Introduction to SOLAS
SOLAS, the Further Education and Training Authority, presents its Annual Report and Accounts for the period January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024. This report, published simultaneously in English and Irish, outlines the significant progress and transformations within Ireland's Further Education and Training (FET) sector.
Co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union, SOLAS plays a crucial role in funding, planning, and coordinating FET programs. The report highlights a year of strong growth, with a significant increase in learner engagement across various programs, including apprenticeships and upskilling initiatives.
Key Achievements in 2024
- Expanded FET Reach: Approximately 439,000 individuals engaged in FET activities, marking a substantial increase in participation.
- Apprenticeship Growth: A record 9,352 new apprentices were registered, with a 45% expansion in phase 2 craft apprenticeship capacity.
- Upskilling Initiatives: Nearly 27,000 employees benefited from the 'Skills to Advance' program, with over 83,000 learners participating since its inception.
- Digital Learning: The eCollege online learning platform saw a nearly 50% increase in enrolments, reaching almost 37,000 learners.
- Strategic Development: The report details progress on the FET Strategy 2020-2024 and the development of the next five-year strategy, focusing on accessibility, learner pathways, and industry relevance.
- Green Skills and Construction: Over 140,000 cards were issued for construction skills schemes, with a new national FET green-skills strategy launched.
