Safety Information
General Riding Safety:
Your electric bicycle can provide years of service and enjoyment if ridden safely and responsibly.
Always Wear a Helmet:
Helmets significantly reduce head injury severity. Always wear a helmet compliant with local and state laws. Consult local police for specific requirements. Avoid loose-fitting clothing that could get caught in moving parts. Wear close-toed shoes. Ensure you wear appropriate apparel and protective gear.
Know Your WAVE Electric Bicycle:
This manual thoroughly explains the features and functions of your WAVE bicycle to enhance your riding experience.
Ride Defensively:
Be aware of common accident scenarios, such as car doors opening unexpectedly or other vehicles/cyclists entering your path. Always be aware of your surroundings, vehicles, and pedestrians. Do not assume you are seen. Be prepared for evasive maneuvers or sudden stops.
Be Visible to Others:
Enhance visibility by wearing bright reflective clothing. Keep reflectors clean and aligned. Use your headlight in low-light conditions. Signal your intentions clearly to drivers and other cyclists. Use your bell to make your presence known.
Ride Within Your Limits:
Start slowly and familiarize yourself with local riding conditions. Be cautious in wet conditions, as traction and braking effectiveness are reduced. Never exceed your abilities or ride faster than conditions permit. Avoid riding under the influence of alcohol, drugs, fatigue, or distractions, as these impair judgment.
Distraction Warning:
Do not use your mobile phone while riding – this can cause distraction and reduce alertness.
Bicycle Maintenance:
Ensure your bicycle is well-maintained. Follow inspection and maintenance guidelines. Check critical safety equipment before each ride.
Know the Law:
Cyclists must adhere to traffic laws. Some communities have regulations regarding motorized vehicles, including age limits, requirements, and equipment. Check with your local police department for specific details.
Off-road Riding:
Off-road riding is not recommended. The bicycle tires are designed for street use only. Dust and extreme impacts from off-road riding can cause electrical system problems.
Care & Maintenance
Storage:
- Avoid storing in direct sunlight; high temperatures can damage the battery and bicycle.
- Avoid storing in wet conditions.
- Test the battery at least once a month to ensure it maintains full charging capabilities, as it can lose power when idle.
- Avoid leaving the bicycle and battery idle for extended periods to prevent battery failure.
- Batteries may lose power faster in winter due to low temperatures.
- Inappropriate storage can shorten battery life or cause mechanical issues. Store the electric bicycle indoors in a cool, dry place.
Cleaning:
Before cleaning, turn off the bicycle, unplug the charger, and cover the charging port. Keep water and moisture away from the charging port. Use a dry or damp cloth to clean cables. Do not spray water directly on the bicycle or battery. Do not immerse the electric bicycle in water, as this will cause permanent damage.
Battery Recycling:
Recycle batteries responsibly to protect the environment. Do not dispose of batteries in household trash. Consult local sanitation department guidelines for safe disposal of batteries and parts.
Tire Maintenance:
Ensure tires are inflated correctly. Do not overinflate. Maintain consistent pressure in both tires. The recommended tire pressure is 36 PSI. For any flat tires, seek assistance from an experienced bicycle shop mechanic.
