Tool / battery protection system

The tool is equipped with a system that automatically cuts off power to the motor to extend tool and battery life under certain conditions:

Operation

Switch action

Slide the switch to 'I' (ON) to start the tool and to 'O' (OFF) to stop it.

Adjusting the orbital stroke rate

Turn the dial (1-6) to adjust the orbital stroke rate. Higher numbers mean a higher rate. Do not force the dial; turn it through intermediate numbers.

Lighting up the front lamp

Slide the switch to 'I' (ON) to activate the front lamp. The lamp stays on while the switch is in the 'I' (ON) position and turns off 10 seconds after switching off.

NOTE: The front lamp blinks for about 1 minute if overheat protection or protection lock is active.

Installing or removing battery cartridge

CAUTION: Always switch off the tool before installing or removing the battery cartridge. Hold the tool and cartridge firmly.

To remove: Slide the button on the front of the cartridge and slide the cartridge out.

To install: Align the tongue on the cartridge with the groove in the housing and slide it in until it clicks. Ensure the red indicator is not visible, meaning it is fully locked.

CAUTION: Ensure the battery cartridge is fully inserted.

Installing or removing application tool

WARNING: Do not install application tool upside down.

CAUTION: Clean dust and lubricate the lock lever periodically. Be careful when closing the lock lever to avoid pinching fingers.

  1. Open the lock lever fully until it clicks. Remove the holder bolt.
  2. Fit the application tool onto the tool flange and insert the holder bolt.
  3. Return the lock lever to its original position. Ensure the tool is securely held.

To remove, follow the installation procedures in reverse.

CAUTION: Do not touch the application tool or workpiece immediately after operation due to heat.

Using sanding application tool

Mount the sanding paper onto the sanding pad, aligning holes for dust extraction.

To remove sanding paper, peel it off.

Cutting, sawing and scraping

NOTICE: Do not force the tool. Operate with appropriate load for efficiency.

Place the application tool on the workpiece and move the tool forward smoothly.

NOTE: For cutting, preset the orbital stroke rate to 4-6. Adequate movement speed aids dust ejection.

Sanding

NOTICE: Do not reuse sanding paper. Do not use worn or grit-less paper.

Apply sanding paper to the workpiece.

NOTE: Determine the orbital stroke rate by sanding a test material sample. Avoid changing grit during sanding for a uniform finish.

Maintenance

CAUTION: Always switch off the tool and remove the battery cartridge before performing inspection or maintenance.

NOTICE: Never use gasoline, benzine, thinner, alcohol, or similar substances, as they may cause discoloration, deformation, or cracks.

For repairs, maintenance, or adjustments, contact Makita Authorized or Factory Service Centers and use only Makita replacement parts to maintain product safety and reliability.
