Important Safety and Installation Notes
National guidelines concerning the approval of installations must be observed. Any modifications or alterations to the tow bar are prohibited and will void the operating license. Remove any insulating compound or underbody coating from the vehicle in the area of the tow bar's contact surfaces. The tow bar is intended for towing trailers and for carrying loads; other uses are prohibited.
Vehicles equipped with parking assistance systems may experience malfunctions after tow bar installation due to components (e.g., ball bar, coupling ball) potentially being within the sensor's detection range. In such cases, the detection range should be adjusted, or the parking assistance system deactivated. For tow bars with removable or pivoting ball bars, parking assistance malfunctions are unlikely when the ball bar is not in the operating position.
The tow bar is a safety-critical component and must only be fitted by qualified companies. Improper assembly can result in a serious accident hazard. The German text of this instruction is binding. Subject to change.
Installation Steps Overview
The following steps outline the general installation process. Refer to the diagrams for specific details:
- Preparation: Identify the vehicle model (Audi Q3 or VW Tiguan 2007→). Remove any protective or insulating material from the vehicle's underbody in the mounting area.
- Bumper Removal/Modification (if applicable): Diagrams show the rear of the vehicles and indicate areas for potential bumper modification or removal.
- Mounting the Tow Bar Frame: The main tow bar frame is attached to the vehicle's chassis using specified bolts and washers. Torque specifications are provided (e.g., M10x35 bolts to 55 Nm, M12x75 bolts to 95 Nm).
- Attaching the Tow Ball: The tow ball assembly (part 2) is attached to the tow bar frame (part 1) using bolts (part 3) and washers.
- Electrical Connection: While not detailed in the diagrams, electrical connections for trailer lights are typically required.
- Final Checks: Ensure all components are securely fastened and torqued correctly.
Technical Specifications and Diagrams
The document includes detailed diagrams illustrating the mounting points, hardware, and torque specifications for both the Audi Q3 and VW Tiguan models. Key dimensions and clearances are also provided, adhering to ECE-R 55 regulations.
Diagrams illustrate:
- Vehicle rear views indicating mounting locations.
- Exploded views of the tow bar assembly and hardware.
- Torque settings for various bolts (e.g., M10x35, M12x75).
- Clearance requirements according to ECE-R 55 (Appendix 7, Figures 25a and 25b).
- Weight ratings and vehicle compatibility.
Declaration of Correct Installation
A declaration form is included for the installer to confirm correct installation according to the manufacturer's specifications and vehicle attachment points. The installer must also confirm that the vehicle user has been informed about the use and maintenance of the tow bar.
