General Instructions and Recommendations
Fitting
- Ensure the tow bar has not been damaged during transport and is the correct reference for the vehicle.
- Read and follow all fitting instructions precisely.
- Present the tow bar under the vehicle before starting the installation.
- If drilling is required, check for and avoid damaging any electrical or brake wires. Remove any soundproofing material or bitumen layer. Treat drilled holes and body parts with an anti-corrosive product.
- For vehicles with non-standard bumpers (e.g., special series, sport, tuning), contact GDW technical service to confirm compatibility and necessary modifications.
- The tow bar is delivered assembled for storage; disassemble parts before proceeding with the fitting.
Guarantee
- To determine the correct towing weight capacity of your vehicle, consult the Certificate of Conformity (COC) or contact your dealer. Do not exceed the specified technical data of the tow bar.
- The tow bar must be checked after approximately 1,000 km of use and at least once a year:
- Check all bolt connections and retighten if necessary.
- Repair any damage to the paint finish.
- Replace any components that have been damaged due to an accident or collision.
- Grease the internal parts of detachable tow bar systems.
Usage
- If the towing ball obstructs the license plate or the fog light, it is mandatory to remove the ball when it is not in use.

Required Tools
The following tools are typically required for installation (refer to diagrams for specific usage):
- Socket Wrenches: Sizes 8, 17, 19
- Screwdrivers: PH2, TX30
- Torque Wrench
Installation Steps
Follow these steps for the correct installation of the GDW tow bar for the Mazda CX3:
Step 1: Access Rear Area
Open the vehicle's tailgate. Arrows indicate the areas around the rear bumper and taillights where access is needed. This step involves preparing the vehicle for bumper removal or detachment.
Step 2: Remove Bumper Trim
The rear bumper or specific trim pieces are shown being opened or detached, indicated by arrows. This provides access to the vehicle's chassis mounting points.
Step 3: Access Mounting Points
Further access to the chassis mounting points is revealed, possibly behind removed bumper sections or internal trim. Arrows highlight the specific locations for hardware attachment.
Step 4: Prepare Mounting Points
This step involves preparing the vehicle's chassis for the tow bar. It may include drilling holes (if not pre-drilled) and treating these areas with an anti-corrosive product to prevent rust. Tools like screwdrivers and wrenches are shown, along with hardware like bolts and washers.
Step 5: Attach Main Frame (Loosely)
The main tow bar frame is positioned under the vehicle. Hardware, including bolts (e.g., M10, M12) and washers, is used to loosely attach the frame to the chassis at the designated mounting points. Tools like socket wrenches and torque wrenches are indicated.
Step 6: Secure Main Frame
The main tow bar frame is fully secured to the vehicle's chassis. Ensure all bolts are correctly positioned and tightened according to the torque specifications. This step involves multiple attachment points on both sides of the vehicle's rear structure.
Step 7: Attach Side Brackets
Side brackets or support arms are attached to the main tow bar frame and the vehicle's chassis. This involves using various bolts, nuts, and washers (e.g., M10, M12) to ensure a secure connection.
Step 8: Install Tow Ball Assembly
The tow ball receiver and the tow ball itself are assembled and attached to the main tow bar structure. This includes specific hardware and potentially a locking mechanism for detachable versions.
Step 9: Re-attach Bumper/Trim
The removed bumper or trim pieces are re-attached to the vehicle. Arrows indicate the direction of reassembly, ensuring the vehicle's rear aesthetics are restored.
Step 10: Final Assembly and Checks
Final assembly of the tow ball mechanism and any associated electrical connector housing. This step may also involve final tightening of bolts and ensuring all parts are correctly seated.
Step 11: Clearance Verification
Verify that the installed tow bar meets the clearance requirements as specified in regulation nr. 55. Diagrams on page 17 illustrate the necessary clearances (angles and distances) that must be maintained.
