1. Declaration of Conformity

Metabo declares that the angle grinders, identified by type and serial number, comply with all relevant requirements of the directives and standards. For UK, similar declarations are made regarding UK regulations.

2. Specified Use

The cordless angle grinders are suitable for grinding, sanding, cutting-off, and wire brushing metal, concrete, stone, and similar materials without water. Improper use is the user's sole responsibility. Accident prevention regulations and safety information must be observed.

3. General Safety Instructions

WARNING – Read operating instructions to reduce injury risk. Always wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including face shield, safety goggles, dust mask, hearing protection, gloves, and apron. Keep bystanders at a safe distance. Use insulated gripping surfaces only. Never lay the tool down until the accessory has stopped. Do not run the tool while carrying it at your side. Regularly clean air vents. Do not operate near flammable materials or use with liquid coolants.

4. Special Safety Instructions

4.1 Safety Warnings Common for Grinding, Sanding, Wire Brushing or Cutting-Off Operations:

This power tool is intended for specific operations. Do not use for polishing or any unintended purpose. Use only Metabo-specified accessories. Ensure accessory speed rating is adequate. Accessory diameter and thickness must match tool capacity. Mounting dimensions must fit. Do not use damaged accessories. Inspect accessories before each use. Wear appropriate PPE. Keep bystanders away.

4.2 Kickback and related warnings:

Kickback is a sudden reaction to a pinched or snagged rotating accessory. Maintain a firm grip with both hands and position your body to resist kickback forces. Use the auxiliary handle. Never place your hand near the rotating accessory. Do not position your body in the area where the tool might move if kickback occurs. Use special care with corners, sharp edges, and avoid bouncing. Do not use saw chain woodcarving blades or segmented diamond wheels with gaps greater than 10 mm.

4.3 Safety warnings specific for grinding and cutting-off operations:

Use only specified wheel types and guards. Mount depressed wheels below the guard lip. Ensure the guard is securely attached and positioned for maximum safety. Use wheels only for specified applications; do not grind with the side of cut-off wheels. Use undamaged wheel flanges. Do not use worn wheels from larger tools. Use the correct guard for dual-purpose wheels.

4.4 Additional safety warnings specific for cutting-off operations:

Do not “jam” the cut-off wheel or apply excessive pressure. Do not attempt excessively deep cuts. Do not position your body in line with and behind the rotating wheel. When the wheel binds or a cut is interrupted, switch off the tool and wait for it to stop. Never attempt to remove a wheel while it is in motion. Restart cutting operations carefully. Support large workpieces to minimize pinching and kickback. Use extra caution for pocket cuts. Do not attempt curved cutting.

4.5 Safety warnings specific for sanding operations:

Use proper sized sanding disc paper. Ensure it does not extend too far beyond the sanding pad.

4.6 Safety warnings specific for wire brushing operations:

Be aware that wire bristles can be thrown. Do not overstress the brush. Ensure wire wheels or brushes do not interfere with the guard.

4.7 Additional Safety Instructions

Always wear protective goggles and ear protectors. Always operate the power tool with two hands. Do not use the guard for cutting-off operations; use the parting safety guard. Use only specific types of guards for dual-purpose wheels. Protect wheels from grease or impact. Store and handle accessories with care. Never use cut-off wheels for roughing or deburring. Secure small workpieces. Ensure ventilation openings are not blocked in dusty conditions.

4.8 Safety instructions for battery packs:

Protect battery packs from water and moisture. Do not expose to naked flame. Do not use faulty or deformed packs. Do not open packs. Avoid touching or short-circuiting packs. If battery fluid leaks, rinse skin immediately with water and seek medical attention if necessary. Remove battery pack if the machine is defective. Follow laws for shipping Li-ion battery packs.

5. Overview

Refer to page 2 for an overview of the tool components, including:

6. Initial Operation

6.1 Attaching the additional handle

Always work with the additional handle attached. Attach it on the left or right of the machine and secure.

6.2 Install safety guard

Use only the provided guard for the respective accessory. Ensure the accessory is covered by at least 3.4 mm by the safety guard. Follow specific instructions for attaching the safety guard based on the model type (see page 2, illustrations C and D).

6.3 Battery pack

Charge the battery pack before use. Recharge if performance diminishes. Refer to the Metabo charger's operating instructions for charging details. Battery packs have a capacity and signal display; press the button to view the charge level. A flashing LED indicates the battery pack is almost flat.

6.4 Removing and inserting the battery pack

Hold the machine to prevent accidental switching on. Press the battery pack release button to remove. Slide the battery pack in until it engages to insert.

7. Attaching the grinding wheel

Before any modifications, remove the battery pack and ensure the machine is switched off and the spindle is at a standstill. Attach the safety guard for cut-off grinding operations if necessary.

7.1 Locking the spindle

Press the spindle locking button and turn the spindle by hand until it engages.

7.2 Placing the wheel in position

Fit the support flange on the spindle. Ensure it does not turn. Place the grinding wheel flat on the support flange. The metal flange on cut-off wheels must also lay flat. Note: The support flange is secured; use some force if necessary for removal.

7.3 Securing/releasing the (tool-free) clamping nut

Only tighten the tool-free clamping nut manually. The clip must always lie flat on the clamping nut. Do not use the tool-free clamping nut if the accessory has a clamping shank thicker than 6 mm; use the clamping nut with a 2-hole spanner instead. Lock the spindle, flip up the clip, fit the clamping nut, and tighten manually clockwise. Flip down the clip. To release, lock the spindle, flip up the clip, and unscrew anticlockwise.

7.4 Securing/releasing the clamping nut (depending on features)

For thin grinding wheels, the edge of the clamping nut faces upwards. For thick grinding wheels, the edge faces downwards. Lock the spindle and turn the clamping nut clockwise using the 2-hole spanner to secure. To release, lock the spindle and turn anticlockwise.

8. Use

8.1 Switching On and Off

Always guide the machine with both hands. Switch on, then guide the accessory towards the workpiece. Avoid drawing in additional dust and shavings. Keep the machine away from dust deposits when switching on/off. Only place the machine down when the motor has come to a standstill. Avoid accidental switching on; switch off when the battery pack is removed. In continuous operation, always hold the machine with both hands and stand in a safe position.

Machines with slide switch:

Switching on: Push the slide switch forward. For continuous activation, tilt downwards until it engages. Switching off: Press the rear end of the slide switch and release.

8.2 Working instructions

Grinding: Press down evenly and move back and forth. Position at an angle of 30°-40° for roughing.

Cutting-off: Always work against the run of the disc. Guide the machine evenly at a speed suitable for the material. Do not tilt, apply excessive force, or sway.

Sanding: Press down evenly and move back and forth.

Wire brushing: Press down evenly.

9. Cleaning

Remove the battery pack before any adjustments, conversions, or servicing. Periodically wipe the battery pack contact area and machine with a dry cloth.

10. Troubleshooting

If the machine shuts down due to excessive current (e.g., seizing or kickback), switch it off and then on again. Prevent the machine from seizing.

11. Accessories

Use only original Metabo or CAS battery packs and accessories. Ensure accessories fulfill requirements and specifications. Always use the suitable accessory and the prescribed guard for the application. Refer to page 4 for illustrations and accessory details, including grinding wheels, cut-off wheels, diamond cutting discs, wire brushes, cup brushes, flap discs, and backing pads. Various guards (Type A, B, C) are available for different operations. Other accessories like chargers, battery packs, and extraction hoods are also listed.

12. Repairs

Repairs must only be carried out by qualified electricians. Contact your local Metabo representative for repairs. Spare parts lists are available at www.metabo.com.

13. Environmental Protection

Sanding dust may contain hazardous materials; dispose of it at special collection points. Observe national regulations for environmentally compatible disposal. Do not dispose of battery packs with household waste; return them to your Metabo dealer. Do not throw battery packs into water.

14. Technical Specifications

Technical specifications are provided, subject to change. Details include maximum accessory diameter (Dmax), maximum permitted thickness of clamping shank (tmax1, tmax2, tmax3, tmax4), spindle thread (M), spindle length (L), no-load speed (no), and weight (m). Permitted ambient temperatures for operation, storage, and charging are specified. Direct current is used. Emission values for sound and vibration are provided, determined in accordance with EN 62841. Typical A-effective perceived sound levels are given.

15. Emission values

These values help assess and compare power tool emissions. Actual load may vary. Arrange protective measures for the user. Grinding of thin metal sheets can lead to higher sound emission; use damping mats. Increased sound emission must be considered for hearing protection selection.

16. Vibration emission value

Vibration emission values (ah,SG, ah,DS) and uncertainty (Kh,SG/DS) are provided. During operation, noise levels can exceed 80 dB(A). Wear ear protectors!
