Safety Notes

  • Important: These scales must not be used by persons with a medical implant (like a pacemaker) [medical implant warning].
  • The scales are suitable for indoors domestic use only – they are not calibrated for medical use – only a medical specialist can make accurate determinations.
  • The scales can be slippery when wet – be careful! Never step onto the outer edge of the scales with one foot as this can cause the scales to tip.
  • Batteries are dangerous if swallowed – keep scales and batteries out of reach of children.
  • Analysed results may not be accurate for: Children under 10 years, competitive athletes and body-builders, pregnant women, persons with fever, dialysis treatment or with symptoms of edema or osteoporosis, persons taking cardiovascular, vascular dilating or vascular constricting medication, or persons with anatomic deviations of the legs in relation to total body size.
  • Please note that the measurements of these scales are only an indication – only a medical specialist can make accurate determinations!

Use and Maintenance

  • Do not use during pregnancy – measurements will not be correct due to the amniotic fluid.
  • Clean with a lightly dampened cloth without allowing any water to get into the device.
  • Do not use solvents or immerse the product in water or any other liquid. The scales are not watertight.
  • Do not exceed the capacity of the scales.
  • Protect the scales against knocks, damp, dust, chemicals, drastic changes in temperature, electromagnetic fields and sources of heat.
  • This product is a sensitive electronic instrument and as such may temporarily be affected by Radio Transmitting Devices being used in close proximity to it.
  • Please dispose of used batteries in a responsible manner by recycling.
  • Remove the batteries if the product is not in use for an extended period. Although the scales are suitable for rechargeable batteries, we advise you to use normal batteries for the best results.
  • Scales tested according to CE norms.
  • Place the scales on a hard, flat surface – accurate weighing is not possible on soft surfaces like carpet, rugs etc.

How Does It Work?

These Brabantia scales measure the percentage of your body fat, water, muscles and BMI (Body Mass Index) according to the Bio-electrical Impedance Analysis (BIA), a quick, easy, and safe method. When you step onto the scales with bare feet, the scales send a completely harmless and undetectable electrical current and measure the electrical impedance of your body. Muscle tissue and water have good conductivity, and therefore lower resistance. Fatty tissue and bones, on the other hand, have low conductivity as they hold a lower water content than muscles. Low conductivity (= high impedance) points to the presence of more body fat. The body fat percentage etc. is determined by measuring the electrical resistance in combination with information about your gender, age, height and whether you are sportive or not.

General Tips for Accurate Weighing

  • To get the most accurate measurements of your body, always weigh yourself at the same time – preferably in the morning, unclothed and with an empty stomach.
  • You can only measure your body fat percentage etc. when you stand barefoot on the scales and your soles are not completely dry.
  • Step onto the scales and stand still until the correct weight is shown in the display.
  • Wait a few hours after unaccustomed strenuous activity.
  • Wait ± 15 minutes after getting up in the morning.
  • There may be no contact between feet, legs, calves and thighs. Otherwise, the measurement will not be performed correctly.

Getting Started

Prepare the Scales for First-Time Use

Open the battery housing in the base of the scales and fit the batteries, making sure the '+' and '–' signs on the batteries match the equivalent signs. If the display shows 0.0, the scales are ready for use.

Change the Weighing Units

You can change the measuring units from metric to imperial or vice versa (i.e., KG/ST/LB) by simply pressing the units/up button located on the underside of the scales.

Inputting Personal Information Before Use

(In this example, the unit kg is selected)

After confirming a step, the display will automatically show the next step. Up to 8 users can store their personal information in the scales memory.

  1. Touch to switch on the scales – the user number (e.g., P1) will flash.
  2. Touch < or > to select the desired user number and touch to confirm.
  3. Touch < or > to select the gender and/or athlete mode and touch to confirm. (Note: if you exercise at least 5 hours a week, you can choose the athlete mode.)
  4. Touch < or > to select the value for your body height and touch to confirm.
  5. Touch < or > to select the value for your age and touch to confirm.
  6. All data will be stored automatically. You can step on the scales if 0.0 is shown on the LCD display. Data must be entered again after a battery change.

Measuring

Measuring (Select User Manually)

  1. Touch to switch on the scales and touch < or > to select your personal user number. Wait until the LCD display shows 0.0.
  2. Stand on the middle of the platform with bare feet.
  3. Stand still – the weight data will be locked automatically when stable.
  4. The measurement will start automatically with the indication bar moving from left to right.
  5. After measuring, the results will be shown three times, and then the scales will turn off automatically.
  6. Record your measurements in a diary.

Measuring (Select User Automatically)

If your personal information is stored in the memory, the scales will determine your user number by the last measurement of your weight.

  1. Step onto the scales with bare feet to switch on the scales.
  2. Stand still – the weight data will be locked automatically when stable.
  3. If your weight is already stored in the scales memory, your user number will be selected automatically, and the measurements will be shown in cycles of three times, and the scales will be turned off.

If there are other users of the scales whose weight data comes close to your weight, the display will show both user numbers after calculation. You can select your user number by using < and > and touch to confirm. If there are more users with approximately the same weight, you have to select your personal user number manually.
