PURGE CONVERSION INSTRUCTIONS FOR MCP44

This document provides instructions for installing a water purge pump onto the MasterCool MCP44 window evaporative cooler.

CAUTION: Ensure unit is turned fully off and unplugged from electrical outlet. Turn off and disconnect water source to cooler unit before proceeding.

Installation Steps

  1. Remove the back of the cooler by extracting 2 screws from the top and 2 screws from the bottom.
  2. Disconnect the water supply tube from the water distribution tray.
  3. Remove the existing hose assembly and replace it with the long piece of tubing from the kit.
(Remove and discard existing water hose. Replace with long hose from kit.)
  4. Attach the bracket to the pump with two screws (included) and place the strainer basket under the pump before installing the purge pump assembly to the cooler body in the space provided.
(Place strainer screen under pump, then secure pump assembly to cooler body.)
  5. Attach one end of the purge hose (short hose) to the purge pump and the other end to the overflow fitting. Ensure the overflow fitting is securely tightened to prevent leaks during operation.
  6. Remove the receptacle cover on the back of the fan housing by extracting two screws. Locate the receptacle inside the access panel using needle nose pliers or other means to extract it. Insert the purge pump plug into the receptacle marked with a "P" sticker.
(Remove two screws holding cover. Locate receptacle inside housing (marked with a "P"), and plug purge pump cord into it.)

NOTE: When accessing the receptacle for the purge pump, you may extract the main pump cord to make locating the purge pump receptacle easier. Do not unplug the main pump connection. Ensure the purge pump plug is only inserted into the receptacle marked "P".

  7. Push the plug(s) and all excess cord(s) back into the housing and replace the receptacle cover with two (2) screws.
  8. Replace the cooler back, ensuring the water supply hose is reconnected to the water distribution tray. Secure the cooler back with four screws.
  9. Reconnect and turn on the external water supply.
  10. Plug the unit into the electrical outlet. The cooler is ready for operation.

NOTE: The purge pump will expel water in the base of the cooler every 6 hours for approximately 5 minutes. Refer to the MCP44 cooler installation manual for information regarding the proper handling of the expelled water.
