D-Link DES-1018MPV2 User Guide
Building Networks for People
Product Introduction
The D-Link DES-1018MPV2 is an 18-port PoE unmanaged switch with 2 combo ports. Each PoE port (1 to 16) supports up to 30 watts and complies with IEEE 802.3af/at standard. The switch requires no configuration, which is suitable for SOHO and SMB users.
Front Panel
The front panel features 18 Ethernet ports. Ports 1 through 16 are 10/100 Mbps PoE-capable ports, arranged in two rows. Ports 17 and 18 are 10/100/1000 Mbps GbE/SFP combo uplink ports, typically located at the end. Various LEDs indicate device status, PoE status (OK, Fail, MAX), and link/activity/speed for different port types. Two H/W DIP switches allow configuration of Isolation and Extend modes.
# | Item | Description |
---|---|---|
1 | Ports 1~16 | 10/100 Mbps PoE-capable ports for connecting Ethernet devices and PoE-powered devices. |
2 | Port 17~18 | 10/100/1000 Mbps GbE/SFP combo uplink port for connecting to another switch using an Ethernet cable or installing a compatible SFP transceiver. |
Rear Panel
The rear panel includes a 'SWITCH GND' terminal for grounding the switch, an 'AC LINE' power input socket (100-240VAC, 50/60Hz), and a power cord retainer clip.

Hardware Installation
Grounding the Switch
This section describes how to connect the Switch to ground. You must complete this procedure before powering on your Switch.
Required Tools and Equipment
- Ground screws (included in the accessory kit): One M4 x 6 mm (metric) pan-head screw
- Ground cable (not included in the accessory kit): The grounding cable should be sized according to local and national installation requirements. Commercially available 6 AWG wire is recommended.
- A screwdriver (not included in the accessory kit)
Steps to Connect to Protective Ground:
- Verify if the system power is off.
- Use the ground cable to place the #8 terminal lug ring on top of the ground-screw opening.
- Insert the ground screw into the ground-screw opening.
- Using a screwdriver, tighten the ground screw to secure the ground cable to the Switch.
- Attach the terminal lug ring at the other end of the grounding cable to an appropriate grounding stud or bolt on the rack where the Switch is being installed.
- Verify if the connections at the ground connector on the Switch and the rack are securely attached.
Diagram Description: Illustrates connecting the switch to a protective ground. A grounding cable with a terminal lug is attached to the 'SWITCH GND' terminal on the rear of the switch. The other end of the cable is connected to a grounding stud or bolt on the equipment rack.
Attaching the Rubber Feet
Use the provided rubber feet. Position and apply rubber feet to the underside of the Switch.
Diagram Description: Shows the underside of the switch with four rubber feet being attached to the corners to provide stability and prevent sliding.
Mounting the Switch on a Rack
The DES-1018MPV2 can easily be mounted on a rack. Two mounting ears are provided for this purpose. Make sure that the front panel is exposed in order to view the LEDs.
Diagram Description: Depicts the process of mounting the switch in a standard 19-inch equipment rack. Mounting ears are attached to the sides of the switch, and these ears are then secured to the vertical rails of the rack using screws.
Provide for Adequate Ventilation
CAUTION
Do not place any devices on top of the Switch, or place the Switch on top of any device or object that will block the free flow of air through the ventilation slots on the sides, top, and bottom of the Switch's case. In addition, care should be taken not to place the Switch next to, on top of, or underneath any device that generates a significant amount of heat. For the Switch to perform at its optimal level, the Switch must have adequate ventilation to prevent the Switch from overheating and becoming damaged.
