Notices and Disc Protection
Notes on Handling
- The top and rear panels may become warm after extended use; this is not a malfunction.
- When the unit is not in use, remove the disc and turn off the power.
- If the unit will not be used for a long period, it may not function properly in the future. Turn it ON and use it occasionally.
- Do not place foreign objects on the disc tray.
Location
Do not locate the unit in places such as:
- Near heating devices or in enclosed cars.
- High temperature (47°C/116.6°F or higher) or high humidity (90% or higher).
- Dirty places.
- Avoid direct exposure to sunlight.
Disturbance
Placing this unit near a TV, radio, or VCR may result in poor playback picture and distorted sound. In such cases, place the unit away from these devices.
Notes on Moisture Condensation
The pickup may condense with water under the following situations:
- When bringing the unit directly from a cold place to a warm place.
- When using the unit in a room where the heater was just turned on, or where cold air from an air conditioner directly hits the unit.
- During summer, when using the unit in a hot and humid place after moving it from an air-conditioned room.
- When the room is vaporous or damp.
If condensation exists, the unit will not operate properly. Remove the disc, connect the unit's power cord to the wall outlet, turn on the unit, and leave it for two to three hours. This will allow the unit to warm up and evaporate any moisture. Keep the unit connected to the wall outlet; moisture condensation will seldom occur.
On Handling Discs
- Do not touch the playback side of the disc.
- Do not attach paper or tape to the disc.
On Cleaning Discs
- Fingerprints and dust on the disc can cause picture and sound deterioration. Wipe the disc from the center outwards with a soft cloth. Always keep the disc clean.
- If dust cannot be wiped off with a soft cloth, lightly moisten a soft cloth and wipe the disc, then finish with a dry cloth.
- Do not use solvents such as thinner, benzine, commercially available cleaners, or antistatic spray for vinyl LPs, as this may damage the disc.
On Storing Discs
- Do not store discs in a place subject to direct sunlight or near a heat source.
- Do not store discs in places subject to moisture and dust, such as a bathroom or near a humidifier.
- Store discs vertically in a case. Stacking or placing objects on discs outside their case may cause warping.
Structure of Disc Contents
Normally, DVD discs are divided into titles, and titles are sub-divided into chapters. Audio CDs are divided into tracks.
- Discs other than those listed above cannot be played.
- Non-standardized discs, even if labeled as above, may not be playable.
- The performance of a recorded disc depends on the method and quality of disc burning. In some cases, the disc may not be played.

MPEG-4 Disc Function Introduction
MPEG-4 is an advanced video and audio encoding standard. It offers high compression for quality video and audio. MPEG-4 technology allows encoding DVD films onto fewer discs or burning multiple films onto a single disc with good quality.
Note: MPEG-4 discs may have various formats (Xvid, AVI, RM). Discs labeled "MPEG-4" may not use MPEG technology and might not function properly.
Playback Details
MPEG-4 File Playback
- MPEG-4 files are displayed as a list. Use cursors to select an icon and press "ENTER/PLAY" to play the movie.
- AVI is an MPEG-4 format. Do not combine AVI with MP3/JPEG on the same disc, as the player may only recognize MP3 or JPEG. MP3 and JPEG can be included together.
Playback (Normal)

Press "PAUSE" to display an image indefinitely. Use "NEXT" or "PREV" to view other pictures. Press "ENTER/PLAY" to resume the slideshow.
Image Rotation
Four rotation modes are available: "Invert", "Mirror", "Left", and "Right". These are active only when a picture is displayed normally and cancel automatically when a new picture is displayed. Use arrow keys to select rotation modes.
Zoom
The "ZOOM" key activates/deactivates zoom. When active, pictures display at the last selected ratio. The screen indicates the current zoom ratio. The ZOOM key controls zoom in/out. When ZOOM is off, pictures scale to fit the screen.
Notes: Slide-show transition and image rotation are disabled during zoom. Press the "ZOOM" key again to resume the slideshow.
Important Note

PC-Created Disc Compatibility
Discs created using personal computer software may not be playable due to application settings. Check with the software publisher for details. Discs recorded in packet write mode (UDF format) are not compatible. Check DVD-R/RW or CD-R/RW software disc boxes for compatibility information.
