Add and Register a Handset
Your IS8151 telephone system supports up to 12 handsets. New IS8101 handsets (purchased separately) must be registered with the telephone base before use. When first purchased, expansion handsets display "To register HS, see manual."
Before registering: Charge the new handset without interruption for at least 30 minutes.
To register a handset to the IS8151 base:
- Place the handset you wish to register on the telephone base cradle.
- Both the handset and telephone base will display "Registering... Please wait." Registration takes about 90 seconds. Upon completion, both will display "HANDSET Registered" and beep.
If registration fails: "Registration failed" will appear. The handset will show "To register HS, see manual." This may take up to five minutes. Please restart from Step 1.
Deregister Handsets
To replace a handset or reassign its number, deregister all handsets and then re-register each one individually. This is also required to register a handset to a different telephone base.
To deregister all handsets:
- Press and hold FIND HS on the telephone base for about 10 seconds until the HOME light flashes. The screen shows "Deregister all devices?".
- Immediately press FIND HS again while the light is flashing. The HOME light turns off, and a confirmation tone is heard.
- All handsets will display "To register HS, see manual." Deregistration takes about 10 seconds.
Note: If deregistration fails, reset the system by unplugging and replugging the telephone base power. Deregistration cannot occur if another handset is in use. Handsets can be deregistered even with a depleted battery after charging for at least 10 minutes.

General Product Care
- Handling: Treat your cordless telephone with care due to its sophisticated electronic parts. Place the handset down gently. Save original packing materials for shipping.
- Water: Do not use the handset outdoors in the rain or handle with wet hands. Do not install the base near sinks, bathtubs, or showers.
- Electrical Storms: Take caution with electrical appliances during storms due to potential power surges.
- Cleaning: Clean the casing with a dry, non-abrasive cloth only. Do not use damp cloths or cleaning solvents.
About Cordless Telephones
- Privacy: Conversations are transmitted via radio waves and may be intercepted by equipment within range. Do not consider cordless conversations as private as corded ones.
- Electrical Power: The base must be connected to a working electrical outlet not controlled by a wall switch. Calls cannot be made if the base is unplugged, switched off, or power is interrupted.
- Potential TV Interference: Some cordless phones may interfere with TVs and VCRs. To minimize interference, do not place the base near or on top of a TV or VCR. Moving the base away from the TV/VCR often resolves interference.
- Rechargeable Batteries: Handle batteries with care to avoid short circuits. Observe proper polarity. Dispose of Nickel-metal hydride batteries safely; do not burn or puncture them.
The RBRC® Seal
The RBRC® seal on the nickel-metal hydride battery indicates VTech's participation in an industry program to collect and recycle these batteries. This provides an alternative to disposing of them in trash or municipal waste. Contact 1 (800) 8 BATTERY® for information on battery recycling and disposal restrictions.
