Safety Precautions
Please adhere to the following safety regulations to prevent any hazard or material damage.
WARNING
Violating these instructions can cause serious injury or death.
- Do not plug several products into one multi-outlet. This can provoke over-heating and fire. Ensure plugs fit outlets properly and use only standardized multi-outlets.
- Use only the supplied adapter; using other adapters is dangerous.
- Do not pull the cable to unplug; this can damage the cable and cause fire or breakdown.
- Keep plastic bags out of children's reach to prevent suffocation.
- Do not plug in or unplug with wet hands; you can be electrocuted.
- Do not bend the cable by force or leave it under heavy objects; a damaged cable can cause a fire.
CAUTION
Violating these instructions can cause slight wound or damage the appliance.
- If you observe strange smoke, odor, or noise, switch off and unplug the printer before calling your dealer.
- Keep desiccant out of children's reach; they may eat it.
- Install the printer on a stable surface to prevent it from falling and causing injury or damage.
- Use only approved accessories. Do not attempt to disassemble, repair, or remodel the printer yourself; contact your dealer for service.
- Do not touch the blade of the Media tear bar (or auto cutter).
- Do not let water or other foreign objects into the printer. If this occurs, switch off and unplug the printer before calling your dealer.
- Do not use the printer when it is out of order, as this can cause fire or electrocution. Switch off and unplug before calling your dealer.
Battery Safety Precautions
Review the user manual carefully prior to product use. Neglecting these instructions can result in battery overheating, combustion, explosion, damage, and/or decline in performance and product life.
Danger
- Do not allow water, seawater, or moisture to enter or leak into the battery. This can oxidize the safety mechanism, leading to overcharging, overheating, ignition, or explosion.
- Do not place the battery near open flames or heating devices. Excessive heat can damage the resin case and insulating materials, causing short circuits, overheating, combustion, or explosion.
- Charge the battery only with the BIXOLON-specified charger. Using an incorrect charger may result in overheating, combustion, or explosion.
- Charging with a modified charger or incorrect polarity may cause abnormal chemical reactions, leading to overheating, combustion, or explosion.
- Do not directly connect the battery to an electrical power outlet not specified by BIXOLON or an automobile's cigarette lighter jack. This may cause overheating, combustion, or explosion due to over-current or over-voltage.
- Do not heat the battery or place it near a fire. This may melt insulation, damage the safety mechanism, or ignite the electrolytic solution, risking overheating, combustion, or explosion.
- Do not reverse the battery's (+) and (-) connections. Reverse polarity charging can cause undesired chemical reactions, leading to overheating, explosion, or fire.
- Do not allow the battery's poles to contact metal items. Do not carry or store the battery with metallic items (necklaces, hairpins) to prevent short circuits and potential overheating, ignition, or explosion.
- Do not throw the battery or subject it to strong shock. Damage to the safety mechanism can lead to overcharging and adverse chemical reactions, risking overheating, combustion, or explosion.
- Do not pierce the battery with pointed objects or strike it with heavy objects. Avoid stepping on the battery, as this can cause internal short circuits, overheating, combustion, or explosion.
- Do not solder the battery directly, as this can melt insulating materials and damage the safety mechanism, leading to overheating, combustion, or explosion.
- Do not disassemble or modify the battery. The battery contains safety equipment and mechanisms to prevent danger; disassembly risks overheating, combustion, or explosion.
- Do not charge the battery near open flames or direct sunlight. High temperatures can trigger the safety mechanism, preventing proper charging or causing overcharging, risking overheating, combustion, or explosion.
- Do not expose the battery to temperatures over 60°C or use/store it in hot or humid places.
- Do not use the battery if it is damaged, deformed, or swollen due to external shock.
Warning
- Keep the battery away from small children to prevent swallowing accidents. If swallowed, consult a physician immediately.
- Do not place the battery in a microwave oven or high-voltage appliance, as this can cause rapid overheating and destruction of the sealing, leading to overheating, combustion, or explosion.
- Do not combine batteries of different capacities or types with the primary battery. This can cause excessive discharge or charging, leading to abnormal chemical reactions, overheating, combustion, or explosion.
- If you detect strange odors or conditions (overheating, color changes, warping) during usage, storage, or charging, remove the battery and discontinue use. Continued use may cause overheating, combustion, or explosion.
- If the battery is not fully charged after the normal charging time, discontinue charging. Continued charging can result in overheating, combustion, or explosion.
- If the battery appears to have condensation or emits a strange odor, move it away from heat sources. Condensation may indicate a leak of electrolytic solution that can ignite and cause combustion or explosion.
- If the battery leaks electrolytic solution and it contacts eyes, wash immediately with clean water and consult a physician to prevent permanent eye injuries.
Caution
- Do not use or leave the battery in locations exposed to high temperatures or intense direct sunlight (e.g., inside an automobile). This can cause overheating and/or combustion, reducing performance and product life.
- Do not use the battery in locations prone to static electricity, as this can damage the safety mechanism, leading to overheating, combustion, or explosion.
- Observe the following temperature ranges for battery usage: Charging: 0-40°C; Product Usage: -20-60°C; Storage: -20-60°C (30 days); Long-Term Storage: -20-40°C (90 days). Usage outside these ranges can cause overheating, damage, and reduced performance/life.
- Review the exclusive charger manual for charging instructions.
- If you observe abnormal symptoms (strange smell, overheating) upon first use, contact your local dealer immediately.
- If a child uses the battery, the parent or legal guardian must explain the manual's instructions and periodically confirm adherence.
- Store the battery, charger, and product out of reach of small children.
- If the battery leaks electrolytic solution and it contacts skin or clothing, wash thoroughly with clean water to prevent skin disorders.
- Review the user manual and precautions carefully before use and store them in a secure location for future reference.
- Replace with an incorrect battery risks explosion. Use only BIXOLON-specified models. Insulate used batteries with tape and dispose of them according to local regulations.
- Using the printed side of preprinted media may cause malfunction.
Recommended
- Review the user manual for battery insertion/removal instructions.
- The shipped battery is partially charged; charge it fully with the supplied charger before first use or long operation.
- Review the user manual carefully to avoid improper battery use.
- Do not charge the battery for excessively long periods beyond the indicated time.
- If the battery is not to be used for a long time, remove it and store it in a low-humidity location. Storage in high humidity can cause oxidization and performance decline.
- Turn off the equipment after use to prevent battery performance degradation.
- Batteries may fail to charge if unused for extended periods. Charge at least every six months if the equipment is not used.
- If the battery terminal is contaminated, clean it with a dry cloth before use. Contaminated contacts can cause power supply or charging issues.
- Each battery has a life cycle. Replace the battery if usage time is shortened. Insulate and dispose of used batteries according to local regulations.

Installation & Usage
3-1 Battery Installation
- Insert the battery into the bottom of the printer, ensuring the battery hook aligns properly.
- Push the battery into the slot until it snaps into place.
NOTE: The battery is partially charged upon purchase. Charge it fully before product use (using the battery charger or optional Single/Quad battery charger).
3-2 Battery Charging
3-2-1 Using Battery Charger
- Turn off the printer power.
- Connect the power cord [icon-2] to the battery charger [icon-1], then connect to AC power.
- Open the external interface cap in the direction of [icon-3].
- Connect the battery charger to the power connector.
CAUTION: The printer may incur serious damage if a charger not provided by BIXOLON is used. BIXOLON is not liable for such damages. Ensure voltage and electrical current specifications match.
WARNING: Turn off the power before charging the battery.
3-2-2 Using Single Battery Cradle (Optional)
- Connect the power cord [icon-2] to the battery charger [icon-1].
- Connect the battery charger [icon-1] to the power connector of the single battery cradle [icon-3].
- Plug the power cord [icon-2] into an electrical outlet.
- Insert the battery [icon-4] into the single battery cradle [icon-3] until a snapping sound is heard.
3-2-3 Using Cigarette Lighter Charger (Optional)
- Turn off the power to the printer.
- Connect the cigarette lighter charger [icon-1] to your car's cigarette lighter jack.
- Open the external interface protection cap in the direction of [icon-2].
- Connect the cigarette lighter charger to the power connector.
CAUTION: The printer may be seriously damaged if a charger not provided by BIXOLON is used. BIXOLON is not liable for such damage.
WARNING: Turn off the power before charging the battery.
3-2-4 Using Quad Battery Charger (Optional)
3-2-4-1 Connecting the cables
- Connect the power cord to the adapter, and connect the adapter to the power connector of the quad battery charger.
- Plug the power cord into a power outlet. Input power: 100-240VAC, 50/60Hz, 1.0A.
- When power is supplied, the yellow, green, and red LEDs will turn on for three seconds, performing a self-test.
WARNING: Use only the designated AC/DC adapter (12VDC, 3A).
3-2-4-2 Charging Battery (Printer)
- Insert the battery into the Quad charger as shown in the figure.
- Gently slide the battery until it reaches the bottom of the charger.
- Charging starts as soon as the battery is completely inserted.
- After charging, remove the battery from the Quad charger.

CAUTION:
- If the red lamp of the charger blinks, reinstall the battery.
- If the red lamp continues to blink after several attempts (4-5 times), contact your local dealer.
- Charging time may vary depending on the charger type or ambient temperature.
3-3 Media Installation
- Press the Open button to open the media cover.
- Insert the media as shown (remove the empty core).
- Align the media as shown.
- Pull out the media and close the media cover.
- Tear off any excess media toward the side of the printer.
3-4 Using Belt Clip
- Insert the belt clip screw into the belt clip mounting hole.
- Tighten the screw with an object like a coin, ensuring correct direction.
- Slide the clip over the belt.
3-5 Using Belt Strap (Optional)
- Insert the belt strap screw into the belt strap hole.
- Use a coin to tighten the belt strap screw.
- Unfasten the belt strap Velcro.
- Slide the belt strap over a belt.
- Close the Velcro.
3-6 Using Deattachable Media Holder (Optional, Only SPP-L310)
- Release the disk lock and insert it into the spindle, positioning the disc so the media width matches the scale on the spindle.
- After inserting the disc, engage the locking device.
- Load the media onto the spindle.
- After inserting the rest of the disks, fasten the lock.
- Insert the media holder.
3-7 Using Control Panel
- Power Button: Press for approximately 2 seconds to turn the printer on or off.
- Media Feed Button: Press to feed media manually. Also used for self-testing and Hexadecimal Dumping (refer to Section 4 and service manual).
- Battery Status LED (Blue or Red):
- Three blue LEDs: Fully charged.
- Two blue LEDs: Half charged.
- One blue LED: Lowest charge level.
- Red LED: Battery needs charging or replacement.
- Error LED (Left-sided):
- Red LED lit: Media cover is open.
- Red LED blinking: Media depleted or print head overheated (replace media or turn off printer for 10 minutes).
- Red LED continues blinking: Indicates a more serious problem; contact authorized service dealer.
- Bluetooth & Wireless LAN Lamp (Right-sided):
- Bluetooth: Green lamp and battery status lamp turn on when ready for communication.
- Wireless LAN: Indicator shows signal strength. Green blinks for acceptable strength, red blinks for weak strength. In power save mode, only the Status lamp is lit.
3-8 Using MSR (Optional, Only SPP-R310)
- Insert the card and swipe in the direction of the arrow (both directions possible).
NOTE: If the card does not register, check alignment. Recommended swiping speed is 100-1200 mm/sec.
3-9 Recommended Media
- Receipt media: PD 160R (Media Thickness 75µm), New Oji Media Mfg. Co., Ltd.
- Linerless media: T6087 (Media Thickness 76µm), Blumberg GmbH & Co. KG
Self-Test
Run the self-test when setting up the printer or encountering problems. It checks Control Circuit, Mechanisms, Print Quality, ROM Version, and Memory Switch Settings. If no issues are found, examine other devices or software.
Self-Test Instructions:
- Turn the printer power off and close the media cover.
- Press and hold the media feed button and power button simultaneously to turn on the printer.
- Release the buttons after printing begins.
- The self-test automatically terminates after printing.

Label Printing Function
5-1 Label Function Setting
Label media and black mark media are available in label mode. The SPP-R310 is set to receipt mode, and the SPP-L310 is set to label mode by default.
How to set label mode and receipt mode:
- Turn on the printer power.
- Open the media cover and press and hold the media feed button for longer than two seconds.
- After the buzzer tone, insert media and close the cover.
- Repeat the steps above to return to receipt mode.
SPP-L310 prints the following message when switching to Label Mode:
- Gap mode: FEED button
- BlackMark mode: POWER button
Press the FEED button to switch to gap mode, and the Power button to switch to black mark mode. The SPP-R310 automatically sets itself based on the sensor position.
Setting Via Utility:
SPP-R310 can be set in Unified Utility, and SPP-L310 in Unified Label Utility.
5-2 Auto Calibration Function
The label printing function requires recognition of label media gaps and black mark media black bars. If label media is not recognized properly, use the auto calibration function.
SPP-R310 Auto Calibration:
- Turn the printer power off while in label mode.
- Press and hold the media feed button, then press the power button.
- After the printout, press the power button to perform auto calibration.
Select the mode: Auto Calibration: Power Button; Self Test: Feed Button.
SPP-L310 Auto Calibration:
- Load media and press the FEED button to automatically detect it.
- In continuous mode, media feed operation is not performed to recognize label media. Refer to 5-1 for switching to label mode.
- If the printer is set to Black Mark, Gap media recognition is not possible. Refer to 5-1 or change the sensor type using Unified Utility.
Peripherals Connection
This product can communicate with other devices via Bluetooth, Wireless LAN, and cable.
6-1 Bluetooth & Wireless LAN Connection
- The printer can connect to devices with Bluetooth capacity (PDAs, PCs, etc.).
- Use the device's Bluetooth connection function to connect to the printer. The built-in NFC tag enables automatic pairing.
NOTE: The device must support NFC Auto Pairing. It is normal if a message indicates connection failure as NFC Auto Pairing is supported up to B/T pairing, and manual connection may be required.
- The printer can connect to stations supporting wireless LAN in Ad-hoc/SoftAP mode and AP in Infrastructure mode.
NOTE: Refer to the Bluetooth Wireless LAN Manual for detailed connection information. Check Bluetooth environment (authentication, encryption, connection mode) and Wireless LAN environment (IP, SSID, authentication, encryption) via the self-test page.
6-2 Interface Cable Connection
- Open the Interface Cap [icon-1].
- Connect the external communication cable (optional) [icon-2] to the printer's cable connector.
NOTE: Use only BIXOLON-provided cables.
- Connect the interface cable to the USB port of the device (PDAs, PCs, etc.).
NOTE: The printer supports both USB and Serial interface cables. Refer to the service manual for detailed specifications.
Printer Cleaning
Dusty interiors can reduce print quality. Follow these instructions:
- Open the media cover and remove any media.
- Clean the printhead (A) using a cloth or cotton swab soaked in medical alcohol.
- Using a similar swab, remove dust from the black mark sensor (B). The sensor may be located in the middle, left, or right.
- Wait one to two minutes for the alcohol to evaporate completely before using the printer.
- Insert media and close the media cover.
Caution:
- Ensure the printer power is off before cleaning.
- Wait 2-3 minutes after power-off before cleaning the printhead, as it may be very hot.
- Do not touch the printhead's heating region with your hand.
- The printhead can be damaged by static electricity.
- Avoid scratching the printhead.
- Periodically clean the printhead, especially when using linerless media (recommended after consuming 20 rolls or weekly). Neglecting cleaning can degrade print quality or shorten printhead life.
Warning: Use only BIXOLON-provided linerless media. Using other media voids the product warranty.

Warning - Lithium-Ion Battery Pack
The battery has potential risks of overheating, fire, and/or explosion. Observe the following instructions:
- A visibly swollen battery may be dangerous; contact BIXOLON or your local dealer.
- Only use an eligible charger.
- Keep away from open flames (do not place in a microwave).
- Do not leave the battery pack inside a vehicle in summertime.
- Do not store or use in hot and humid places like saunas.
- Do not place the battery pack on quilts, electric blankets, or carpets for extended periods.
- Do not store the battery pack switched on in an enclosed place for long periods.
- Do not allow the battery port to touch metal items (necklace, coin, key, clock, etc.).
- Use lithium secondary cells guaranteed by mobile phone manufacturers or BIXOLON.
- Do not disassemble, compress, or pierce the battery pack.
- Do not drop the battery pack from a high place or subject it to strong shock.
- Do not expose the battery to temperatures over 60°C.
- Do not expose to humidity.
Disposal Directions:
- Do not dispose of used battery packs carelessly.
- Do not burn or throw batteries in a fire, as this risks fire and/or explosion.
- Dispose of battery packs according to country or region-specific methods.
Recommendation for Charging:
- Charge your battery pack according to the instruction manual to avoid risks of fire or explosion.
