Schiit Gjallarhorn F Compact Speaker Amplifier
This document provides essential information for setting up, operating, and maintaining your Schiit Gjallarhorn F compact speaker amplifier.
Connections
The rear panel of the Gjallarhorn F features various input and output jacks. Please refer to the diagram below for location identification.
The rear panel includes:
- 1. Stereo RCA Inputs: For connecting a stereo audio source. Connect both left and right channels. Do not connect to the XLR socket when using stereo RCA.
- 2. Stereo Speaker Outputs: For connecting stereo speakers. Use banana-terminated cables. "L" is for the left speaker, and "R" is for the right speaker. Black is ground, red is hot.
- 3. Mono Balanced XLR Input: For connecting a mono balanced audio source. An XLR cable is required. Do not connect to the RCA inputs when using mono XLR.
- 4. Mono Speaker Output: For connecting a single speaker in mono mode. Use the two center jacks. "+" is positive, "-" is negative. Both terminals are active. Avoid shorting the negative terminals together to prevent the amplifier from entering protection mode.
- 5. AC Power Inlet: Connect the provided power cord here.
- 6. Power Switch: Turns the amplifier on and off.
- 7. Forkbeard Module Slot: For plugging in a Forkbeard module to enhance amp health monitoring, standby functions, and system integration with other Schiit products.
Important Notes:
- The amplifier will not operate wirelessly.
- There is a short delay (approximately 10 seconds) after turning the amp on until the relay clicks, indicating it is ready for use.
Operation
The front panel features controls and indicators for operating the amplifier.
The front panel includes:
- 1. Mute Button: Press this button to mute the amplifier's output. The Gjallarhorn F uses very little power when idle, but muting further reduces consumption.
- 2. LED Indicator: This LED is lit when the amplifier is operational. When the output is muted, the LED will pulse slowly.
Protection Mode
The Gjallarhorn F is equipped with protection circuitry to safeguard against over-current, over-temperature, and excessive DC. If the amplifier "clicks" and the LED flashes, it has entered protection mode.
Troubleshooting Protection Mode
If your Gjallarhorn F enters protection mode, check the following:
- Shorted Speaker Cables: Ensure your speaker cables are not shorted. Shorted cables are a common cause for the amplifier to enter protection.
- Speaker Problems: Speakers can sometimes develop internal shorts. Verify by checking with a voltmeter or trying a different pair of speakers.
- Low-Impedance or Inefficient Speakers: The Gjallarhorn F may enter protection mode when used with very low impedance or inefficient speakers.
- Listening Volume: While a capable amplifier, the Gjallarhorn F is best suited for desktop use or small rooms. For very high power demands or larger spaces, consider a more powerful amplifier like the Schiit Vidar.
In the Box
Your Gjallarhorn F package should contain:
- (1) Gjallarhorn F Amplifier
- (1) Power Cord
- (1) Forkbeard Module (if ordered)
- (Infinite) Appreciation from the Schiit crew
