How to Identify Your Computer's Graphics Card (GPU)
A guide to understanding and locating your system's graphics processing unit.
Understanding Your Graphics Card
Most GEEKOM products utilize integrated graphics cards. Only the MEGAMINI G1 model features a discrete graphics card.
1. How to View Your GPU Model
a) Using Task Manager (for Windows 10 and Windows 11 users)
Method 1: Shortcut Key
- Press
Ctrl + Shift + Esc
.
Method 2: Taskbar Right-Click
- Right-click the taskbar and select Task Manager.
The Task Manager window will open. Navigate to the Performance tab. Select GPU from the left-hand menu. The GPU model, such as "Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics", and its utilization will be displayed.
[Description of Task Manager Screenshot: A screenshot of the Windows Task Manager showing system performance metrics. The Performance tab is selected, and the GPU section is highlighted, displaying "GPU 0" with "Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics" as the model, along with its current utilization (e.g., 20%) and memory usage (e.g., 2.1/7.9 GB). Detailed driver information and DirectX version are also visible.]
b) Using System Settings (for Windows 10 and Windows 11 users)
- Open Settings: Press
Win + I
or select Settings from the Start menu. - Navigate to display settings: Select System > Display. Scroll down and click Advanced display settings.
In the Advanced display settings, you can find information about your display adapters, including the graphics card model.
c) Viewing Graphics Card Information in Display Adapter Properties
From the Advanced display settings, you can access more detailed information:
- Click on Display adapter properties for Display [Number].
A new window will display comprehensive details about your graphics card, including its name, type, and memory specifications.
[Description of Display Adapter Properties Screenshot: A dialog box titled "Generic PnP Monitor and Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics Properties". It shows adapter details such as "Adapter Type: Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics", "Chip Type: Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics Family", and memory information like "Total Available Graphics Memory: 8175 MB", "Dedicated Video Memory: 128 MB", and "Shared System Memory: 8047 MB".]
d) Checking Device Manager
- Open Device Manager: Press
Win + X
and select Device Manager. - Expand Display adapters to see the name of the graphics card listed.
[Description of Device Manager Screenshot: The Windows Device Manager utility is shown. The "Display adapters" category is expanded, listing "Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics". The device status indicates "This device is working properly".]
2. Integrated Graphics Card Introduction
a) What is integrated graphics?
An Integrated Graphics Processing Unit (iGPU) is a graphics card embedded within the CPU or motherboard chipset. Unlike a Dedicated GPU, it does not require separate hardware to provide graphical processing capabilities.
Integrated graphics are generally suitable for everyday tasks such as office work, web browsing, and video playback. Due to their low-power design, they are widely used in laptops, compact desktops, and embedded devices.
b) Intel Integrated Graphics Models
- Intel HD Graphics Series: The earliest integrated graphics brand, used in older processors. Application Platform: Intel 1st to 7th Generation Core processors.
- Intel UHD Graphics Series: An improved version of HD Graphics, offering higher graphical performance. Application Platform: Intel 8th to 10th Generation Core processors.
- Intel Iris Graphics Series: Designed for users with higher performance demands, offering stronger performance than UHD Graphics. Application Platform: Primarily used in high-end processors (e.g., i7 and i9 Series).
- Intel Iris Xe Graphics Series: A significant advancement in performance, specifically designed for modern demands. Application Platform: Intel 11th Generation Tiger Lake and 12th Generation Alder Lake.
- Intel Arc Graphics Series: The latest generation of integrated graphics. Application Platform: Used in Intel 13th Generation and Ultra Series processors.
c) AMD Integrated Graphics Models
