Safety Information
Precautions
- Keep this instruction manual in a safe place for future reference.
- Do not cut off the ground pin or use an adapter fitting.
- Do not use an extension cord.
- The pump power cord must be connected to a separately fused, grounded line with a minimum capacity of 15 A. It can be connected to a non-fuse breaker at the recommended amperes.
- Installation and electrical wiring must adhere to provincial and local codes and must be completed before priming the pump. Consult appropriate community agencies or local electrical and pump professionals.
- The voltage of the power supply must match the voltage of the pump.
- Place the pump on dedicated circuits to avoid low voltage.
- Plastic PVC pipe can be installed in the outlet piping. A drain hose, galvanized steel, or copper pipe may be used if desired. All piping must be clean and free of all foreign matter to prevent clogging.
- The pump will be inadequate if suspension liquids contain solid particles larger than 2 in. (5.1 cm).
Limitations
This pump is designed exclusively for SEWAGE WATER TRANSFER applications, i.e., transferring water with up to 2 in. suspended solids. It is NOT intended for pumping clear water from sump pits, hot water applications, water fountain/features applications, etc.
Dangers and Warnings
❗ DANGER: Keep pump equipment out of the reach of children! Failure to follow directions could cause serious risk to individuals or objects.
⚠️ WARNING: Failure to follow instructions may damage the pump and/or the system.
⚠️ WARNING: Do not work on the pump until power is unplugged.
⚠️ WARNING: Before installing or servicing this pump, ensure the power source is disconnected.
⚠️ WARNING: These pumps have a grounding conductor and a grounding type attachment plug. Do not connect the pump to a power supply until permanently grounded. For maximum safety, connect the pump to a circuit equipped with a fault interrupter device.
⚠️ WARNING: The sewage basin must be vented in accordance with local plumbing codes. These pumps are not designed for and cannot be installed in locations classified as hazardous.
⚠️ WARNING: The following actions may cause severe damage to the pump and void the warranty:
- Using an extension cord
- Cutting off the ground pin or using an adapter fitting
- Working on the pump or switch while plugged in
- Removing motor housing, unscrewing impeller, or removing impeller seal
- Running the pump continuously
- Pumping chemicals or corrosive liquids
- Pumping gasoline or other flammable liquids
Electrical Safety
⚠️ WARNING: Verify that the voltage and frequency of the pump on the nameplate correspond to available mains power. Ensure the electrical system is grounded according to code.
⚠️ WARNING: For outdoor use, protect the plug and connection from water splashes. Visually inspect the pump, power cable, and plug before use.
⚠️ WARNING: Do not use the pump if it is damaged.
⚠️ WARNING: If the pump is damaged, have it inspected by an authorized service center.
⚠️ WARNING: Ensure electrical connections are protected from flooding. Protect the plug and power cable from heat or sharp edges.
⚠️ WARNING: The power cable must be replaced by qualified personnel only. The plug has a double grounding contact for grounding.
Overload Protection
This pump series has a built-in thermal protection switch to prevent motor burnout from overheating/overloading. The overload protector automatically resets when the motor cools down. If the overload trips frequently, check for causes such as a stuck impeller, incorrect voltage, or electrical failure in the motor. If motor failure is suspected, have it serviced by a competent repairman.

Pre-Installation
Installation Requirements
The pump features an on/off float switch for automatic operation. Refer to installation instructions included with switches and controllers.
- Prevent the pump from running dry.
- Install the pump in a suitable gas-tight basin with a minimum diameter of 18 inches and a minimum depth of 36 inches, vented according to local plumbing codes.
- Place the pump on a hard, level surface. Avoid clay, earth, or gravel surfaces.
- The pump can be installed with ABS, PVC, polyethylene, or galvanized steel pipe. Use proper adapters for plastic pipe connections.
- Install a union in the discharge line above the sump pit for easy pump removal for cleaning or repair.
- A check valve must be used in the discharge line to prevent backflow. The check valve should allow solids to pass easily.
- ❗ CAUTION: For best performance with solids, install check valves horizontally or at an angle not exceeding 45°. Do not install vertically, as solids may settle and prevent opening.
- When using a check valve, drill a 3/16-inch relief hole in the discharge pipe below the floor line between the pump discharge and the check valve. This prevents air-lock.
- A gate valve should follow the check valve for periodic cleaning or pump removal.
- Keep the discharge line as short as possible with minimal turns to reduce friction head loss. Do not restrict discharge to sizes below 2 inches.
- Sewage and effluent applications require a separate sump vent, connected to the building vent or extended outside.
Performance Chart
The following chart shows the pump's performance at different total feet of lift:
SKU | HP | Volt | Amps | GPH of Water @ Total Feet of Lift | Max. Lift | |||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
0 ft. | 5 ft. | 10 ft. | 15 ft. | |||||
1000 803 410 | 1/2 | 115V | 10 | 5700 | 4980 | 4020 | 2520 | 18FT |
Materials Required (Not Included)
Ensure you have the following items before using the pump:
- 2 in. Discharge pipe
- Thread sealant tape
- 2 in. Check valve
- 2 in. Elbow
- 2 in. Union
- 2 in. Nipple pipe
- 2 in. Gate valve
NOTE: The consumer/installer should purchase either a pre-threaded 2 in. MNPT pipe (or unthreaded pipe and pipe threader) or a 2 in. adapter (2in. MNPT x 2in. OD slip fit).
Installation
1. Connecting a discharge pipe to the pump
- Wrap the threads of the 2 in. discharge pipe with thread sealant tape.
- Attach the discharge pipe to the pump's discharge port.

Operation
1. Connecting Power
- Plug the pump power cord into a 115V GFCI power outlet.
- Allow the pump to operate through several on-off cycles to ensure proper function.
2. Operating the Pump
- The pump operates when the float switch moves upward, and stops when the water level lowers the float switch.
NOTE: Ensure the pump is submerged in water. Running the pump dry can damage it.

Care and Cleaning
To clear a pump clogged with debris:
- Unplug the pump to disconnect electrical power.
- Unscrew the volute screw and the five screws on the seal plate. Remove the volute.
- Remove debris from around the impeller.
- Reassemble the pump.

Troubleshooting
⚠️ WARNING: Before servicing, shut off the main power breaker and unplug the pump. In flooded conditions, ensure you are not standing in water and wear insulated footwear. Contact a qualified electrician for service.
❗ CAUTION: Call an electrician if in doubt. Connect the pump to a separate 15 A circuit breaker or fuse block. Plugging into existing outlets may cause low voltage, blown fuses, or motor overload.
