug in, power on, and repeat the Fresh Water Rinse cycle. If the problem persists, allow the brewer to sit unplugged for 30 minutes before continuing.
Troubleshooting
Brewer Does Not Have Power or Shuts Off

Brewer Will Not Brew
- Ensure the handle is lowered completely after placing a pod and the touch screen displays the appropriate brew screen.
- If the touch screen indicates "More Water Please", add water or ensure the reservoir is seated properly.
- If "More Water Please" persists, empty and clean the reservoir, refill, and reseat it properly.
- The pod holder may need cleaning or the brewer may need descaling.

Recycling K-Mug® and K-Carafe® Pods
K-Mug® and K-Carafe® pods' plastic cups can be recycled where #5 plastic is accepted. Check locally with your municipality or waste hauler, or visit KeurigRecycling.com for more information. #5 plastic is recyclable everywhere in Canada.
After brewing and once the pod is cool, separate the lid and filter from the cup. The filter adheres to the lid. Discard the lid and filter. Recycle the plastic cup.
