Avoid impact, extreme pressure, or heavy vibration. There are no user-serviceable parts; refer servicing to qualified personnel.
Safety
- Check mains lead condition and supply voltage.
- Ensure signal leads are in good condition and connected to appropriate inputs/outputs.
- Do not allow foreign particles into the unit through controls or connectors.
Placement
- Keep out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources.
- Keep away from damp or dusty environments.
- When rack-mounting, avoid placing heavy units above and ensure controls are accessible.
Cleaning
- Use a soft cloth with a neutral detergent for the casing.
- Use a soft brush for debris on the control surface.
- Do not use strong solvents.
Front Panel
Controls
The front panel features a power switch and indicator, five sets of LINE 1 and LINE 2 source volume controls, five MONO mode switches with indicators, and Line 1 and Line 2 signal indicators.
- 1. POWER switch and indicator
- 2. LINE 1 source volume controls for each zone
- 3. MONO mode switch and indicator for each zone
- 4. LINE 2 source volume controls for each zone
- 5. LINE 1 and 2 signal indicators
Rear Panel
Connectors
The rear panel includes balanced XLR inputs for Line 2 (left and right) and Line 1 (left and right), and balanced XLR outputs for Zones 1 through 5 (left and right). It also has an IEC mains inlet with a fuse holder.
- 6. LINE 2 left & right inputs (balanced XLRF)
- 7. LINE 1 left & right inputs (balanced XLRF)
- 8. ZONES 1 to 5 left & right outputs (balanced XLRM)
- 9. IEC mains inlet and fuse
Applications
The Z5M is suitable for multi-output setups and multi-room zoning sound systems with up to 5 stereo or mono zones. Zones can be set to mono based on speaker placement. Two separate stereo inputs can be selected or blended per zone, allowing for different program material in each zone.
Connection
All connections use balanced XLR at line level. Use quality XLR leads for source signals to LINE 1 and LINE 2 inputs. Connect outputs to respective amplifiers or active speakers using quality XLR leads. Connect mains using the supplied IEC lead.
Operation
Set amplifier and speaker volumes down. Turn zone levels to MIN for both LINE 1 and LINE 2. Select MONO for zones suited to mono output. Press POWER. Play signals connected to LINE 1 and LINE 2; LINE SIGNAL LEDs should indicate presence. Gradually adjust LINE 1 and LINE 2 volumes for each zone. Before powering down, turn down amplifier and speaker volumes.

Troubleshooting
Issue | Solution |
---|---|
No function and Power switch LED is not lit | Ensure mains voltage is correct and connected. Ensure front panel power switch and mains outlet switch are on. |
Power is on but no audio output | Check all XLR leads are OK and connected properly. Check LINE 1 and LINE 2 controls are not fully down. Check inputs/outputs are connected correctly. |
Distorted output | Reduce LINE 1 and LINE 2 level controls, increasing amp level to compensate. Reduce source signal level. Ensure correct line level is selected on amplifier/active speaker inputs. Ensure input source is line level (0.775Vrms). |
Output is very low level | Increase LINE 1 and/or LINE 2 level controls. Increase signal source level. |
